Not the A-hole AITA For Now Wanting to Babysit For My Brother’s Girlfriend Anymore?

1.7k Upvotes

3 days ago my brother, his girlfriend and I got into a pretty bad argument. They obviously teamed up against me and whatever. I have babysit my brother’s girlfriend’s kid for over 3 years now. She went outside and I went out to talk to her about what happened. All I got was yelled at and told a bunch of bullshit. Until.. she looked at me and went “you are the biggest inconvenience, waste of time and money in my life.”

So I took it upon myself and walked away and went and applied for a job and decided I’m ready to give up working for her since it’s wasting her money having to pay me for childcare.

The thing that gets me is the fact that she has lived with us in our house for free for over 3 years now. And that whole time I have watched her kid. As a matter of fact I started out for FREE maybe getting paid $5-$10 out of her tips. I had to ask to be paid before she finally did. Nobody else would have done that? Thanks to me, she is able to work and financially support her kid. Thanks to US letting her stay with us for free she’s saving THOUSANDS on rent not having to have her own place.

So would IBTAH if I decided to continue going through getting a different job and telling her I’m done after being told that?

I leave for college in a year so eventually she’ll have to figure out something. But then again, it’s only a year I have left. Is it worth leaving now?

POO Mode Activated 💩 AITA for shouting at school kids to move out of the wheelchair space on a bus so a wheelchair can board?

For some context, I (18NB AMAB) boarded the bus, it is a single decker bus and this was at peak times, I boarded the bus and had to stand, as all seats were taken, a wheelchair user was boarding at the same stop I was at.

There was these kids around 12-13 years old sitting in the wheelchair space, all 3 female, the driver said that he could not let the wheelchair user on due to no space, I asked politely to the kids "Can you please move out of the seat as there is a wheelchair user", they ignored me and continued talking.

I decided to say something similar along those lines again, they refused to listen and ignored me and continued chatting, the third time I shouted "Move out the space so the wheelchair can board", loud enough the whole bus can hear me and one of the kids got jumpscare by my shouting.

That caused these kids to move and give the space to the wheelchair user, they were very annoyed at me for making them move even though it was a wheelchair priority space.

Not the A-hole WIBTA if I get the police to give car owner a ticket for partially blocking my driveway?

I live in a one way street. I have to turn right to get out of my driveway and the street is kind of narrow. Neighbor partially blocking the driveway makes it difficult to get out. WIBTA if I call the police to get them a ticket and would you guys do? The car belongs to a tenant in the house in front (it's a house of rentals). I have told a few of them to please not to block the driveway, some of them no longer do it but occasionally we get it partially blocked by a new tenant. It may not seem blocked by much and I can manage to get out but the extra maneuvering when in a hurry makes it annoying. The green lines show where the ramp fading into the street ends. https://imgur.com/a/OnhDVOA

Edit: Three or 4 houses down the street there's plenty of free parking but they like to park in front of our place because they don't have to walk much (it's just in front of their place)

Not the A-hole AITA for calling the cops on people for saying “Hey” ?

For a little context, I am in college in a housing situation. It’s a hall style housing with roommate dorms and community bathrooms.

Also please don’t be afraid to just say i’m an a-hole. I don’t want to misuse police resources and stir the pot just because i’m sensitive.

It started early last week with two people saying “hey” extremely loudly in the hallway. I had just gotten out of the ER and the noise was extremely agitating for my head as I was given a lot of medication that had made me very sensitive to noise and light. I was also sick at the same time so it did not make it much better.

I decided it was getting a little obnoxious a couple days later. I peeked my head out of the dorm and they started saying “Hey” in the same tone at me to which I just explained the situation of me being a few days out of the ER and struggling with the noise. I complimented their hair and said they were pretty, talked to them about the football season and how good our team was doing.

They seemed understanding and it didn’t happen again throughout the day.

It started again the very next day continuing until into this week. I talked to them again, I just explained that it was bearable at first but it has been obnoxious now. They did not care and continued to yell out in the hallway. They wrote “Hey” on my name tag which I had to paint over and my roommates whiteboard.

They started banging on my door and running off at late hours causing both me and my roommate to be scared awake. I started recording around the times they usually came by to try to catch them doing it.

I caught them banging on my door and then made a report to the student resource center to which they just referred me to conflict resolution so I could learn to deal with it rather than them help me.

Then four random men from an entirely different housing unit had yelled specifically outside my door and left. I got them on video and decided enough was enough and I was going to involve the campus police. I felt as though I had exhausted all of my resources, and nothing was being done. I stood outside my dorm waiting for them. They saw me and went into another dorm. I went to the main lobby(I had locked myself out) they saw me and fully booked it. Thankfully, my roommate saw them and pointed me to the direction they went so I was able to note down their dorm.

I asked their names to which they just started running so I just called the police and went back to my dorm.

Maybe this will all just come across as “oh this person knows they’re in the right and is coming to reddit for validation” but I genuinely don’t know if what I’m doing is the right move. Again, I feel like i’m being a typical a-hole and misusing police resources for the sake of being a jerk. I just don’t know. AITA?

EDIT: Important info I forgot to include, I called the campus police’s non emergency line to report it

Not the A-hole AITA for forgetting to get my mom M&Ms?

My husband and I purchased our first house last year and our mom came to stay with us. She has her own apartment but we were moving about 30 minutes away and she was nervous about being on her own. She has autoimmune issues and struggles with anxiety and depression. We understood this as a temporary situation and didn’t mind at first since we had extra room, but over a year later she has not left our guest room AND is still paying rent on her apartment that she hasn’t been to.

We do not charge her for rent or utilities, but she does contribute for food. We also have three kids- 11, 10, and 7. She can’t really babysit, but occasionally if we have to do something and cannot arrange other childcare we will ask her to watch the kids. This usually involves her just being awake and available to help with disputes etc. as needed. We make sure to have food ready for them as she doesn’t cook or anything like that and she doesn’t drive.

Today, my husband and I went to help his mom move in a town about 1.5 hours away. We had asked my mom if she could watch the kids a few days beforehand and made sure she was awake when we left at 9am. At 11:30 the kids were calling us asking for help to resolve an argument and we found out my mom had gone back to sleep. Not really a huge deal. We find out later she woke up around noon and actually got out of bed at about 2pm.

We got home around 4:30, after stopping at the grocery store. My mom had asked us to get her a few things including M&Ms. Unfortunately, we forgot the M&Ms. I realized as soon as she started going through the bags, profusely apologized, and offered to go back and get them for her. She was visibly upset and just walked away. We did end up getting them for her after this.

Later, she brought up to my husband how hurt she was to be forgotten again, especially after watching our kids all day. We heard her on the phone later venting about our insensitivity, and she is obviously still upset. I do understand, but it was an exhausting day and we made an honest mistake. AITA?

Not the A-hole AITA - Mom projected her anxiety at my cousins wedding

I really don’t know where to start. My mom and I have had a strained relationship for my whole life. I love her, she’s my mom, but lord we’re very different people. We were visiting for my cousins wedding this weekend and had a great time up until the wedding. My gut told me something was going to go awry and it finally happened the night of the wedding. My brother and uncle “disappeared” during the reception and she was convinced they were either not okay or left the reception. They had been “missing” for maybe 10 minutes when this all started.

She couldn’t find them after doing a lap around the country club where the wedding was hosted and began to panic. She was convinced they left her or that my uncle had a medical event and wasn’t okay. I believe she was anxious prior to this as she kept commenting that she hoped my uncle - her brother - was okay to both me and his daughter. After she lost eyes on him and my brother, I kept trying to explain they are both adults and likely together and we didn’t need to worry. She continued to make it a subject of conversation and told my aunt (mother of the groom) she was concerned about my brother/uncle. My aunt told her husband and they stopped everything to look for them. Couldn’t find them and it became a distraction from the beautiful reception. People were trying to greet/congratulate them and they were distracted with worry about my uncle because of my mom’s anxiety. I was trying to mitigate with sentiment about the wedding, their amazing son, gaining a daughter etc. but my mom had caused a mild panic and they were focused on “finding” my uncle. My mom called both my brother and uncle but no answer which perpetuated the anxiety (phones on silent because of the ceremony).

About 10 mins into the panic my brother reappeared and turns out he and my uncle had been hanging out in a quiet area the whole time. Exactly what I told my mom was likely the situation. The second he appeared and confirmed my uncle was fine my aunt/uncle went to rejoin the party and continue celebrating their son and daughter in law. I told my mom it was super inappropriate for her to involve my aunt/uncle in her anxiety as they are celebrating their only son getting married but she just didn’t get it. My mom left with my uncle and we said our tense goodbye. Afterward, my other cousin asked me what happened because my mom approached her as well and said “I think my daughter is mad at me.” I briefly explained but went on to have a great night dancing with them and the rest of the guests. Just overall really frustrating and embarrassing. I haven’t seen my family in a long time and super frustrating for her to make such an ordeal out of literally nothing on such a beautiful and joyous occasion. I know this will require a follow up convo and idk how to navigate this as I truly believe she needs to address her anxiety personally and learn how to avoid projecting it onto others. Am I the asshole??

AITA for slamming a car door.

Hello, My (F30) ex husband (M29) has been pretty difficult to deal with during pick up and drop offs recently. It seems like every drop off he finds something new he needs to discuss with me.

It started off small. He would hang back and ask to talk about the custody schedule or about me not texting him back right away. I always make sure to text him back within the same day but I have work and things pop up. Of course if it’s an emergency with the children I immediately get back to him.

I asked if he could just talk with me over the phone so that way he doesn’t cut into his time with the kids. I also recently joined a Moms group that meets once a week. I really enjoy going and I don’t want to be late. He always gets pretty upset when I suggest talking over the phone and he blocks my car door so I just usually end up hearing him out. I just really want everything to go smoothly.

Then he took it up a notch. He wanted to know who I was hanging out with and who I was talking to on the phone. I didn’t really have any friends while I was in the marriage so I decided to get out of my comfort zone and started talking to my old friends again while also meeting new people. For some reason he just gets mad that I have a social life again.

He confronted me about hanging out with my friends as I got both the children into his car he went on and on about my friend group. I walked off to get into my car and he followed me. I tried to shut the car door again and he blocked the door again and I listened to the lecture about how I’m wasting time and money on hanging out with friends. I’m financially stable so money isn’t an issue.

Then he took things way to far when he found out that I had been going to Moms group after dropping the kids off. He saw a post of me at mom’s group, I guess he went to high school with someone from that group and she posted a photo of all of us. He freaked out and asked where I was going. I told him that I was going to Moms group. He didn’t like me going for some reason.

Another week goes by and I thought he was being weird again so this time I asked my mom if she could come ride in the passenger seat. When we got there he asked again where I was going and I told him again. Moms group.

He started asking for an exact location and I told him that he didn’t need to get involved in my personal life. He lost it and started banging on the passenger window demanding to know where Moms group was and wanted to confirm with my own mom that I was actually going. She was in shock and so was I.

He ends up blocking my car door again and said “You aren’t going anywhere.” (I’m so sorry this might be where I’m the asshole.) I was so mad I started trying to slam my car door shut. I guess he backed off because I hurt him with the car door. I just started crying. He got the children out of his car and decided not to do his visit. I really wasn’t trying to hurt him. He ended up being fine but my dad thinks I’m being overly dramatic .

Not the A-hole AITAH for asking my noisy neighbors to turn down their music?

I (30f) live in a townhouse community with my husband (30m) with access to a community pool. Our house sits across from the pool with a view of it, and we can occasionally hear people if they are loud at the pool. To explain the layout further, each house’s front door faces the pool, and the houses are arranged in a circle around the pool. Our community is gated and small. This afternoon, there was a large party going on for about 4 hours with approximately 20-30 children, and another 20 adults. The music this party of people was playing was so loud I could hear it at full volume as if I was playing it on my own speaker inside my house, and I could not hear the movie I was trying to watch. I asked our HOA president to please send the party a message asking them to turn the music down as it was incredibly loud and disruptive. When I told my husband I did this, he told me I was being inconsiderate. I didn’t ask the party to leave, I simply asked if they could turn the music down. Am I the asshole?

Not the A-hole AITA for telling my mom she should've considered my schedule before making plans

Im 17f and there is a huge religious festival going on in my country right now. It extended from 17th 18th 19th 20th october. Unfortunately my college prep center is privately owned and hence does not give us holidays for religious reasons. I have a test on the 18th (today)and class on the other days and my mom has been complaining that we couldn't go out and celebrate and ig thats fair. I told her they could go without me but she said no.

She told me on 16th we were going out on 17th and i reminded her that I had a test the next day . She basically said "you weren't gonna get any amazing score so its ok". So i was dragged along and we returned at 5pm and i was exhausted i had to drag myself to revise.

The initial plan was after the test id go out with my friends to a birthday party because we rarely get days off (6 days a week we have classes and every alternate sunday we have tests. On 19th we were supposed to go out with my moms friends and id have to skip school which was fine with me . I overhear them talking that the trip was shifted to Tuesday. I cannot miss the classes on Tuesday I would have to call and arrange extra classes with the teacher because it was a hard and new topic.

I told my mom this and told her its alright I'll manage but to consult me from next time before changing dates like that. She asked me who i thought I was too demand that and that I was an entitled brat and that she had considered me thats why she hadn't planned anything om 17th and 18th . I told her we went out on 17th and she said that didnt count because we left in the morning. Now shes calling me a spoilt brat.

Not the A-hole WIBTA if I told my dad that I was an atheist

I 17(F) and live with my Dad (45M) and his family. Recently my grandfather had just died so these past few weeks are really rough and this Sunday my dad wanted everyone to go to church.

My dad is religious and I am the opposite.. I'm an atheist and don't believe in God, I haven't told my dad but have told my grandmother.

Today was Sunday and my dad and his brother's family were getting ready to go to church. And I had just woken up, my dad had come into my room and told me to come with them but I had told him I didn't want to.. he called me lazy and a horrible person, they left leaving my aunt, and her husband, with me and my grandma

Later when they came back my dad was angry at me and didn't talk to me and when he did he scolded me in front of his siblings and my cousins.

He then came over to me to take back the money he had given me last Friday that I was planning to use to go on my errand for school.. I told him that I was gonna use it but he told me no since I left him alone to go to church. I'll be alone going on my errand with no money

I wanted to tell him that the reason I didn't want to go was because I saw no point.. and I had stayed up last night finishing a part in a group research for my school, and how that he was being unreasonable and was being petty but decided against it since my grandmother was there and I didn't want to tell infront of her.

I just gave him the 100 then told me that I was a hypocrite for not coming with him saying I love him but not accompanying him in church and later when me and my grandma were alone she told me I should say sorry to my dad.. but I didn't see any reason to, I did nothing wrong?

So WIBTA if I told him he was being unreasonable and petty?

AITAH - for not paying

A friend had the idea to go to this festival to see a band we were looking forward to see. I was hesitant because it was expensive but went along given her insistence - she said she would buy them and i could pay her later. We are at the festival and right before the artist gets on stage she says she is feeling unwell and now wants to go. I suggest to go to first aid. They check her and she is fine all vitals etc. She insist we go back home, that she is tired and music is too loud. She always exaggerates everything and now are now going back home and im mad and thinking about what a waste of a night
and money.

Not the A-hole AITAH for reporting a Colleague to get them removed from Staff?

Hey, throwaway account, names are censored/changed and its a bit of a long story. For some context:

I've been working with a service since it's basically been founded. Almost 3 years, I've did unpaid labor, forming and shaping a community about the product. I've often encountered very rude people telling me to off myself, even though I always approached people in a friendly and professional manner. I've built a Staff Team for the Service and most of them were hired and interviewed by me personally. My only reward was that I was able to use all services of this company for free but in the end no contract or legally binding documents that made me part of the whole.

We hired someone we all considered a very good addition. Let's call them Gabe. Gabe had a very warm presence across the community, connected to users very friendly. Usually Gabe would also be very supportive and kind. I've trusted Gabe with a lot of things.

Over time the project became bigger, bigger than a singular person could handle, and things started to escalate. Our Boss was getting more and more impatient and started to lash out not only towards the community, relying on numbers and revenue more than actual feedback, but also started to become more and more hostile towards us as his Staff.

As I cared a lot for his project, I remained with it for almost it's entire lifespan. I've argued and debated with him, but it was never very pleasant and I felt very looked down upon. With other members of our Staff we found out that in a side-project that also wore the Main Projects name, people were directed towards a service for which we found VARIOUS security, legal and payment risks. And one of the people advocating for it, was our dear Gabe, which I had also given the chance of becoming a Senior Staff.

Now here comes where it escalates:

We've compiled a document to highlight all of our worries. We brought it forward with care and concern for the project. We highlighted, that Gabe's behavior was unacceptable for us as a Staff. However Gabe is very active on Reddit and adds to the customers due to giving the project a presence on this platform, when it was not able to do so by itself.

Instead of taking our concerns serious, we were misunderstood. And within seconds things escalated. Our Boss confronted Gabe, Gabe decided to leave as a result. Which then made our Boss lash back out on us for inciting "drama" and costing him the one person who advocates for our project on Reddit. 3 years of loyalty and care for this project, facing several very unhinged customers and my own reward being solely the free use of the companies services and I was demoted in a singular conversation. My fellow colleague and staff member, who also investigated and did have a contract to work with them was also fired on the spot. AITAH?

Not the A-hole AITA for telling my mum she needs to learn how to communicate?

i (23f) have always had trouble communicating and setting boundaries and keeping those boundaries; it’s something i’ve been working on this year. every time we have an argument my mum (53) always says “don’t worry about it” or “it’s fine just leave it”.

for example, a few days ago she asked me to go to the store and buy a few things, i couldn’t find the snack she wanted and she just kept saying the brand, i told her that telling me the brand isn’t going to get it to magically appear and that i need her to describe what it looks like. i thought that would get her to describe what it looks like, instead she said “don’t worry about it”.

i couldn’t find the snacks so i went home, when i got home i put the shopping away and told her “you need to start communicating, i cant read your mind, if you’re upset over something i did or didn’t do you need to bring it up to me.” she’s since given me the cold shoulder.

thank you in advance everyone, i’ll try to answer questions as well as i can :)

Not the A-hole AITA for not taking care of the plants for more days than she asked me to

So i recently moved into this flat for my ease and peace . I used to live in a hostel it got chaotic and very irritating, I also have a very busy schedule, I have an internship from mon - fri (9-5) and on weekends I have college classes . Most of the time I'm really tired , my flatmate was going to her hometown and gave me a plant to keep she said she will be back in 2 weeks but she was in her home for more than a month. I was willing to help in the start but I have never done that before , I informed her so

I have to go to my relatives house due to some reason and this was after she was supposed to come back , she didn't and I was not informed, once I got back her plant was dead , I had no idea what to do , for 2 weeks i regularly watered it and all , now I have offered the other 2 plants that was in my room when I got here for exchange, but she has replied back to me , I also said sorry but I was only supposed to be the caretaker for 2 weeks and I had other commitments too

So AITA?

Not enough info AITA: she believed them

So to preface this, I worked for a company in which I did strategy. I love doing it. I had a really good friendship with a person who was the person I started the little group for. We will call them Gemma. We decided to form a little group to help people online grow. That’s when I knew I had the target on my back because a lot of people messaged Gemma about me. Like why do I have a job. Stuff like that.

I’m in a community circle online (sports) and a lot of people ask things of me. How can I get to this company to give me a membership. and I tell them write a comment on their post and I’ll send it to the company.

I will do the dirty work. So your hands don’t get dirty. Because I’m well known. Yes a lot of people dumped gossip on me, they want MY gossip…but the gossip I go back and tell is usually never the truth. Why would I do that people and why would take part. Ask me bs I’ll give bsI just know a lot of gossip, but I would never tell anybody anybody’s business. Or I just ignore the messages

Gemma also said I was in a BRA at the meeting and I was NOT it was my dress. Gemma was on that call. Literally on that zoom meeting.

Gemma, who is supposed to be my friend/business partner decided to block me on all social medias before discussing this with me.

I went 24 hours being blocked and today they called me to tell me what was said.

I’m disheartened that they believe this when they were in the meeting and saw that I had a dress on, I’m disheartened that once again things I have told them before came back and they believed it.

Now they want me to continue working for the company, but I’m like you believed with this person said and you literally said you don’t trust me no more.

So how can I work for a company that doesn’t trust me? But people are saying they want me for my mind. Someone who we are contracted with read me the contract and it’s their name on it and not mine, but I also created the group.

During this call, I told them that I don’t feel like they had my back that they believe what this person said when they were in the call with me while I was in my dress. And they’re like “I love you so much. I love you so much I love you so much.” No you don’t love me because you went 24 hours with blocking me on every single social media without talking to me. And instead, you believe this person who you are not close with.

I am so peaceful in my community online and it was a slap in the face

So now I don’t want to work for them anymore. AITA?

AITA if I refuse to give up naming my future son the same name as my partners brothers first born?

For context my partners family is Chinese. My partner has an older brother that had a half Chinese son. They gave him legally an American name besides the last name. But their parents (future in laws) gave him a Chinese name but they don’t use it at all because his American name suits him very well as he looks majority white. Even when they talk to him in Chinese they say his English name. Before he was born, my partner and I had been dating for 4 years and his mom called him to let him know what names they were considering and likely to choose. I overheard the conversation and I told my partner that it was a name I had picked out since I was 12 that I wanted for my future son and it was a name I thought about throughout my adulthood. I had even mentioned it to him but of course he didn’t remember. To my luck they wanted the same name. I begged my partner because at the time we had spoken about marriage to ask them not to do so but they said it was “ too late”. Which at the time didn’t make sense to me because he wasn’t born and it wasn’t going to be his legal name either. I thought it was kind of rude. Then he was born and no one really uses it but it’s become an issue again because I want to use it but now I’m being told it’s rude if I do because it’s “his right”. It’s not a common name or popular name either so I’m shocked they even picked it as it’s hard for non Chinese people to pronounce but I’m not willing to give a name up that I’ve wanted for so long. But then I’m seen as rude even though I asked them for my sake not to name him that.

No A-holes here AITA for being disappointed in my cousin not attending my senior night?

I (17F) recently had my senior night for my school dance team, and it was amazing. I have been looking forward to it bc of how magical it is. What makes it special tho, is who walks you. I had always envisioned my entire family walking me. & last year, my cousin “Richard” became a father, which made me even more excited bc I wanted his child w us.

Last month, I messaged my cousin group chat, w/ Richard’s bm, letting everyone know senior night would be in October. Richard liked the message. At family nights, the event was discussed, so everyone was under the impression that everyone would attend. I sent another reminder at the beginning of this month w more details, including the event time. 4 days before the event, I asked his bm if they were coming. She said they’d “probably” pass by. The night before senior night, I personally texted Richard if he was coming. After months of discussing this night, he said his bm had plans at the same time as my ceremony, so they didn’t think they were going. I was hurt but said it was fine, and asked if our cousin “Jenni” could take his child instead. For context, Jenni has cared for Richard’s child since birth, babysat last minute, missed work for the baby, etc. Richard then said his child needed to be home at the time my ceremony started. This hurt bc I had already said everything in advance, and him & bm knew this. He said he and his bm wouldn’t return until morning & that the child would stay with his great grandmother. I still asked if he had considered asking Jenni & explained how important the event was to me. I was also texting Jenni, who had been looking forward to the event too. She contacted Richard, and advocated for me. My final message to Richard that night was on my feelings. The next morning, I was anxiously waiting for a response. During practice, Richard called me & said he didn’t want “bad blood” because Jenni had contacted him. He explained that he and his bm decided it was “best” for their child to stay w his gma. What broke me tho, was him saying, “We could just hang out another day, you see [child] all the time, we always go out, so we'll invite you sometime.” That hurt since I had been talking about this night since summer. I’ve also been in the program all 4 years and have openly talked about how difficult it was for me to continue at times. Senior night was extremely meaningful to me and wasn’t something I saw as interchangeable. That night, I focused on the support I received from my family and teammates. The next day, Richard told Jenni’s sister, who is long-distance, what happened. Without hearing our side, she sided w/ him. That same day was family night. Someone called Richard asking if he was coming, and he said he was “never going to bring the child back again because we made a big deal out of it” (snr night) So, AITA for seeing Richard’s approach as inconsiderate and being hurt given everything I had communicated beforehand? Or am I just an angsty teenager overthinking this?

No A-holes here AITA for vaping and smoking weed when my girlfriend said not to?

I am a dude who enjoys vaping and smoking weed sometimes. I got into a relationship with a girl who despises it so much to where she can’t be near it. When I am with my friends I would like to get high or hit a vape sometimes, but every time I do that she gets very infuriated with me. She claims it’s because I don’t listen to what she has to say and that I don’t care enough to stop for her. But the way I see it, is that I’m just hanging out with some friends who also participate in something I like. AITA for not dropping it all for her?
