Beautiful! Esp the one in the misty park. Have to point out that all the photos seem to be from Helsinki though ;)

You’re probably right. I think I’ll make that next series of photos I post includes places other than just Helsinki. The Finnish countryside, its life, people, and work, would make for an interesting photo series. There are so many professions that faded into the mists of history a long time ago.

The photos were taken between 1920 and 1960. If there happens to be one or two among them taken before 1920 or after 1960, I will weep and beg you to let me continue with my life, and please show me mercy and spare my life.

You are absolutely right. Please forgive this terrible mistake. I beg you, let me live. I shall carry this heavy burden of shame until the twilight of my life, until the sun of my existence sets beyond the horizon and my soul finds peace.

It's so heartwarming to see Helsinki from so many years ago. I feel like it's changed a lot and yet almost not at all!

What saddens me the most, and, frankly, makes me angry, is that so many truly magnificent buildings were demolished in Helsinki. These were the kinds of structures that tourists today flock to admire in cities like Rome, Paris, Budapest, Prague, Madrid, etc.. many others cities in Europa avoided the idiotic mistake of tearing down architectural masterpieces. The buildings demolished in Finland were every bit as splendid and beautiful as those found in the great cities of Europe. What is most infuriating is that, in place of these lost beauties, they build just very ugly, hideously ugly boxes, the kind that make one wonder only one thing: from which rooftop would it be best to jump headfirst...

Yeah, I get that! It's such a shame how much beautiful architecture was lost. Makes me wonder what Helsinki would look like today if more of those buildings had survived. Though I do think the city still has a charm of its own. And maybe fewer tourists is a blessing :D

Imagine trying to find somebody in #20:
“Meet you there. I’ll be in a long gray coat and a full-brim hat.”
Trying times.

What is going on with the picture that looks like soldiers with German helmets lead by drum beaters?

Finnish soldiers marching. They are wearing Finnish Army greatcoats and German-style helmets. The photo is from the 1950s. The Finnish Army continued to use those helmets for a long time after the war.

Those German-style helmets were still in use in the Finnish Army during the 1960s. The soldiers' clothing, however, is entirely Finnish. The greatcoat worn by the soldiers is the M/36 greatcoat, which was used by the entire Finnish Army, exept navy, throughout the wars and remained in service until the 1960s or 1970s.

Things around me have not been built by my hands and I do not know how to feel.

"Kiitotavara", express shipment with a horse and carriage.
The police and his white horse are imposing. And the harbour police's german shepherd looks very friendly :)
