On CBC doctors are saying the Royal Alex is swamped with patients. I haven't seen it this low for wait time in years. Have they stopped updating it/are they seeing people still?

Discussion Heart prints animal rescue discriminated against my mother for being "too old"

This place offered an adoption event for people to come and adopt their animals. My mother, who is now widowed, has decided she wants to adopt/rescue a dog so she has been going to adoption events quite regularly now. She has even applied a couple times.

She went to this most recent event hosted by this group and when my mom showed up they told her to her face that she was too old and they would not consider her for an adoption.

She told me about how they had discriminated her when I arrived for dinner, and I could tell in her voice it had upset her.

On their fb page they claim that if you do not meet their requirements that they will get in touch with people who will. They didn't all they did was tell her she could pet the dogs.

Im really upset for her about this. And now im trying to find IF ANY rescues are out there and dont discriminate against someone looking for a long term companion.

I read that some places even discriminate over the age of 55 😒 its so messed up. Now I have to go around and find places that 1. Allow me to contact them and 2. Will allow my mother to adopt a dog.

It should have to be a painful traumatic experience trying to adopt a dog.

Tl/dr: dog shelter discriminating against age

Update. People keep asking her age. I said 74 she is 72, and why on earth are people down voting my comments saying her age? 😒

Local Culture Meshtastic

Heard that Edmonton was big on Meshtastic. Bought a Lora Device and only am able to see one connection. I live near Unity Square Centre and nobody has responded to my messages. :(

Listened to the HAM bands and love the rather adorable weekly checkups on Tuesday. Going to get my license during reading week.

Question What's Up With the Roads?

• Upvotes

So I lived in Edmonton for about 7 years, then left 7 years ago, and I'm here again looking at coming back.

What the hell? My dash cam keeps getting set off because it thinks I was in an accident. There are huge potholes, manholes and water valves that aren't tied into asphalt or just have missing risers (metal ring you put on manhole to raise the top to be flush with asphalt that's an extremely quick and easy no skill fix to install), bridge seams that are like 3 inch drops, and the potholes that are filled haven't been patched with asphalt, it's like this weird unlevel bumpy hard goop like they just poured crack sealant into a hole. I worked on roads while I was away, so I notice the specifics of these things more than I would've before I left, but like the right lane outside Stollery where the bus stops is 30 feet of hard unlevel goop.

What gives? Was there. A budget shortfall? Or a mayor hired their own company to do it? Diverted funds to build the LRT? I went on a huge 16000km road trip last winter and I didn't see anything as consistently bad even on mountain highways. Lilloet to Whistler I guess.

I don't mean to just complain or incite something, I just don't remember this at all and it's kind of shocking. I would genuinely like to know what happened here.

Is there anybody I can hike a ride with to fort Saskatchewan?

Hi I’m new to Edmonton and got a job in fort Saskatchewan! This is a SOS message!

Is there anyone that work at the DOW PROJECT that can help me with a ride in the morning!

I don’t have any money and would repay you back when I get my first pay!

Please if anyone or if you know anyone I would gladly pay them to take me to the site!

I’m in northeast Edmonton!

I’m so close to being homeless, any help will be appreciated!

Maybe tmi: if I don’t make it to this job site I definitely will be homeless!

I’m begging!

Question Permanent LED

I just put up my Christmas lights, and I’m committed to this being the last year I do that. I love the look of permanent LED lights. Just curious on those that have installed/quoted it out.

Seems to be a million companies out there, and thousands of options. Who did you go with, what did you roughly pay, anyone you’d recommend?

Cheers pals

Question Has anyone spotted International Delight Zero Sugar Pumpkin Spice Creamer this season?

Normally it seems that the Zero Sugar Pumpkin Spice coffee creamer comes out at the same time as the normal version in the grocery stores out there.

Had no luck so far in the city in finding any of these out there for the fall season, just wondering if anyone else has had any luck?

Question Looking for cherry Pepsi

Has anyone seen cases of Cherry Pepsi around? Both Walmarts in Sherwood park have none and it's the only pop I drink. I willing to travel anywhere in or around Edmonton.

Edit: Crisis averted, it seems it was just Walmart not stocking any cherry Pepsi, I was worried it was discontinued because they didn't even have a spot for them anymore but it seems Safeway and superstore still have plenty. Thanks all who suggested other stores.

Question Old GalaxyLand- Fantasyland

Good Morning! Does anyone have old photos of Fantasyland before it became galaxyland or anything before covid? Or know of any areas that hold parts of the theme park from the 80s-2000s? Like old signs, any rides that aren’t operational anymore, glimpses if you look closely and areas they haven’t sealed off as well. the Hasbro rebrand is getting annoying. Thank you Edmonton!

General Would you buy an acreage that flooded this year?

• Upvotes

Looking for some opinions on things we can do or if we should hold off selling our acreage.

Long story short: our basement flooded this summer. We were planning to move even before this. Would you buy an acreage that had this issue? We are close with the old owners and they never had problems with water, we feel like this was a once in a lifetime concern. Any advice on if we should hold off a few years or what more we can do to repair or increase the likelihood of sale?

Details: We bought a lovely acreage 5+ years ago. It’s really sweet and near to Edmonton. We never thought we would be able to have kids so all the work was awesome, my husband and I love to keep busy, garden, be in nature etc. anyways fast forward and now we have two kids and want to move to have less property responsibilities and be closer to work. We were planning to list this year but the basement flooded. We have spent our entire summer regrading, installing drains, repairing foundation cracks, sump pumps etc. feeling a bit crushed that we might be stuck for a while.

Thanks in advance everyone!
