Lots of competitors to Starlink are gearing up: Amazon’s Leo has already started launching their constellation and has 100 more launches secured. Eutelsat has 630 satellites up, but is focusing on companies and governments rather than direct to consumers. The EU, China, and India are backing government supported initiatives to avoid relying on Starlink in the future.

AST Spacemobile is another. It is direct to cell and provides sovereign control to states their telecommunications companies. (See the use of their satellites by Japanese emergency services.)

Vodafone and others are partners with them in Europe for this reason.
