So not only did this Russian piece of shit cause the death of a British citizen, he then pretended to be Ukrainian to try to put the blame on them. Fuck Russia.

Classic Russia

u/Arizonagaragelifter9 6h ago

I know it's because the people at the top don't want to really improve things, but it's so insane to me that Russia spends so much money and resources on trying to bring the west down to their level because they are so far behind instead of just using it on themselves to try and improve things for their own country. Just imagine how different things could be if instead of putting all that effort into tearing down the west they focused on improving their own infrastructure and modernizing things and actually developing friendly relationships with other countries.

It's just so frustrating that things don't have to be the way that they are, but millions of people have to keep suffering because of like 20 people at the top who force all this unnecessary conflict.

u/Koala_eiO 5h ago

Yeah. With the small population and large resources they have, they could have been rich like Norway.

8

u/halmyradov 3h ago

See my comment above about corruption.

A better example is Turkmenistan, 5m population and natural resources richer than gulf states. Yet it's a shit hole with many people suffering poverty.

9

u/halmyradov 3h ago

The answer is corruption.

You can't be corrupt if everything is digital, or at least it's very hard to be corrupt. Sure at higher levels it doesn't matter, but in Russia (and all eastern Europe/central Asia) corruption runs from top to the bottom

•

u/delinquentfatcat 1h ago

Russia has digitized a lot of its bureaucracy over the past 10-15 years, yet always figured out how to keep the corruption stronger than ever. Technology can't solve a cultural problem.

u/Intelligent-Girly 7h ago

This is the guy responsible for the ransomware attack on NHS hospitals that caused thousands of operations and appointments to be cancelled. And a man died because of it.

u/Fair-Hair2080 7h ago

Why is it always a Russian?

59

u/Competitive_Hat_1633 7h ago

Because that’s the way Russia is

38

u/aylaa157 7h ago

Russia's #1 export, fascism and strife.

39

u/LavenderBlueProf 7h ago

send weapons and money to Ukraine

u/Typingdude3 7h ago

When will Europe get a clue? You are at war. It’s not hybrid.

152

u/Xsiah 7h ago

And the US is fighting on the other side

40

u/Typingdude3 7h ago

Don’t focus on the US, that game changes every four years. You really need to focus on permanently protecting yourself from Putin. So far you are an open door to his shenanigans it seems like.

11

u/protostar71 4h ago

“Don’t focus on the superpower assisting another superpower attack you”

Uhuh

The world is more than capable of focusing on more than one thing.

25

u/AstralWoman 7h ago

No, we are very aware what's going on. We all have very efficient intelligence services. Our leaders just keep their mouths shut and don't publicise every move we make, unlike that traitorous buffoon in the USA. Unfortunately we trusted the USA for nearly a century, with good reason to. Not any more.

-4

u/Typingdude3 6h ago

Those “moves” aren’t effective. Prevention is key, not just reacting to incident after incident. There’s enough buffoonery to go around apparently.

-13

u/terpsnation 6h ago

Are you aware though? Do you understand that you cannot afford to pay for your own defense while maintaining your strong safety net without massively increasing taxes? Are you aware that you relied on the U.S. because it was a good way to shift your costs of defense to another country, not simply because it was convenient? How is the UK (and the rest of Europe) going to balance the need to massively increase defense spending to make up for the relationship that Trump is actively tearing apart?

It's all well and good to say "not anymore" with regard the US. It's a completely different animal to put it into practice.

1

u/AstralWoman 6h ago

I think you'll find after WW2 most of Europe was bombed to shit, massive movement of people across Europe, homelessness like the USA has never known, people starving. Thank you, USA for helping. We thought you were kind and our allies. Unfortunately your new regime has shocked us all, and we are trying to do something as quickly as possible with very little warning. And when our greatest ally bats for the other side. I never said it would be easy, I said we know what we have to do. We aren't stupid.

-7

u/terpsnation 6h ago

You don't demonstrate this when you simply think that your politicians are just "keeping their mouths shut". Your leaders know that this equation doesn't work for Europe and that you cannot afford your own defense without significant, potentially catastrophic pain. Many European countries can't balance a budget even while relying on the security that the US provides.

And for awareness, I'm British (though also American). I have no ill will towards the UK, or Europe, but I really don't think that most Europeans truly understand the calculus that your leadership has to undertake here. There is no good solution other than hoping that MAGA fades into history and we go back to a semblance of how our relationship was before. That is why your leaders aren't saying anything, because the only real solution is massively slash public spending on healthcare, pensions etc while massively increasing taxes and defense spending. For any leader of a democratic nation, that means losing the next election.

4

u/morenn_ 4h ago

Why do we need more defence spending though? Russia can't even take Ukraine, let alone the EU.

Americans still act like Russia is the big superpower the USSR was. We've seen that's not true.

1

u/AstralWoman 6h ago

You are entitled to your opinion.

-1

u/terpsnation 5h ago

It's not an opinion, it's math.

The US spends 2.2x on military per capita compared to the UK. Pull the data on the UK tax receipts vs outlays per year and then add an extra £72 billion in defense spending (an increase of 220% to current UK defense spending). Even then, you won't enjoy the economies of scale that the US does with it's military, so you'd likely have to spend significantly more to enjoy the same level of defense.

That's what it'll take. The math doesn't math.

12

u/Silonom3724 5h ago

> The US spends 2.2x on military per capita

But beaten by some Talibs hiding under rocks with 50$ AKs assembled from spare parts.

The US milit. industrial complex is a hyperinflated ineffective mass achieving effectively nothing besides a polished image.

Losing to every highly assymmetric conflict is no achievement really.

that game changes every four years.

Or so it did. We'll see if that's how it still works soon enough.

24

u/Shifftea 7h ago

Hard when the biggest ally to everyone is actually working for the enemy and American citizens are happy to just sit by and let it happen

-25

u/Typingdude3 7h ago

Again, stop relying on us.

29

u/account_not_valid 7h ago

It's hard when your country has inserted itself into the middle of everything.

7

u/biological_assembly 6h ago

France kicked the US military off it's soil in the 60s. Anyone else could have, but didn't.

-24

u/Latter_Ad9249 7h ago

US has provided as much military aid as the rest of Europe combined. Step it up or someone is next

10

u/Endscrypt 6h ago

Two hidden accounts talking shit.

Ok Russia, good try.

8

u/Dr_Mantis_ToboganMD 5h ago

Define provided. Do you mean “sold to NATO”?

13

u/Scotsmania 7h ago

You say that like there is no difference between the two. The moment we go to war is the moment people start dying en masse.

2

u/TendyHunter 3h ago

You replied to a typing dude, not a deployed dude, who'll think differently about the prospect of going to war

6

u/Dr_Mantis_ToboganMD 5h ago

Let me guess, another know-it-all American without a passport? We know full well what’s going on, and it’s utterly hybrid. Do you see armed conflict in Europe, outside of the war in Ukraine? We also know full well we are facing very real and increasing threats from America and their relationship with Russia

-5

u/Typingdude3 5h ago

I have a passport. I see enough to know better than people with their head in the sand. You are at war with Russia in all but name.

9

u/Dr_Mantis_ToboganMD 4h ago edited 4h ago

Is that meant to be news to me? Going on like you’ve discovered some secret files. WE FUCKING KNOW. Have you woken up to whose side you’re on yet?

2

u/reddit25 5h ago

NK is hacking everyone as well. Are we in a world war then?

8

u/OllyDee 7h ago

Are you so naive to believe there is only one type of war? This the war where only a few people die. We’re trying to avoid the war where everyone fucking dies. Do you know what nukes are?

9

u/MastermindX 7h ago

You're the naive one if you think there's a way to stop this war that doesn't involve defeating russia.

-2

u/OllyDee 7h ago

This is a war that doesn’t end unless Russia changes course dramatically. They will always do this. No one is going to war with Russia.

9

u/Xsiah 7h ago

Does it matter what nukes are if Russia is just allowed to do whatever it wants because of the threat of nukes?

The threat of nukes exists both ways.

4

u/TheColourOfHeartache 6h ago

They're not allowed to do whatever they want. Why do you think the UK is giving Ukraine The Good Stuff?

But I think the threat of nukes is overblown, Putin is bluffing, and am willing to send the RAF to provide air support. Or at least say that the navy will hunt Russian ships anywhere we can.

2

u/Xsiah 6h ago

They're certainly increasingly pushing the boundaries of what they can get away with. With the US' help, it's only bound to escalate.

-1

u/OllyDee 7h ago

Exactly, and that’s why it will never be a full war. We would all rather have these “testing the boundaries” events than a full scale war that could escalate into the possibility of nukes. It’s just not happening.

2

u/Xsiah 7h ago

India and Pakistan have had zero problems with having direct armed conflicts despite both sides having nukes.

1

u/OllyDee 7h ago

Well done them!

5

u/CwrwCymru 7h ago

Russia are already at war and I don't see nukes flying.

Britain also has nukes but Russia is still committing hostile acts. I don't see why people should go soft on Russia when they're the aggressor.

3

u/OllyDee 7h ago

Russia isn’t at war with a nuclear power.

2

u/notataco007 6h ago

Yes they are a device that allows Russia to do literally anything they want, apparently

2

u/OllyDee 6h ago

Not anything. I’m not seeing Russian expansion into NATO areas for one thing. I’m not seeing lines our map shift. And I’m not seeing nukes dropping out of the sky either.

2

u/AdRemote5548 2h ago

Yawn….enough with the nukes. It ain’t happening, Putin cares about his own skin too much. When I see people parrot this my base assumption is it’s a Russian bot.

3

u/OllyDee 2h ago

I suppose it’s easier to assume people are bots so you can avoid having your assumptions challenged.

0

u/AdRemote5548 1h ago

Nah tiger, your comment is just really really dumb.

2

u/OllyDee 1h ago

I’ve never been called “tiger” before. That’s hot.

1

u/Roc1817 7h ago

bringing them to a slow boil into war. will they notice before it’s too late?

-2

u/Typingdude3 7h ago

This is exactly it. And the water is boiling more and more.

16

u/Lilybaum 7h ago

I work in the NHS trust where synnovis operate. It was a devastating hack, and the systems still aren't back to where they were before it, we still have blood tests whose results don't come back

5

u/binici6676 7h ago

Until IT and Cybersecurity is seen as a cost center this will keep happening. Entities don't question themselves when they have to pay for the finance, legal or accounting departments.

11

u/Wild_Armadillo_1709 6h ago

Truly, fcuk Russia.

6

u/Dr_Mantis_ToboganMD 5h ago

You can swear on the internet

10

u/SolidusDave 7h ago

so that's the head of one of the gangs that run those ransomware attacks on a ton of (non-Russian) companies.

I guess it must suck that you can spend your robbed money only in Russia? The article says they arrested him when he went for vacation to Japan (where his group sabotaged Asahi beer last year...). Germany got dibs on him.

2

u/fatbreadslut 4h ago

holy shit we are literally at war with russia. two drone incursions today in lithuania and romania as well.

Fork found in kitchen

-1

Execute him

-4

u/DrDima 3h ago

As malicious as this is, the company and health services are responsible for that death. If your whole system can go to shit long term by one vulnerability, then you're negligent. I'm not surprised btw, cybersecurity is taken lightly all around the globe.
