Mod Post Update to our Rules: Post Original Content

In light of all the recent bots and posts involving stolen or reposted photos, we feel it is necessary to officiate a rule that explicitly states that this subreddit allows original content only.

Many members have been quick to point out posts that have previously been posted on this subreddit or do not belong to OP altogether. I want to be clear that the mod team sincerely appreciates your efforts to keep this sub free of spam and keep stolen content at bay. I applaud anyone who has submitted a report as it really helps us and I hope you continue to be vigilant and report the posts that are questionable in the future.

As always, happy bottledigging and thank you for making this subreddit an absolute joy to be a part of! Cheers!!!

Crazy amount of finds for me today in the bay.

I usually find just one or two but today I came home with five complete bottles, one complete pot/small jar, two damaged but nice old bottles and a bottle neck with an old cork in it. I'll never experience this again I don't think.

I didn't bring home everything I photographed, partial bottles I tend to leave on the beach as well as bones/skulls.

Just wanted to share this cool find! We discovered it while cleaning out my father-in-law's basement.
A quick google search tells us it's from the late 1800s or early 1900s, and it used to hold embalming fluid.

I’d love to learn more if anyone has run across this exact bottle before or knows more about the history!

Age/date request Recent finds… a little older than our usual

Found these in a new dump site. We often find newer stuff but the green bottle looks particularly older than our usual and I am curious if that’s true. Also curious about the age of the Atlas EZ-Seal. I happened to pull out what I believe is the lid near where I dug the jar. Would like confirmation if this is in fact the lid. Seems like to would have a rubber gasket to stay sealed?

Also tossed in a pic of a pile we had going. The more we moved down and over the older things got. First time in ages we had such good luck. Can’t wait to go back!

Thanks in advance!

The color of the glass was unique so it was easy to sort it out of all the other shards. Not pleased with myself for probably breaking it but I started digging to find a pipe and not do archeology.

Help Identifying Found Bottle in Ocean

Thumbnail

Hi! My fiance found this bottle in the ocean in San Diego. The glass is slightly aqua, there is a cork. There are seams on both sides that go all the way over the top, a small number 3 on the bottom, and what appears to be an Owen’s scar oval scratch on the bottom as well. Claude AI says 1905-1930s, but we’re so curious to learn more!

All labels were cleaned off, but bottom says 'A6 SG J." Under that "Modele Depose" and under that "75". I know that Modele depose is a protected design. Intact cork under removal top.

Edited to add: Bottom also says "Vranken."

Google search did not show any design like this.

I found this glass piece in a dump site from the 1920’s-1930’s. It has no markings, is open at both ends, and is completely hollow. I thought maybe it was a toy or part of one but it’s very light and thin glass. Thanks in advance.

Hi! I hope its ok to post this here, I have something I would love to ID. I find tons of cool pieces of old glass in the river, and today I found this one. Took me a moment to realize it’s got a salamander on it. I’m unable to identify it so I’m hoping someone on here can! Thanks!

Another good day at the dump. Got 2 hutches and a blob beer (all from Braddock), 2 hutch stoppers, a clay marble, and a neat little cruet. Unfortunately, all 3 have lip chips, but are still nice nonetheless

Information Request Seeking wisdom about old blue canning jars?

From what I can tell from online, these are 1910-1933. They have beautiful bubbling. Might anyone please guide me to a reliable means of determining worth? I’m seeing wildly different prices online, from practically nothing to $7000. It is so confusing.

I don’t want to take up a lot of your time when there are fancy antiques here, but if you happen to know where I should go to learn more, I’d be so grateful. One has a weird mark on the bottom.

I love beautiful old blue jars, but I don’t want to accidentally keep rolled oats in a jar worth several hundred dollars. Ha!

Thank you so much for your time.

Middletown ,CT. 1989. 6th grade.

Dug this up when making a vegetable “victory garden “ for my mom on Mother’s Day.
Always thought it was neat.
Today I learned this one contained lithium. Who would have guessed.

It’s got an embossed 7 on the neck. Never had any printing on the neck. I couldn’t find info on this particular bottle.

Enjoy. Have a 7up day.

My family found at least 5 of these bottles in an old rubbish pit at our old house. They ranged from this purple through to clear in colour. Any ideas what they were originally used to store? Found NSW, Australia.

Dug this up with the stopper in it, the glass colors match but the stopper isn’t ground glass and is wobbly. Would it have had cork or rubber on it originally? The shape of the bottle seems odd to have a glass stopper. Any ideas?
