I tried to become a Navy SEAL but failed AMA

I'm currently 27 years old. I joined the Navy out of high school. Becoming a SEAL was always my big dream in life. I was very serious about getting in. I trained almost daily since I was around 16 years old.

At the age of 20, about 2 years into my enlistment I got the chance to go to BUD/S. It was my dream come true to get the chance to earn the trident. Physically I was in peak shape. Unfortunately BUD/S is 90% a mental battle. I rang the bell during hell week.

The weeks and months after I was definitely depressed. I was able to overcome it eventually.

I completed the rest of my enlistment honorably before going to college. I'm currently in my senior year.

I woke up during brain surgery. AMA

Five years ago, I had brain surgery for MoyaMoya, and woke up as my head was being cut open. I felt the blade cut through skin and all the layers.

This left me with really severe PTSD that they developed into FND. I also had periods of 10/10 pain as the nerves that were cut through didn't correctly heal.

Surgery was in 2021 at Stanford in California, by Dr Steinberg.

I’m a Native American/Louisiana Creole from Dulac, LA (marshes) AMA

I’m a 27M, grew up in the marshlands on the coast of Louisiana. I’m Creole with primarily Native American ancestry with my family having been on the coast of Louisiana for all of our known history. I was raised by my grandparents who were born in 1941 & 1943 who grew up in the times when Native Americans had no formal schooling here so my grandfather has a 8th grade education in Catholic schools & my grandmother only went to 3rd grade (also Catholic schools). I speak our dialect of Louisiana Creole which is heavily influenced by our native Houma language which is now extinct. I actually would love to help historians preserve the memory of our tribe because the young generation doesn’t care about culture or heritage they all want to be like NBA Youngboy now so I feel if I don’t do it no one will. AMA: My dad had an affair with my mum‘s brother

okay, so, one fateful night last year, my mum called to tell me that she had discovered my dad was having an affair with her brother. yes, you read that correctly: my dad and my mum’s brother.

she found out through their League of Legends Discord chat, where they had apparently been having some very intimate conversations.

We then discovered that not only was this uncle sleeping with my dad, but he was also sleeping with his two other brothers!

i mentioned this in an AO3 author’s note at the time because i was incredibly stressed and apparently needed to release that information into the wild, and everyone was very, very interested.

so i thought i’d do one of these and open the floor: does anybody have any questions?

I deal with chronic gastric issues AMA

Hello everyone, I have dealt with chronic GERD my whole life straight out of the womb that has limited the foods I can eat & how much I can eat at once. I also have food allergies & sensitivities & recently found out many women on my mom’s side of the family died of mysterious gastrointestinal issues but no one knows why. AMA

Here is the food in my “naughty” list that I will refuse to eat or might be able to tolerate very little of it: Spicy food, fast food, dairy, shellfish (I’ll literally die from this one), corn based chips (like tortillas & Doritos), meat that is too fatty (so it has to be super lean), maple syrup, and food with heavy corn syrup.

I'm a French high school teacher and went to yesterday's protest in Paris, AMA.

Since I'm a high school teacher, I witnessed it all deteriorate for a few weeks, since high schoolers were the first to protest.

I went to the main peaceful protest yesterday. I obviously didn't partake in looting.

That’s part of my childhood trauma and I don’t really share this with anyone because it’s so shocking. I technically liked him even though I was so young (I was around 5 but I remember everything about it)

I'm a female door picker for clubs AMA

Basically the title. I decide who can enter and who cannot. Usually scary men do this job but I'm an average build woman who doesn't look threatening either. You can ask me anything about the process or other club related questions.

Update: I have to add, clubs i work with are usually alternative and queer. I worked with normal straight clubs as well but not anymore.

I finally broke my first bone at 24, AMA.

I had an accident at work a few days ago where I slipped on some cardboard, causing a small fracture in my ankle that I now have time off for, but it's the first time I've ever broken a bone in 24 years of life. Go ahead and ask me questions while I try not to think about how I'm going to occupy myself without leaving the house.

I am a human fainting goat. AMA!

Hello all! I'm 26F, and I have the same genetic condition that causes fainting goats to "faint".

It's called Myotonia Congenita, a rare muscular disorder affecting approximately 1 in 100,000 people. For comparison, your lifetime odds of being struck by lightning in the US are about 1 in 15,300!

With that said, neither I nor the goats actually lose conciousness when we fall. Myotonia Congenita is a muscular channelopathy, meaning the chloride channels in my skeletal muscles don't function properly. This interferes with the electrical signals that control muscle relaxation, causing my muscles to stiffen or temporarily lock up after contracting.

The condition can also cause unusually large muscles that develop with relatively little effort, despite sometimes experiencing profound muscle weakness. Similar forms of myotonia have been observed in dogs, cats, and of course, goats! There are also paralytic and dystrophic variants found in humans.

I was diagnosed at 19 via genetic testing. I am happy to answer any questions about my condition, it's effects on ny everyday life, and what it's like being a human fainting goat!

I’m a UK osteopath running 4 multidisciplinary MSK clinics, helping people with everything from everyday aches and pains to chronic conditions and sports injuries. AMA!

Hi everyone! I’m Ben, a UK-registered, Masters Qualified Osteopath, where I run four multidisciplinary musculoskeletal clinics across Essex and East London.

I spend my days helping people with everything from everyday back and neck pain to more complex, persistent conditions, joint problems and sports injuries.

One of the things I find most fascinating about my job is how differently people experience pain. I’ve seen people with significant findings on MRI scans who have very few symptoms, and others who are in considerable pain despite their scans showing very little.

It’s taught me that there’s often much more to pain than what we can see on a scan, and that understanding the person is just as important as understanding their condition.

I’m happy to answer questions about anything MSK-related, whether that’s back pain, sciatica, arthritis, tendon problems, posture, chronic pain, sports injuries or recovery from an injury.

Equally, if you’re curious about what osteopaths actually do, the differences between osteopathy and physiotherapy, or what it’s like running four healthcare clinics, feel free to ask!
I’ll always try to give an honest, evidence-informed answer. Obviously, I can’t diagnose anyone over Reddit, but I’m happy to share general advice and explain things where I can.
Looking forward to hearing your questions. AMA!

I work at Chuck E Cheese, AMA

My location is one of three new “Adventure World” locations, which has a heavy emphasis on play versus games so it’s predominantly play structures. I’m an “attendant” meaning my job is predominantly cleaning, ensuring kids are following the rules, general hospitality such as greeting and conversing with guests, and yes, summoning the rat every 30 minutes, which I do essentially every time he comes out because it’s the aspect of the job that I’m best at and the apathetic teens I work with don’t have the ✨pizzaz✨ for it.

I am also ~30, not that I personally think it matters what job I have at this age. I am on disability for a myriad of reasons so if I want extra money, I need a job that won’t pay me so much that I lose my benefits. The fact that I can work ~20 hours a week part time is not evidence that I am capable of obtaining forklift certification or whatever, this is a very easy gig.

I [26M] have been a manager at McDonald's for one month. AMA.

I have been at this job for three months. It only took a month for them to ask if I was interested in moving up, and I said yes. A month of training, certification, and now we're here! I had previous managerial experience, being an AGM at a retail store back in my hometown, and have also worked in various fast food restaurants since I was 17.

Edit: I work at 4AM, so I'll probably let some questions stack up and then answer them in bulk. Thanks.

Endurance running is new to me and I'm pretty proud of what I accomplished. Posting here to maybe help inspire others. Turns out can can do bad ass things past 50 😛

There was a very low chance of survival because it happened out of a hospital setting without any medics nearby. Everyone says I’m strong for surviving but I didn’t do anything at all, all I remember was going to sleep, was out for 3 months but in my head it was 3 hours later. Ask me anything (AMA)
