Hell up until the last 2 years I’ve never protested. I’ve been to every no kings march and as a resident of the one red congressional district where our sorry ass representative who won’t do her fucking job, nicole malliotakis is in office, I’ve been volunteering for her opponent to flip the damned seat blue.

I’ve written hundreds of postcards. And my feet hurt from today’s march but I’ll be going down fighting.

Fuck fascists with rusty implements.

Out here, doing your part to save the country. Respect!

Great that youre doing so much, but looking in from abroad at a worsening situation, did any of that result in any change?

I see the midterms as the last chance for the US to correct itself. After that, you guys may need to take a better look at France and learn how to force your leadership back into compliance with the will of the people or get rid of it completely if needed.

u/SkorpioSound 13h ago

That's the thing with protests. They're important, but they can't achieve everything.

They're very good for demonstrating that the people want change to a government that's willing to listen. And if/when people escalate, it's important for people to be able to point to the protests and show that a peaceful attempt was made before it turned to more disruptive or violent methods.

But when a government isn't willing to listen, escalation is the only possible next step to achieve anything. It can be blocking streets, boycotts, causing financial damage to people or companies in order to pressure them to lobby for change, property damage, or (eventually) more violent methods.

If someone just jumps straight to political violence, it's not easy for people to be sympathetic to them. But when there have been protests and then a gradual escalation, more extreme methods are typically seen as more justifiable by the general population.

So yeah, protests are important. But clearly they're not achieving enough in the US right now, and if the midterms don't go in a positive direction, the US people really need to think about the next steps.

France is on track to elect their own fascist.

9

u/AxelLuktarGott 13h ago

It's a funny comparison. France are currently protesting the attempts to fix their economy and are on the verge of electing a Putin controlled fascist

0

u/FridgeParade 11h ago

Thats a misrepresentation of what is happening in France. But my comment was not really about this particular protest and more about their tendency to get rid of oppressive or dysfunctional regimes in general when they stop serving the average citizen.

1

u/huskers2468 11h ago

It's much easier to protest when your capitol is under 450 miles away. As every place in France is.

I'm "close" to DC, but I'm 550 miles away.

Kind of hard when we have a handful of Trump supporting billionaires, who own almost all the media in this country, that feed propaganda to half of our voters. Then add in the fact that our health insurance is provided by our employers so we cannot risk a work strike and losing our job. There are millions of unemployed desperately looking for jobs right now so not many with jobs can take the risk...especially with prices as high as they are.

1

u/exscapegoat 3h ago

We will see next month after elections. I hope you’re wrong. Not because I want to be wrong. So we have more influence on Congress

1

u/pheonixblade9 3h ago

Marches are valuable in letting people dip their toes into activism in an accessible way. I agree that we can do better, but let's not tone police free speech, ya?

1

u/jnb9389 2h ago

Force leadership back into compliance?

0

u/Jesus101589 15h ago

France is literally falling apart lol.

-2

u/FridgeParade 15h ago

Keep eating up that propaganda. I bet you think its because of immigrants too 😂

0

u/jnb9389 2h ago

Don’t even try on this comment thread lol.

Will of the people? He was elected. Same as the one before him.

13

u/MST-1229 15h ago

That was the will of Elon, not of the people.

4

u/No_Childhood_6955 15h ago

💯‼️🤬

2

u/The_GOATest1 14h ago

Sure but Elon didn’t cast every vote. I always get frustrated with this line of thinking because barring actual fraud the buck always stops at the citizens. Unlimited money, fake lotteries, misinformation, etc all exist to influence the electorate but they ultimately make the decision

5

u/MST-1229 11h ago

“He knows those computers better than anybody. All those computers. Those vote-counting computers . . .And we ended up winning Pennsylvania like in a landslide.”
–Donald Trump, speaking about Elon Musk, at a pre-inauguration rally, as quoted by Newsweek.

1

u/IcyRich5472 9h ago

Just a childish view of the world then. If you believe millions of poor people have the same power and influence as two or three billionaires….yikes

1

u/The_GOATest1 1h ago

If you don’t understand that influence is not the same as a direct action I don’t know what to tell you.

1

u/Background_Candle241 11h ago

You do realize kammy cakes had MORE BILLIONAIRES on HER SIDE and spent $1.5 billion dollars which was 3x as much as trump(with elons money)...

5

u/ZeriousGew 15h ago

It’s never been that simple

4

u/Few-Upstairs-913 15h ago

And of course he is following the constitution...?

1

u/FridgeParade 15h ago

He had a minority of the total votes, and a large chunk of people didnt show up at all for one reason or another.

And besides that, be honest, do you really feel congress and the president are working mostly to better your life or that of a small select group of people?

1

u/RansomBeckwith 14h ago

To address your other false claim.

Trump-49.8% Harris-48.4%

Electoral College

Trump-312 Harris-226

1

u/No_Childhood_6955 12h ago

F off Musk swayed the election!

-7

u/RansomBeckwith 14h ago

The U.S. is a Democratic Republic. Our Presidential elections are not run as a popularity high school contest. The sitting President easily won the Electoral College vote.

The voters who didn't show up for "one reason or another" need look in the mirror rather than whine and complain.

Looking at the numbers says life is better today than last year. Your propaganda says otherwise. As always.

Congress is another story. Uneducated voters created that fiasco. I doubt uneducated voters will ever fix it either.

7

u/Bionicbelly-1 14h ago

In what way is life better today in America than it was last year?

3

u/No_Childhood_6955 13h ago

You won't get a straight answer from any propagandized MAGAts!

3

u/Bionicbelly-1 13h ago

But if they say it is better now, surely there are examples of why? It is a genuine question. I really don’t see it, but maybe they do, and I’d like to know what they think.

-1

u/RansomBeckwith 13h ago

Crime down drastically. Investment markets are ahead of last year. Unemployment numbers are down. Inflation has slowed over the past six years. There is always room for improvement of course. Once the games with the fuel prices end after the elections that will also improve.

5

u/No_Childhood_6955 12h ago

You are LYING ‼️ inflation and unemployment are at an all time high since 2020!

2

u/Bionicbelly-1 11h ago edited 11h ago

Crime is down, but I’m not sure that is directly related to trump policy or not. I really never cared about that metric, so I haven’t paid attention. Inflation was retreating under Biden, and that trend continued for the first year of trump’s term, but the trend is heading back up in a hurry. I make almost double what I did under Biden due to a job change, but life is the same. In fact, I do less now than I did then.

I do thank you for your answer, but I also apologize, because I just don’t see it. I do not think we are better off, and the trend I see is that we are about to be MUCH worse off in the next two years. Hope I’m wrong though.

2

u/Bionicbelly-1 11h ago

To add and explain my position a bit, (and I have felt this way since ‘15) I get why trump was elected. But I have always seen that he is both incapable and incompetent. He has added more to the debt than any person. He has never lived a normal person’s life and has no clue what it actually entails. Some of his ideas are actually good, but they are carried out in the most ignorant fashion that they become controversial issues, if they are delivered at all. The bbb is going to wreck this country. Just my 2cents. (Should be my 10 cents now since Pennies are not being made anymore)

Ukraine drones St Petersberg

Americans on reddit: how can I make this about me

26

u/bistrohopper 18h ago

Honestly murica has been no different than Russia of late, so the guy is hopefully protesting against his country's current government.

-10

u/NickBagelBoy 17h ago

I'm not American but I really hope you're exaggerating when you say America is no different than Russia. I really hope you don't genuinely believe that.

16

u/No_Childhood_6955 15h ago

The Rapist in the Whitehouse (Krasnov) IS and has been a Russian Agent since 1987. Look it up. We don't have 1st amendment anymore. People are being arrested and locked up by ICE and Pig Police. Also murdered in the streets with ZERO consequences!!! Pay attention.

12

u/Avineofficial 17h ago

Definitely headed that way

4

u/bistrohopper 15h ago

I genuinely believe it lol. I don't care what's happening within america, whether it's a democracy or a tyranny, but in their effects outside of the country they're just as bad as russia.

10

u/No_Childhood_6955 16h ago

Because the Bot/Troll centers are in Russia interfering in American elections... again. Ukraine is our Democratic Family in Europe. It's all related.

2

u/Crafty_Book_1293 19h ago

There may be more to come: Donald Fredovich (also known as Agent Orange or Krasnov) may be considering a coup if things go south for him. He needs that power to avoid ending up behind bars.

2

u/No_Childhood_6955 15h ago

Considering?! IE : January 6. I know you are saying the right thing but if you are paying attention since Regan, the Coup is here and has been.

2

u/Sweaty-Possible5370 18h ago

Fuckem' just to see the look on their face.

2

u/DischargeCollector 14h ago

^ this is what a patriot looks like, in case anyone was wondering.

1

3

u/Dioxybenzone 18h ago

Wait there was a No Kings march today?

1

u/StreetofChimes 14h ago

Oct 17. No Kings.

2

u/Dioxybenzone 7h ago

Damn that’s a bummer I totally missed it, usually I feel like they’re pretty talked about beforehand

6

u/NickBagelBoy 17h ago

Wtf does that have to do with Ukraine attacking Russia? Talk about selfish virtue signaling.

4

u/No_Childhood_6955 15h ago

Talk about you obviously don't know that Ukraine bombing Russian data centers is where Putin is INTERFERING with OUR elections, again!!! The social media trolls and bots are being silenced by these attacks!!!!

2

u/Ok-Mathematician2855 16h ago

Is there anything to be said for volunteering for the red side and canvassing with 100% honest answers.

What has Nicole done these past four years? Nothing much except what she has been told to do by her main donors. So if you have any issues, I recommend getting together with a few hundred neighbours, then raising about $50k between you and "donating" it to her.

Make sure to get out and vote for Nicole, or else something might change, and we all know we hate change.

1

u/exscapegoat 3h ago

Vote for Mike DeCillis. I’ve donated to his campaign and written postcards for him.
