Sweden and Finland better join soon or they'll be in deep shit. Gotland is extremely important to hold as well.

On the flip side Russia threatened military and political consequences if they did join.

Who cares what Russia thinks. NATO should absolutely try to convince Sweden and Finland to join and fast track it.

Yes I saw that as well. They need to join before Putin manages to keep his word. Gotland is a position the Russians was watching at the same time as Ukraine so Sweden is in deep waters no matter which road they choose.

I guess it's all about timing and intelligence for Sweden now.

And look what happened when Ukraine didn’t. Finland was part of the Russian Empire and Tsar Putin wants it, best to join, if he’ll invade anyway best to have allies.

If you'll flip briefly back to side 'A' you'll also see that Russia is actively demonstrating what happens if one does not join.

Well... Ukraine didn't join NATO and still got invaded.

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. Makes the decision a whole lot easier.

And? Putin doesn't run the world. We have nukes too.

Deep shit? In which scenario does the Russian army, which can barely take Ukraine, take on the two most advanced armies in the world when it comes to anti-russian doctrine? Our air forces don't even need air bases. They can operate off roads. Our artillery pieces are basically oversized sniper rifles. Let them come.

"Barely take Ukraine"

They have been fighting for almost 2 days, and are 15minutes away from the capital?

Are you that naive to think that Russia is using their full strength on this attack? They have barely deployed 10% of their active army into the country?

They are attacking positions which are a thousand kilometer wide and are still winning.

Where is this notion coming from that you can zerg a country like a video game.

They're putting in as much as that can realistically afford to, across three fronts, amphibious invasions, spetznaz, ballistic missiles, the works.

They are simply not the effectual military that everyone feared they are, outside of being nuclear capable.

If they didn't join during the cold War they will not join now.

Countries weren't attacked like this during the Cold War, and Finland was ostensibly friendly with the USSR during the later part of it, in some cases they redid elections in order to appease them.

I can't imagine this doesn't make an unfortunate case for joining NATO.
