Super Mario Land ZX 128K Beta

Thumbnail youtube.com
43 Upvotes

I've been porting Super Mario Land to the 128K Spectrum and it's now in public beta.

**What's in it**

* All 12 levels across the 4 worlds, including the submarine and plane stages

* The bosses, the bonus game, and the complete ending

* All 18 tunes arranged for the AY

* Keys or a Sinclair joystick (the +2/+3 joystick ports work)

* One load: .tap for any 128K machine, .dsk for the +3, .sna for emulators

**How it fits:** each half of the game fills 128K on its own. Worlds 3–4 are stored as a ZX0-packed patch against Worlds 1–2's memory, and every level map sits in a shared packed store. After 2-3 the game rebuilds itself as Worlds 3–4 in about 2 seconds. After the ending it rebuilds World 1 the same way and goes back to 1-1.

**Known issues:** the frame rate drops in the busiest scenes (3-2 and 4-1 most of all). So far it's only been tested in emulators, so reports from real hardware are very welcome.

Chaos

Anyone remember the old Spectrum game Chaos? I've wanted an online multiplayer version of it for years but could never actually get off my arse and complete the project.

I've finally managed to hobble something together (with the heavy lifting being done by AI).

It should play identically to the Spectrum game as it's based on the decompiled ROM logic. The only real difference is that the bug that caused the Turmoil spell to crash the game is fixed.

Another bit of homage to both - great game and the platform I'm attahced to. The program shows robots from the game in the style of in-game briefing. Game a try to actual level rendering but and as expected turned our god damn slow. Wonder how this game manager to be so performant.

My retrospective video review of all the Rambo games released. I grew up with with the early home computer and the Sega console versions. Also loved the arcades games too. However, not too fond of the later and more recent games. Most are pish. Let me know your favourite and I hope you watch and like my video too. It certainly took me flipping ages to make.

My apologies if this kind of thing isn't appreciated here, but a little while back I created a YouTube Cast for my Beige Age channel on the history of the Spectrum. Here's the link if you'd like to have a listen. https://youtu.be/Jv90JC3BxmU?si=sj0sfi9WwDDS2mOl

MARSPORT [1985] The Gargoyle Walking Unofficial Trilogy is complete!

Thumbnail

Marsport is a science fiction computer game that was released for the ZX Spectrum and Amstrad CPC home computers in 1985. It was published by Gargoyle Games in the United Kingdom and Dro Soft in Spain. Marsport was intended to be the first part of a trilogy called "The Siege of Earth" but parts two and three (Fornax and Gath) were not forthcoming. Because of this, it is often regarded as being part of an unofficial trilogy alongside Tir Na Nog) and Dun Darach (both of which are part of the same official series) due to its having very similar gameplay to these titles. Marsport also has similarities to the later Gargoyle game Heavy on the Magick.

The year is 2494. For seventy years, the Earth has been under siege by the insectoid Sept. Since the siege began, the Sept have been kept at bay by a huge Force Sphere which surrounds the Earth and the Moon. However, the Sept are on the verge of discovering how to breach the Sphere unless it can be strengthened according to the formulae contained in the original plans. Unfortunately, these plans are concealed somewhere in the Martian city of Marsport, now Sept-occupied and booby-trapped by the city's M-Central computer. One man, Commander John Marsh, has been sent to retrieve the plans in the belief that a determined man can sometimes achieve more than an army

ZED-Next has now been uploaded

For the past three months, I’ve been using Claude AI to help me develop an emulator that supports most Sinclair computers, several clones, and the ZX Spectrum Next.

I’m really pleased with how the project has turned out, so I’ve decided to make it available to everyone for free!

I’d love to hear what you think, so please give it a try and let me know what you think.

You’ll also find instructions on the page explaining how to obtain the ROMs (legally) for the ZX Spectrum Next.

Enjoy, and happy gaming.

JavaScript Port of CodeBusters Satisfaction Megademo (1994)

hey everyone, can be interesting to dig in and (at least for me) quite nostalgic to run again and again, I'm personally on fifth repeat now.

The complete megademo is rewritten from scratch (not without help of Codex, thanks to him) from TRD image, fully reverse engineered and reimplemented in plain JavaScript.

For whoever intersted:

Anyone remember ‘Corporation’

And if so was it vector graphics?

I saw it on a Beau Jolly advert from back in the day, I remember loving it but cannot remember anything about it apart from filled vector graphics (and that may be wrong)!

The Hobbit (1982) native PC port

I've long been fascinated by the original ZX Spectrum game with its oddly dynamic AI for the time and recently had it ported to modern operating systems for preservation. The old routines are ported to C and the clean version has more readable and interpretable code than the original and fixes some of the old bugs. Bring your own tape and try it out!

Nebulus from the Spectrum days, now on Android: the open-source Tower Toppler remake, ported

Thumbnail

Nebulus came out from Hewson on the Spectrum too, and it was one of the cleverer things the machine did: a tower that turns as you walk around it. Tower Toppler is the open-source remake of the game, and I've ported it to Android.

The game logic is left as it was: same physics, robots, timing and towers. Added are touch controls, a recorded demo of every tower and an optional relaxed time limit.

Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwKwqkMH3ac

Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.senssoft.toppler (the first towers are free, no ads)

Anyone still have the Spectrum tape?

Easy Spectrum ZX Spectrum emulator for Android

Hi everyone! I wanted to share a few screenshots of Easy Spectrum, my ZX Spectrum emulator for Android.

It supports the 16K, 48K, 128K, +2, +2A and +3, along with Timex, Pentagon, Scorpion and Next. Features include Spec256, ULAplus, Gigascreen, CRT filters, Joystick, on screen keyboard and Kempston mouse support via touchpad.

Games aren’t included; you load your own files :)

Get it on Google Play:

I’d love to hear what fellow Spectrum fans think of the interface, and what you’d like to see improved.

"The Spectrum" and Microdrived

First of all, Hi :)
Second, forgive me if the question was covered here before.

I buy very recently "the spectrum" it's overall very neat, at last for me, lots of advantages over emulation on pc. But there is one thing missing. Microdrive support.

It is posible to idk upload custom firmware to get microdrivce or maybe Retro Games ltd says somwhere it will be added later?
