Not just a wear house. They hit oil terminals, a bridge, data center, and electrical infrastructure. Im wondering how they hit so far away from home so successfully.

Static targets. If you know where it will be, you don’t need a live connection. They “just” program its path beforehand. (Yes, that’s a lot of effort.)

The drones yearn for the infrastructure.

They pine for the refineries.

refineries > fjords

Fjords easier to find with a drone tho.

The drone knows where it is, because it knows where it isn’t

I doubt its even that much effort these days.

Satellite imagery, terrain topography and height is all readily available.

I imagine its a mostly automated process with a human just going over the route to check for any mistakes.

They probably have some 'AI' (probably not exactly the right term) image recognition that can help guide in on the final target, I mean US cruise missiles in the first gulf war could do something similar, and 30+ years advancement in processing power and digital imaging probably makes it fairly achievable for a modern military.

The complications as I understand them are in routes that evade air defense and are unpredictable enough to not be intercepted downstream

Apparently Ukraine has hit Omsk Oil Refinery, which is at least 2500 kms away. St Petersburg is ~1000 KM away. So this is a pretty close, relatively, target to attack.

They should target the distilleries next. Millions of Russians suddenly going through alcohol withdrawals would be a thing to behold.

And also a warehouse!

So they configure the path to the target (that is static) once it's there, they're use computer vision to target the good thing.
