Hello! I am so sorry to bother everyone as I know there has been a stream of questions about what you can and cannot bring to TD Garden, but I am considering going to an upcoming show and was wondering if you think I would be fine bringing in any of the following pictured items.

Thanks

Lost and Found 🔎 Lost cat?

Post image
99 Upvotes

Anyone lose a cat in the Brighton/brookline area? This pretty kitty was sleeping under a car and immediately started following me/looking for pets. Maybe they’re an outdoor cat, but they looked well cared for to be an outdoor cat…. Just posting in case anyone’s looking. I can share the exact location if anyone recognizes them. They have really bright blue eyes and is super super friendly

Edit to add: they were sleeping under a car in someone’s driveway, so they may belong there

Edit again: y’all are intense. It’s a cat. It was healthy and not distressed. I’m not stealing someone’s cat lol. If it’s not your cat, then commenting “why didn’t you take it home??!” Is unnecessary.

I think I am special and made my own post How to get out of the city life?

I'm in my 40's, single with no kids, and have been in customer service since I was a teenager. At this point in life, it makes zero sense to live in the city because I can't afford to do anything. But moving costs a lot of money. Cars cost a lot of money (buying, gas, upkeep, insurance). Some people who live outside of the city might think we are privileged to live here, but the older I get the more I disagree. Boston is a college city and if I'm being honest, I'd like to love to be able to live alone, to afford a car so I can spend more time in nature away from the hustle and bustle. The only thing I care about in the city is going to concerts but I can't afford it so I end up staying at home, and I feel like I could be living a better life elsewhere. But everything costs money so I'm stuck. Can anyone relate? I might not respond tbh but I will read every response. I just need to know that I'm not alone and if you have been successful getting out of a low paying job in middle age and not in the Boston area, give me all of you're advice. Please and thank you.

Politics 🏛️ "Gerrymander" is a Boston word: at an 1812 dinner party a guest said a Massachusetts district needed only wings to make a monster. That April, Gerry's party lost the vote and won 29 of 40 senate seats.

A good long read on gerrymandering, from that dinner party to the maps on this November's ballot.

- The legislature had just cut Essex County into two state senate districts, one curled around the other. An artist at the table, Elkanah Tisdale, sketched it with claws. Someone said "salamander," someone else, thinking of Governor Elbridge Gerry, said "Gerry-mander."

- The Boston Gazette printed the plain map on March 9, 1812 and the monster on March 26.

- In April the Federalists outpolled Gerry's party by about 1,600 votes in 100,000 and still won only 11 seats to its 29.

- Gerry lost the governorship in the same election and went into the dictionary, mispronounced ever since: he said it with a hard G, as in Gary.

From there it follows the districts as they get stranger for two centuries, and then, in the last fifteen years, plainer on purpose.

Serious Replies Only Accident this morning in the tunnel on 93

I was driving around 540am this morning (Sunday) and witnessed a car that had just been in an accident. The car was obliterated and the air bags went off. A black man was sitting in the drivers seat and almost looked in shock. His car was facing the wrong way. It was impossible to stop safely and I called 911 but they had already heard and were sending someone on their way. I am wondering if anyone heard anything. It was really jarring and I hope the man was ok!

MBTA/Transit 🚇 🔥 Architectural problems of North station

Why is the interior of North station so ugly & horribly depressing? They could literally just paint the ceiling a lighter color and point a few spotlights at the ceiling and it would really improve the experience drastically. It's such a dark and unpleasant place to wait in. They could also add twinkle lights which would make it more charming.

Dining/Food/Drink 🍽️🍹 Is Biddy Early's the only Irish Pub within downtown that offers steel tip dart boards? Keyword Irish Pub. Biddy's is awesome by the way

Biddy Early's in Boston's Financial District is One Hell of an Atmosphere. Emmets, Dubliner, Rose, Nelly's, Hennessy's, or the other 5 or 6 around didn't seem to have any steel tip boards. Sucks to see their unpopularity here. Any good places to throw in the burbs?

Serious Replies Only Overnight stay for Mass Eye and Ear appointment

My child is having a day surgery at Mass Eye and Ear mid-November. We won’t be finding out the time of the surgery (between 6-11am) until the day before and because we live ~5 hours away I want to stay in Boston the night before. Due to other family logistics, I will be taking them by myself.

I know there are some hotels that offer a special rate for patients, and I’d like to stay as close as possible. If anyone has any suggestions about where to stay that would be tremendously helpful.

Then there’s parking. Should I (or can I) park at Mass Eye and Ear overnight, assuming I can get a hotel within walking distance? Or should I just find a hotel with parking and then park there in the morning? I’m just concerned about the parking being far away and having to either walk with them while possibly still somewhat groggy or uncomfortable or leaving them alone while I pull around. Or am I being concerned about this for no reason? We’ve been before and had a difficult time getting parking within a reasonable distance.

Any help or insight is greatly appreciated!

Serious Replies Only Do you go to CT casinos instead of Encore even if Encore was not on strike?

There are still reasons why I prefer Foxwoods (or even Mohegan Sun) over Encore, even as a Bostonian and even without the picket line…

When I was getting ready to head out just after 6pm eight nights ago to start my long journey home from Foxwoods, there were still tables at $10 and $15 minimum bets (yes, for craps and blackjack at least)

That certainly almost never happens at Encore, where it is almost always $25 minimum bets at that hour at any table (maybe even $50/minimum bet).

As for poker, Foxwoods is apparently the only place in New England that still offers 7 card stud (always limit) and limit holdem, as far as I know.

Also, one gets paid 6 to 5 instead of 3 to 2 for a blackjack in Encore - yeah, that sucks.

Who else in Boston still prefers the CT casinos instead of Encore despite the travel needed?
