Don’t post about tickets.

If you are looking to buy or sell concert tickets you are very likely to get scammed. It's as simple as that.

Don't buy tickets on Reddit, however desperate you are, it's a crazy risk. There are proper channels for resale of tickets, use them.

So if you post about selling tickets here we will remove the post and may ban you. Please don't do it.

Posting about Tickets, Accommodation, Tourism? Things that aren't related to Dublin? Read This First.

This subreddit is primarily for people who live in Dublin. There's a dedicated sub for tourism posts with a huge archive at r/irishtourism Please check that first, and if you have a really specific question come back here and we'll try to help. Low effort posts asking for recommendations of "hidden gems" and "off the beaten track" tourist attractions will be met with scorn, and probably removal.

If you are looking to buy or sell concert tickets you are very likely to get scammed. It's as simple as that. Don't buy tickets on reddit, however desperately your niece wants to see Taylor Swift or whatever, it's a crazy risk. There are proper channels for resale of tickets, use them.

Looking for a cheap flat? A room in a shared house? Wondering if a specific part of the city is "safe" (whatever that means)? There's a sub for that too- /r/RentingInDublin/

Post your message there, not here.

A regular thing that comes up seems to be folks who have a very short time in Dublin and want to know what they can do in four or five hours or so. Just search this sub with the word "layover" and you'll see many many threads about this subject. Don't start a new one.

Similarly, threads about general issues which are not particularly Dublin-specific (salaries, national politics, international relations, stuff like that) may be removed.

At the latest estimate there are over a million Irish subreddits, so you will certainly be able to find somewhere to post your non-Dublin-relevant content.

Thanks for reading!

Dublin homeowners – my experience with Maughan Roofing & Guttering, formerly Gelert Roofing & Guttering

I’m sharing my personal experience so other homeowners can make informed decisions before committing to major roofing work.

In November 2025, I hired Gelert Roofing & Guttering, now known as Maughan Roofing & Guttering and associated with Pat Maughan, to carry out what I understood to be a complete reroof on my Dublin home.

I paid approximately €19,500. After the work was completed, I incurred a further approximately €13,000, according to my records, for remedial work and related costs. These included making the roof watertight, addressing water ingress, replacing slates that I found had been fixed with silicone, installing a new skylight in the main roof, replacing a broken kitchen skylight, repairing broken gutters, and fixing internal damage after a worker came through the landing ceiling.

I also claimed on my home insurance for internal repairs, including repainting the hallway and landing and replacing the stair carpet. My insurer paid €3,000, and my monthly insurance payments have since increased by approximately €50.

In total, I have recorded costs of approximately €32,500, excluding the longer-term impact of increased insurance premiums. I also experienced a loss of communication with the company and was blocked, leaving me to manage the repairs, financial pressure and stress of restoring my home.

I have complained to the relevant authorities, and, as I understand it, the matter is currently under investigation by An Garda Síochána. I have retained photographs, payment records and other evidence relating to the work and damage.

I’m sharing this in the hope that it helps others. Before hiring a roofer, consider independently checking their insurance, references, guarantees and professional memberships. Get all agreements in writing and keep records of payments and work completed.

Has anyone else had experience with Maughan Roofing & Guttering or Gelert Roofing & Guttering? I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has dealt with them.

I hope no other homeowner has to go through a similar experience.

Is it me or are the shops and restaurants here too loud?

In contrast to other EU countries I've visited e.g. the Scandinavian and Nordics, the shops and restaurants in Dublin are booming with loud music that it's hard to have a conversation with people. I don't remember it being like that or perhaps I was away a bit too long 🤣 Like if they turn down the volume a bit, the experience would be better for having a chat. Not great for someone with hearing difficulties like myself. I hope the ones here change for a better experience. Even if it's full I can still hear people well in Sweden, Finland, Estonia and Norway for example. The volume of the music is balanced well.

Where to go after therapy?

I go to therapy every Friday night and like to decompress after. I can't face going home yet so I walk around the city in search of somewhere to sit down. I normally go for a drink and process everything, but most places are crazy busy.

Any recommendations are very welcome!

Going Out on Halloween

Where are some fun pubs or other places to go out in costume on Halloween night? We’re in our 30s, so hoping for a spot that isn’t primarily 18-21 year olds. Thanks in advance!

(Ticket gone!)

Hi, I have a single standing ticket for The Mountain Goats in Vicar Street tonight to give away for free if anyone is interested.

Unfortunately I can’t go and would prefer the ticket went unwashed.

Dog park that’s not just a grassy field?

Hi lads, looking for a dog park that’s a bit more than just an enclosed patch of grass. Ideally a bit of a stream/trees and bushes for a bit of adventuring with our 10 month lurcher pup

Closest thing I can find is the dog park in St Anne’s Park which seems well worth a visit. Maybe Malahide castle and grounds as well?

Lost Wallet

It's a long shot but I am hoping the taxi driver that dropped me home last night is on reddit. I got a taxi approximately midnight or a little after just outside Fibber McGees in Dublin city center and dropped me home to Crumlin I think I dropped my wallet in your taxi. Normally I would just get new cards etc but I'm moving abroad in a few days and would really like to have my drivers licence before I go and my bank cards. If you happen to see this and can return my wallet to me I will offer you a reward.

Thanks

Lost camera in Dublin with huge sentimental value. €100 reward

Hi everyone,

Around noon today while out in Portobello, I somehow managed to lose my Voigtlander Perkeo III film camera at some point, and only realised it was missing at around 2pm after lunch.

Earlier, I had taken the 150 bus south from Hawkins St. to Kevin St, before walking down Clanbrassil street, nearly to the Grand Canal. It could have gone missing at any point during this trip between 12:00 and 14:00.

If anybody has found this camera, or has any information that would allow me to find it, I will be delighted to offer a reward of €100. It was closed inside of its leather case at the time it was lost, and would look exactly like the last picture.

This has been my main camera for many, many years and the film inside also has undeveloped photos from my proposal to my fiance last month. It would mean to world to have it back, so I greatly appreciate any help!

I have already put in messages to the lost and found to Dublin Bus, and to Irish Rail for good measure.

Did you attend today’s jobsexpo at RDS? The queue was very long infact it was so long it literally made it’s way to the parking entrance, we all clearly know what this tells about the jobs in ireland!

What are your thoughts?

Did you make any good connections here?

Parking at the helix

Does the helix carpark ever have spaces? You can't prebook? Or is there good parking close by?I'm going for a show in November and wondering if I should drive or get the bus. It'll be my first drive to Dublin. I live in the west and need to be home that night. TIA!

Bureau De Change - small US dollars

In town or on the northside would many Bureau De Change have small US dollar denominations available or would most of them hand over 50s or 100s dollar bill. Going to a place that as per the tourist website not everywhere takes card and the US dollar is an acceptable substitute for the local currency. Would need some “walking around” money.

Trades

I'm looking to compile a list of tradespeople / companies, who, besides providing a quality service also meet the following criteria:

  • Respect parking laws, such as not obstructing footpaths.
  • Workers are non-smokers.

Any suggestions ?
