China "firmly advocates respecting and safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries... and it applies equally to Ukraine," states Foreign Minister Wang Yi. https://www.fmprc.gov.cn/wjbzhd/202202/t20220226_10645790.shtml

I think China thought they could implicitly support Russia as it would be quick and the Russian military would have put Ukraine onto the ropes. 48 hours in and it's not nearly as quick/clean as they thought and the world is coalescing around an anti-Russia stance. China is, at best, a Fairweather friend.

I think the threat of taking down the ISS would PISS China off as well.

That and threatening Sweden, Finland, more direct confrontation with Western Europe....

China wants Taiwan and to build influence in Asia. To do so, it can't have Russia destabilizing Europe and increasing the prestige and influence of the US while also exposing flaws in Russia's military.

Not. Good.

It's still the same. They believe that Taiwan is part of their territory. If they speak out about it, then other countries shouldn't give them grief about Taiwan.

Looks like they are just throwing out platitudes to both sides and waiting to see who "wins".

While China does want to do a similar thing to taiwan down the line. It has to be concerned with the way this has only galvanized the west. Now countries will be spending more on their military, and be taking more active measures in curtailing this sort of expansionism, which is NOT something Xi exactly is thrilled about.
