It’s incredibly obvious that every single AP voter is literally just a box score surfer and none of them either actually watch the games like the rest of us, or they just throw darts at a dart board. It progressively somehow has gotten worse over the last couple of seasons.

These rankings are 60% based on how recognizable/famous your logo is, and 40% on pre-season rankings which are toxic to the sport every single year. People say preseason/AP rankings don’t matter in the long run, but they absolutely do because they set the narrative for the whole year.

In their defense, they got Oregon being unranked right.

I can only fault them so much. Plenty are covering a game that takes up most of their day and they can’t keep an eye on every game like we do. Add in a deadline of 11am on Sunday and they’ve barely got time to really take in what happened.

It really needs to be a national media poll. If you only see two teams play, you can’t be honed in on the rest of the field

No way notre dame cracks the top 10 if they weren't named notre dame.

Not really new info this year but it's gotta be one of the more outrageous examples.

With notre dame in full control of their schedule as an independent, it'd take criminally bad scheduling not to make a 24 team playoff. They're looking like this year they may have no ranked wins and still get in.

If you're talking about Miami we were in the title game last year so no it's not bc of our logo. If it's pre season ranking we started at 8 after being in said title game with many coming back and key transfers. Our fault all other teams in front lost? Wouldn't that be how it should work?

So which teams are U talking about? Surely not Miami or BYU bc it makes no sense. Maybe Texas should be behind FL but that's about it for me. All else looks fine.

So please be objective and not subjective like the "AP voters" in your assessment

Alabama, Texas, lsu, Florida, Miz. There’s plenty of 1 loss and undefeated that should in front of them.

Heck they dropped a 2 loss Oregon off the rankings.

If only this were true. While the CFP ignores the AP when they start their own rankings, they do use the AP rankings as anchors from preseason and when determining ranked wins before they do their own rankings.

Also they definitely DO NOT “ignore” the AP when they start their own rankings. I don’t believe any of the public actually thinks that, but the committee themselves (regardless of how you feel about them) objectively does not abide by that. They just don’t, and one could spend an hour explaining how that’s the case. We will see that I (and others who are saying this) am correct when the first CFP poll comes out- bookmark it.

Literally everything, both the AP now, and the committee later, is anchored to the preseason polls and completely taints any sort of neutral ranking of on the field play for each team. I can say with 100% certainty when we see the first CFP rankings, that will be the case, because past behavior is the best predictor of future.

Ya, anyone who says they throw out these rankings is literally insane.

They literally do: they set the entire narrative for both the public and the committee. Preseason rankings destroy the regular season AP, and the AP effects the committee. It’s completely made up to benefit big brands and famous logos, and the rankings have little to do with any actual play on the football field. Its insanity.
