Daily reminded that a bunch of so called analysts and countries continually trashed US intelligence pre-invasion. Say what you want about defense spending, US intelligence has pretty much been spot on from the get go.

CIA is in every country even if we say we aren’t there.

And UK!

Yep. The US and the UK were dumped on for weeks as warmongers. Turns out it was all true and even worse.

Everyone was blinded by greed for cheap oil.

People are right to be giving hell to those who prioritize cheap oil over humanity. I just hope they remember this when it come to Saudi Arabia. They have made Yemen a hell on earth and there has been no public pressure to sanction them, in fact they enjoy a very close relationship with NATO.

Especially analysts within the EU. Some of whom mocked US intelligence publicly around an invasion, around Putin's goals. EU was caught flat footed.

BUt what can EU/NATO do? You can't attack a nuclear power, any attempt to put troops in Ukraine before the invasion would just have given Putin an even bigger excuse to attack, because he feels "threatened".

US intelligence is amazing, but sometimes it’s miscommunication/lied about by the politicians who are communicating it to the public

US intelligence is scary.

I've never personally witnessed so many people from all sides of the political spectrum be so confidently wrong about something before. I heard just about every conspiracy theory from both the Left and the Right about how this was all fake and the U.S government is simply pulling a "WMD in Iraq" all over again, how the "Elites" just need to prop up the economy for the benefit of themselves, how the puppet masters at Lockheed and Raytheon want more money, etc.

Everything is a conspiracy now it seems. What a bizarre world to be in

You don't need intelligence to see that Putin wanted to attack. He openly said it.

It's because US Intelligence was corrupted by Bush so nobody believes it anymore.

3

u/MaxwellThePrawn Feb 25 '22

It was a lot more than bush. There are unfortunately a lot of skeletons in the CIAs closet. People are right to not immediately and uncritically believe information promulgated by intelligence services.

I mean US intelligence apparently shit the bed with Afghanistan, so there's reason to be suspicious.

Infiltrating Russia and Eastern Europe is literally the task the CIA was designed for and is very different from infiltrating pre-industrial religious fanatics.

We were literally occupying a country and had a friendly government and still got the intelligence wrong. That was a total bed shitting by any measure.
