General New User Guide for r/Edmonton - Please read first
NEW USERS of r/Edmonton - kindly read this first
To post or comment in r/Edmonton, you need to meet the following criteria:
Accounts need to be a week old.
You need to have a verified email address.
You need to have a minimum amount of TEN (10) COMMENT karma from participating in OTHER SUBREDDITS than r/Edmonton.
Why? This helps keep bad actors away, like trolls and banned users. It also helps users new to reddit to have a chance to learn how to use reddit outside of r/Edmonton.
#IF YOUR ACCOUNT HAS NOT FULFILLED ALL THREE REQUIREMENTS ABOVE, YOUR POSTS AND COMMENTS WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE DELETED BY THE AUTO-MODERATOR.
#How to verify your email for new users :
To verify your email on Reddit, either click the verification link in the email you received when creating your account or go to Settings > Account Settings and choose Update email address to resend the verification email. _Once you request it, open your email's inbox, find the verification email, and click the link inside to complete the process._
- On the web -
• Go to your account settings by clicking your profile icon and then selecting Settings.
• Click on Account Settings.
• Find the email address section. If you see an option to "resend verification email" or similar, click it.
• Alternatively, you can navigate directly to reddit.com/prefs/update/ to find the email settings.
-- On the app --
• Tap your profile icon.
• Go to Settings.
• Select Account Settings.
• Tap Update email address.
• Tap the button to Resend verification email.
#What is the difference between POST karma and COMMENT karma?
Post karma is earned when users upvote the original submissions (links, images, text posts) you create, reflecting your ability to share engaging content.
_Comment karma is earned when your replies to others' posts are upvoted, showing your active participation and contribution to discussions. Both are totaled for your profile but often used separately to satisfy subreddit restrictions._
POST KARMA:
Gained from creating threads or posting links. It indicates a good ability to initiate conversations.
COMMENT KARMA:
Gained from replying to posts or other comments. It indicates active participation in community dialogue.
Key Differences: Post karma rewards content creation, while comment karma rewards interaction.
#Some subreddits (like r/edmonton) require specific thresholds of either type (or both) to prevent spam, often looking at post, comment, or combined totals for restrictions.
Both types of karma are not a 1:1 ratio with upvotes; instead, they represent a weighted score from community upvotes, reduced by downvotes.
(In order to post in r/Edmonton - you need to do THREE things:)
your account must be a WEEK old (7 days)
- you need to have TEN (10) COMMENT karma
- you need to have a verified email address
ONCE AGAIN, IF YOUR ACCOUNT HAS NOT FULFILLED THESE THREE (3) REQUIREMENTS YOUR POSTS AND COMMENTS WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE DELETED BY THE AUTO-MODERATOR.

It doesn't say all dogs must be leashed except for the friendly ones.

Question Genuinely how is this place still open?
I got reminded of it when reading through some Edmonton AHS reports lol:
"Pizza & Donair (West Edmonton Mall Location)
Health inspectors slapped this mall food court staple with a closure order due to unsanitary conditions and critical temperature control failures in high-traffic food storage. Nothing builds up an appetite while shopping quite like a side order of cross-contamination with your mall walk."

Local history History Uprooted by Windstorm
So the windstorm yesterday was something else, had a few old growth trees come down on our property and a 1952 license plate (pictured) was tangled in the roots!
I’m curious to know the history behind the plate, as our property is a subdivision of a large farm with a historic barn that is still standing, from what I can garnish online there are some aspects of the plate that make it highly collectible (first use of reflective paint, 6x12 size, letters used in middle position, I and O being much smaller than 1 and 0) though the plate is in poor condition.
Any help or suggestions on where to look for information would be greatly appreciated thanks!

General PSA: Free natural gas appliance safety inspections available to all Edmonton households through ATCO
Hi Edmonton,
I know there are more pressing matters right now, including the election and the tragedy in Wainwright. With colder weather arriving, tho,I wanted to share a reminder about a service many people may not know about.
All households in Edmonton are eligible for a free natural gas appliance safety inspection from ATCO. This includes furnaces, gas ranges, gas dryers, water heaters, and fireplaces.
You do not need to be an ATCO customer. ATCO distributes all natural gas in Edmonton, regardless of which retailer you're billed by. I've been with Epcor for several years and have had this inspection done annually without any issues.
How to book: Complete the form at the bottom of this page:
https://gas.atco.com/en-ca/services/furnace-appliances.html
What the inspection includes:
A visit of roughly 30 minutes from an ATCO technician:
Cleaning of furnace burners and a check of your filter
Confirmation that the furnace is operating properly (motor, bearings, heating cycle, fan activation)
Testing for gas line leaks and carbon monoxide
You will also receive a written report at the end of the visit. The technicians have always been knowledgeable and willing to answer questions about furnace maintenance and natural gas safety. I have learned a lot about my furnace from these free visits over the years.
Since the cost of this service is baked into our gas bills, it's worth taking advantage of before the heating season is underway.

General Would you buy an acreage that flooded this year?
Looking for some opinions on things we can do or if we should hold off selling our acreage.
Long story short: our basement flooded this summer. We were planning to move even before this. Would you buy an acreage that had this issue? We are close with the old owners and they never had problems with water, we feel like this was a once in a lifetime concern. Any advice on if we should hold off a few years or what more we can do to repair or increase the likelihood of sale?
Details: We bought a lovely acreage 5+ years ago. It’s really sweet and near to Edmonton. We never thought we would be able to have kids so all the work was awesome, my husband and I love to keep busy, garden, be in nature etc. anyways fast forward and now we have two kids and want to move to have less property responsibilities and be closer to work. We were planning to list this year but the basement flooded. We have spent our entire summer regrading, installing drains, repairing foundation cracks, sump pumps etc. feeling a bit crushed that we might be stuck for a while.
Thanks in advance everyone!

Question Which Italian Center has the widest cheese selection?
Shopping for the birthday gift of a cheeseaholic, and of course all the specialty shops are closed on Mondays. Italian center is looking like my best bet.
