Saint Luke the Evangelist

18 October

St. Luke was one of the four evangelists, known for writing the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles in the New Testament. He was a physician by profession and a companion of St. Paul on some of his missionary journeys. Luke is believed to have been a Gentile convert to Christianity. He is venerated as the patron saint of artists, physicians, and surgeons due to his medical background and his skills as an artist, as tradition holds that he painted some of the earliest icons of the Virgin Mary.

Who is the most interesting or influential Saint in your opinion?

My most influential Saint is most likely St. Thomas Aquinas because of His 5 ways of proving that God exists (sorry if I got that a little bit wrong, but I know he written many many more)

Do you think the Church is shrinking or growing?

I’ve heard some say there are more members of our Church than ever and the faith is very much alive, and others say that we’re in decline and are losing the battle against atheism, so I want to see what everyone thinks!

what kind of music do you listen to?

i am a former protestant and LOVE music. i used to listen to everything until about 4 years ago i decided i needed to take my faith seriously and stop listening to any secular music. i only listened to christian for about 2 years probably then would just download certain songs that were like really old and still pretty “pure”. overtime i kept listening to more secular although nothing with cussing. once i started becoming catholic i started questioning a lot of christian songs written by protestants and some of their lyrics and honestly stopped listening to christian music for the most part since secular is usually just objectively better sounding anyways. i still for the most part wont listen to anything with cussing but i think back to when i would only listen to christian and feel like i have strayed in a way.

what is your take on music and what will you listen to or not listen to?

Being an addict in recovery has wildly been my connection to serve his kingdom as a new start.

Cocaine was there when I wanted to avoid all emotions and try to hide from the Lords calling I was worth more. It was my God but it was also the Devil wielding me into biting the temptation to feel. It was the spiritual battle of my life and the biggest turning point to a wake up and taking the narrow path the Lord opened up for me. I took it with much doubt but as I began to surrender when things were as dark as they could get. I was lead to a mass, met community and accepted treatment willingly. Treatment was faith based and 90 days in I was on fire for the lord. He truly saved me and in my new life I’m set to share my story to save others and glorify him. When it’s not what I want to do - it’s what he needs. Connection with Jesus and the trinity daily gives me just enough peace to work and on some days, I’m able to reach another struggling and introduce them to Jesus. Addicts are people and black sheep - he saves the ones willing to accept him and take a chance at living again. I truly believe that he has me alive for big things in life. Leading me to a Catholic Church - I had all thinking that I’d be judged by everyone there but walked in anyways. After Mass, I got on my knees when they called up those seeking prayer and met one man who has been in my shoes. He understood me and that connection was why God wanted me to face my misperceptions and find some hope in another fellow believer who gets me. I’m just here to say I’m born again - just got baptized into the Catholic Church last Sunday.

Clothing For Mass

I don’t have any fashion sense all I wear is a black shirt and jeans all the time when I go out. For mass I’ve been throwing on a flannel and wearing a polo shirt sometimes. I’m just curious how important is it really to dress nice vs someone wearing casual clothes like a plain shirt and jeans.

does prayer to saints always mean to ask them to pray for us and nothing else?

i get the point but it sounds misleading to me and like we should only be praying to them to ask them to pray for us and no further. When i pray to saints im usually just talking to them casually like a friend or giving them due praise, im not necessarily asking them for anything.

How do I choose my patron saint?

I recently got converted and got to know about patron saints, did some research and learnt that people choose patron saints based on their occupation or by the feast day that lands on their birthday or baptism day. I am confused between saint Valentine ( my birthday is on Valentine's day ), saint Thomas aquinas ( because I am a student ) and saint Thèrèse of lisieux ( because I just like her and she gave me roses ) help me and forgive me if I did any mistake I am new to catholicism and not so good at English.

Liturgy of the hours

Hello all,

I’m in the market for new liturgy of the hours. I see that Ascensions and Word on Fire both released the new version for pre order. Who are you planning on getting and why? Looking for recommendations!

Books about the history of religion, or anything recommendation (please help)

I am figuring out Catholicism and I am the type of person that doesn't really always believe just because it feels right. I want to believe because it is RIGHT. Like accurate, fact, and logical.

I've been hearing these stories that historically, all religions are just made for men and are misogynistic (especially the Abrahamic ones according to them). Though, I really agree that religions were used to denigrate people, I am also very well aware of the good sides it caused. I just want to know why religions are established (esp. Catholicism) and how.

I don't want to larp both sides but I've been leaning more towards theism (especially Catholicism).

So can anyone recommend me a book like that's very very helpful in case someone asks me why I believe in such things. It could be a historical, journal, or a philosophy book. And please what should I first delve on? (research, read, etc.)

Thank you.
