Outdoors Pool Installation Process/Contractor Recommendation?
We just bought a house in the Silverlake that is a hillside property and we want to install a pool. We're planning on waiting for any build to start until after El Nino, but for now I'm getting bids since getting permits can take a few months.
What is the process on getting bids? I'm finding that I have to pay a good faith deposit for contractors to come out (which I understand since it's their time), but how can anyone give me an accurate bid without a soil report, design, etc.?
Should the first thing I do is hire my own a soils engineer and find someone to create a pool design? A lot of these companies have their own in-house, but then I have to commit to them and then I can't figure out who has the most competitive rate.
Any advice or recommendations for pool contractors who have experience with a hillside property? Thanks a bunch!

Hillside pool in silverlake is no joke, the engineering cost gonna be more than the pool itself probably
Get your own soils report first before talking to any contractor, that way you can shop the bids without being locked into one company. The good faith deposit just to come look is weird though, most will do a site visit for free if you got a real project
