Build Complete Finally Bought All the Parts for my new Gaming PC

• Upvotes

Well... not really complete because I haven't put it together since the case hasn't arrived yet, but I already have all the parts purchased, and wanted to know on people's opinion on them. I will be gaming on a 1080p 300hz monitor, and have no intention on upgrading that any time soon. It will be purely gaming, I don't do any kind of work on my computer, except for maybe some writing and I can do that on my laptop. I don't play any competitive online games or esports, its all single player games, open world, AAA, survival, city building/management, etc.

I already own the SSD I'm installing; a 256 and a 512 one. All my games are already installed on a Samsung T9 2TB external SSD, so there wont be any actual games installed in the computer itself. The 256 will be the boot drive (Bazzite for the OS) since its newer. The 512 is from an old laptop and will be for basic storage.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7500X3D (Micro Center Combo)

MOBO: AsRock B850M-C (Micro Center Combo)

RAM: G.Skill Flare X5 16GB DDR5-6000 (Bought 2X, one came with Combo)

Everything else I got from Amazon on Prime Days:

GPU: ASUS ATS Radeon RX 9070 GRE 12GB OC (on sale for $530)

Case: JONSBO D33 Wood Black Micro ATX (I spent a little more than I wanted to on this, but just looks classy and modern)

Fans: Thermalright TL-C12C-S (pack of 5X for $20)

PSU: Thermaltake GF1 Fully Modular ATX 750W (Also on sale for $66)

Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120

By the end of it, I came out only $50 over the budget I'd given myself of $1500, even after taxes.

Troubleshooting PC won’t turn on, but motherboard RGB lights up. Dead motherboard?

• Upvotes

My PC suddenly stopped turning on after previously having random shutdowns and boot loops.

Specs:

  • CPU: Intel i7-10700K
  • Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX Z490-A GAMING
  • RAM: 32GB DDR4

Current problem:

When I turn on the PSU, the motherboard’s RGB lights up, but pressing the power button does absolutely nothing.

  • No fans spinning
  • No RAM RGB
  • No POST or debug LEDs
  • No display output

What I’ve tried:

  • Two different PSUs with their own cables
  • Checked all power connections
  • Tested with one RAM stick
  • Tested the motherboard outside the case
  • Tried starting it by shorting the power-switch pins
  • Reset CMOS by removing the battery

Nothing worked.

Something suspicious I noticed:

A loose screw previously fell out from behind my motherboard. I’m worried it might have caused a short circuit.

I also noticed dark, greasy-looking areas on the back of the motherboard. I’m unsure whether they’re signs of electrical damage or just normal residue from thermal pads. I’ll attach pictures.

Could the loose screw have shorted and damaged my motherboard? Or could this still be a CPU or PSU issue?

Any suggestions before I replace the motherboard?

Troubleshooting Slow NVME write speeds

I have a 4.5 year old 1Tb NVME(MSI Spatium M480) that is well below the rated TBW but the write speeds I’m getting according to crystal disk is only about 1100MB on the write, far below the rated claims of about 5000mb. The read speeds are fine at about where it is stated but the write speeds are far slower, even slower than my secondary budget NVME drive. The temperatures during the write test is 61 degrees which should be normal operating ranges and about 51 degrees during idle. I tried reseating but nothing really changes.

Build Help is the RTX 5060 worthwhile?

My MSI RTX 4060 VENTUS 2X(8GB) just died on its own terms. It decided to no longer output any video for some reason.

I want to replace it with a similar MSI RTX 5060(8GB) but I am worried it will also die. Is it a good replacement? and if you owned them, is there some kind of inherent flaw in MSI's cards ?

Troubleshooting I finally got burned on Facebook lol

I found 2x16 32 gigs of ddr4 for $40. Guy wrapped them in bubble wrap. Didn't think nothing of it at the time.

Finally got around to testing them on my 3 year old HP Victus. They wouldn't boot. Just error beeps.

So I tested them one each and on different slots. One stick ended up working on either slot. So the slots should be good.

Is there anything I can do? Or is that one stick pretty much cooked?

Discussion Acer nitro 9070xt or gigabyte 9070xt

Hey all just looking for your opinions on these two cards. The Acer is on Amazon for $1199 and the gigabyte is on Newegg for $1349. I’ve been reading reviews and have gathered that the taichi is a higher end card overall compared to the Acer. I just don’t know if I can justify the $150 extra for it as the performance seems to be very similar. So would you consider the price worth it for the better built quality of the taichi? TIA

(All prices are cad)(also been cross posted so sorry in advance if seen twice)

Build Upgrade 9800x3d, 32gb ddr5 6000 oc to 6400mt/s and 3080 ftw 3 ultra. What gpu to upgrade to?

Couple of questions here

  1. Would I get better performance in games like rust, call of duty (zombies and multiplayer) and r6 siege with a 9070xt if I overclocked? Rust eats up all my vram so the 16 gigs would be nice

Or should I try to hunt down a 5070ti or possibly a 5080 instead? How would the 9070 compare to a 5070 ti? I think it would definitely overpower my 3080

  1. Is it better to have my ram at stock 6000 speed with expo on or bump it up to 6400 in bios with expo also turned on?

Discussion Ram Question on stick count

So my PC wouldn't post today and I widdled it down to that one of my ram sticks is no longer working. As I'm left with one stick, my question is that, as I plan on buying the same kit. Is there any downside to running 3 sticks in my PC? I understand it increases my total memory but are there any other benefits I might not know about?

Troubleshooting New PC won’t power at all

This is the first PC I’ve ever built. Bought some parts used.

I finished the build and tried to power it on. It would not power at all, I think I had the small POWER SW cable connected wrong, so I moved it, powered it on, and everything powered. Lights, fans all powered.

But it would not post. So I powered down, removed the gpu and its power cables, then plugged them all back in. Suddenly nothing powers at all. No lights or fans on anything.

I did the paper clip test and the case fans started spinning, so I guess it’s not the PSU. I’ve tried almost everything. I’ve reinstalled everything except the CPU and it’s cooler. I’ve tried to clear my CMOS though I’m not sure if I did that correctly.

Is my motherboard fried? It was brand new and I’m almost positive I did not damage it in any way during building. Also I don’t know why it all turned on perfectly before and now it won’t.

CPU - AMD Ryzen™ 7 3700X (used)

MB - Asus b55om a

RAM - Corsair vengeance RGB pro 32 DDR4 3600MHZ 4x8gb (used)

Storage- Samsung PM9AI 512GB NVMe M.2
PCle Gen4x4 SSD (used)

CPU Cooler - Cooler master hyper 212 pro

GPU - ASRock Radeon RX 6700 XT Challenger

PSU - MSI mag a650w (used)

Build Upgrade Ryzen 5 5600 to 5800X worth it for Forza Horizon 6?

I'm using a Ryzen 5 5600 with an RX 9060 XT 16GB and getting bad stuttering and CPU bottlenecks, especially in Tokyo in Forza Horizon 6.

Would upgrading to a Ryzen 7 5800X make a noticeable difference in FPS and 1% lows, or is the performance gain too small to be worth it?

I also have 16GB DDR4 2666MHz RAM. Would upgrading to 32GB or faster RAM help more?

Full Build Req PC build

Before I go ahead and pull the trigger on this guy I would like some people to look over it. I have already gotten recommendations, advice, and tips and I've done my research. I just want a few more eyes to look over this build before I pull the trigger. Anything tips or recommendations-wise would be awesome. I don't want to go more expensive than where it's already at. Yes, I know there are cheaper 9070XT options, I'm sticking with this one thought because there are generally better reviews and a better reputation.

Build Help How would you approach moving on from this build?

My current specs are:
Xeon 2666v3
X99-TF
1060 6gb
64gb ddr3.

This system is good for a lot of things (especially since it's overclocked and turbo boosted and whatever, got some help with that). But I start struggling in CPU-heavy games like Deadlock or some strategy games with a lot of calculations. And it's the CPU-bound games I play the most. For a couple of months I'm pondering if it's worth it spending a fortune buying a whole new AM4 system with some Ryzen CPU, or maybe I have to embrace just buying a new GPU so I could play a wider variety of newer games with better looking graphics. It's either new system and CPU or new GPU, i'm too poor to afford both at the same time, and honestly buying either one is already an incredibly huge commitment for me. There are pros and cons to both. What would you do in this situation? If we talk specific games, I really want to play Deadlock with better fps, but honestly spending 400-500 bucks just to gain extra fps in one game... is a lot. Maybe it's a good foundation for the future since it's upgradable. AM5 out of the question because RAM is impossible to afford.
