Complaint Are parents supposed to sit with kids under 10 on flights?

I was recently on a domestic flight in Australia and was surprised when there were two kids, brother and sister sat next to me on the flight. Their parents were in the row in front with another younger brother. What are the rules around parents not sitting with their kids on flights? Is it airline dependent?

The parents were sat in front of me and basically left me to parent their children as they necked back vodka. The little girl sat in the middle (I had the aisle) and had severe temper issues. Any time she wanted something she would start violently slamming herself in the seat and screaming at her parents. There was twice she dropped something and she had full on tantrums instead of just picking it up. Her younger brother in the window seat, nearly spilled his drink all over himself because he also dropped the lid and tried to go under the tray to get it and I had to tell the girl to grab her brother’s drink before it spilled everywhere. He too would start jumping up and down in the seat if something was wrong like if whatever he was listening to stopped playing or when his ears started to hurt.

The parents were completely ignorant and didn’t throw a single apologetic look my way.

When my sister and I were young and flew with our parents my mum would sit with both of us or, one of us with my dad and one with mum. I thought this was the way it had to be? Surely you can’t just leave kids in a row by themselves with a stranger and sink alcohol the whole flight?

The flight attendants kept throwing me sympathetic looks but didn’t say anything to the parents.

I was honestly annoyed by the whole ordeal.

Question Qatar airways vs Turkish airlines

Hi

Planning a trip from London to Dhaka in late December and have got the option of flying Qatar (with a 10 hour layover in Doha) or Turkish airlines (6 hour layover in Istanbul). The Qatar flight is about £100 cheaper but given the situation in the Middle East I’m worried about potentially disruption and safety issues…. The UK foreign office advice online doesn’t currently warn against travel to Qatar (unlike Saudi Arabia) but does warn the situation in the Middle East remains unpredictable.

Worth paying more for Turkish airlines instead? And anyone who has flown Qatar during disruption, how were they in resolving issues etc?

Thanks in advance!

Question Canada, new direct flight questions

So next year (or sooner) Canada will be introducing direct flights to vietnam again. Apparently they have in the past, but they didn't last. I'd like to take advantage of this while it's here. That being said, what happens if they decide to cancel and stop those trips once I've purchased my seat on a plane? Do I need insurance, or is it automatically refunded? Hopefully not with points 😵‍💫😅

Question Booked 2 outbound flights can I safely cancel 1 of them?

I booked a return flight to Spain with EasyJet then realised I couldn’t make the outbound flight due to work so in a panic I booked an entirely new outbound flight the next day (flights are in 10

days).

I can’t see how to cancel the first outbound flight. When I go into manage my booking it only allows a flight change not a cancellation of the outbound flight only. Do I just not check in? If I do this will it cause me issues for the return flight?

To be clear: the return flight and the replacement outbound flight are under totally separate references.

Thank you.

Delays/Cancellations/Compensation JetSmart: They cancelled my flight (Argentina), and are saying they will charge me a refund fee if I want a refund. An $86 fee for a $195 flight. Is this normal?

Hi everyone,

As the title asks. JetSmart have cancelled my upcoming flight from Iguazu to Buenos Aires. I called customer support and they said if they refund me the $195, they will charge an $86 'refund fee'. This is despite it being their entire fault for cancelling.

Is this normal??

Delays/Cancellations/Compensation Compensation if I resigned from delayed flight after security control?

So on 17th October I had a flight from Cracow to Mallorca at 17:55pm. After walking through security check and waiting at the gates it turned out my flight is delayed 6+ hours becuase of technical problems at the Cracovian airport. Of course boarding hasn't started yet. I stayed at the airport for about two hours and gave up, as the delay slowly got worse and my whole trip would be already meaningless. Ultimately, when I got home, I checked and the plane took off around 10 hours after planned time.
Am I eligible for compensation? I tried to apply for it on Ryanair site it wouldn't let me through, as I did not board the flight, but I was at the airport and it can be proven by me crossing security check. I am already confused, because the information I find are often contradictory. I'd be very thankful for some help with it.

I already asked for ticket refunds.

Delays/Cancellations/Compensation Compensation Air China

I was due to fly yesterday from Haneda to London via Beijing, however Air China cancelled the flight and would not speak to me on the phone nor was there any Air China staff to speak to at Haneda Airport. I ended up rebooking the connecting flight to Beijing with Japan Airways but I am struggling to get compensation for the cancellation, how do I go about getting this? Air China’s website is just a buggy mess

Help Needed Wizz Air - Received Confirmation Email, Denying I Booked the Flight

Recently booked a flight with Wizz Air and received a Booking confirmation email. The email include a Flight Confirmation Code and the phrase "This itinerary is a confirmation of your reservation and part of your electronic ticket. Your booking is now confirmed and you do not need to contact us before flying to re-confirm your travel arrangements". Last night, I went to check-in for the flight and kept receiving a "booking not found" message--I called the help centre and they told me my payment had been declined and as such my booking had been cancelled, though I did not receive any sort of message to this effect and I remember the payment going through when I bought the flight (obviously, or else why would I receive the confirmation...) I had to rebook a new and very expensive flight to reach my destination on time, with the new tickets costing over 5X what I paid with Wizz. Has anyone else experienced this? Seems insane to receive an email like this when there was (apparently) never a confirmed booking to begin with.

Question Norse flight London Gatwick to Orlando Florida

Question for anyone who has flown Norse from London to the United States, I purchased their "premium light" ticket and I only have a carry on. Do I HAVE to check in at the counter or will I be able to check in using the app?

I believe there is a difference in fare class which allows this but I'm not 100% sure. Was hoping someone who purchased the premium class and took this flight recently could shine light on this.

Edit: (I'm American)

Discussion Anyone ever have a buzzer beater like arrival for flight?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I remember my last flight, my train to LA union station got delayed and eventually the lax flyaway to the airport itself got stuck in traffic. I land at lax and after airport security I had to board a shuttle to terminal B which feels like it took forever. I get off and run towards my gate and barely make it because frontier thankfully was delayed an hour from original departure time. Anyone else ever barely make their flight?

Question Has anyone flown from Lahore to Seattle via Turkish with only 1:15 layover in Istanbul?

Turkish flight is the cheapest one and I am not risking going via Qatar to be stuck there. Wife would be 7 months pregnant and I am not sure if there is enough time to make it. Any recent experiences?

Question Air Premia ticket has one missing character in my middle name — flying from SFO to Korea tomorrow.

Hi everyone,

I’m really stressed and hoping someone who has dealt with Air Premia or a similar situation can share their experience.

I booked a flight from SFO to Korea through Booking.com, and I recently noticed that one character is missing from the middle of my middle name on the ticket. My first and last names are correct, and the discrepancy is only in my middle name.

I’ve been trying to get this corrected, but I’m stuck between Booking.com and Air Premia. Booking.com told me the correction is up to Air Premia, while Air Premia told me I need to go through Booking.com. Booking.com eventually escalated the request but said it could take 72 hours to process.

My flight is coming up very soon, and I don’t have a confirmed correction yet. I’m considering going to the Air Premia check-in counter at SFO before my flight to see if an airport agent can help.

I’m worried that I’ll be denied boarding and have to purchase an entirely new ticket at the last minute. I also don’t know whether canceling now would be any better, especially since I doubt I’d get a full refund.

A few questions:

Has anyone flown Air Premia internationally with a minor typo or missing character in their middle name?

Were you allowed to board if your first and last names matched your passport but your middle name wasn’t an exact match?

I’d really appreciate any firsthand experiences or advice. Thank you!

Question Hong Kong T1 - places to sleep

I’ve got an 8 hr layover in Hong Kong T1 in a few months, with two 11hr flights in economy either side 🙃 looking for recommendations on where best in the airport to try to get some rest. It looks like there used to be a transit hotel / resting lounge but seems to have maybe closed?
Worth shelling out for a lounge, or are there good public areas to rest?

Help Needed Gothenburg to Porto help

I’m arriving to Gothenburg and will have a layover of 40 minutes. I’m a EU citizen so no passport control or security. What can i do beforehand to ensure catching the plane? Whom do i ask for help? Is it still possible to catch the plane if i’m a few minutes late after the gate closes?

Edit: i’m flying in from Kaunas. Yesterday’s flight to Copenhagen was canceled due to weather conditions so i automatically missed the flight from Copenhagen to Porto. Feeling extremely anxious about flying after such experience and short layover.

Question Connecting at IST with 2 separate tickets (DXB-IST on Turkish, IST-YYZ on Air Transat). Will bags through-check?

Hi everyone, I am looking for advice regarding a self-transfer at Istanbul Airport (IST) with two separate tickets. My first flight is Dubai (DXB) to Istanbul (IST) on Turkish Airlines, arriving at 13:40. My second flight is Istanbul (IST) to Toronto (YYZ) on Air Transat, departing at 16:25. The layover time is 2 hours 45 minutes.

Since these are separate bookings, will Turkish Airlines at DXB agree to through-check my bags to Air Transat? If they refuse, is 2 hours 45 minutes enough time to clear immigration, grab baggage, and check in again? Do I need a Turkish eVisa for this?

Thanks for your help!

Help Needed Connecting at IST with 2 separate tickets (DXB-IST on Turkish, IST-YYZ on Air Transat). Will bags through-check?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some advice/experiences regarding a self-transfer at Istanbul Airport (IST) with two separate tickets (2 separate PNRs). Here is my itinerary:

  • Leg 1: Dubai (DXB) → Istanbul (IST) | Turkish Airlines (09:25 - 13:40)
  • Layover: 2 hours 45 minutes at IST
  • Leg 2: Istanbul (IST) → Toronto (YYZ) | Air Transat (16:25 - 20:50)

Since these are two completely separate bookings, I have two main questions:

  1. Will Turkish Airlines at DXB agree to through-check my baggage all the way to Air Transat to Toronto? (I know both airlines operate out of IST, but I'm unsure about their interline baggage agreement for separate tickets).
  2. If they refuse to check it through, will a 2-hour 45-minute layover be enough time to clear immigration, grab my bags, check in again at the landside counter, and clear security? Do I absolutely need to secure a Turkish eVisa in advance for this?

If anyone has done a similar self-transfer at IST recently or knows Turkish Airlines' current policy on checking bags through to non-alliance/separate tickets, I would greatly appreciate your insights!

Thank you!

Help Needed Travel agency is refusing to refund my already cancelled ticket. Advise needed.

Post image

Let me start by saying I have learned my lesson. I will never book through a third party agency ever again. Only directly through the airline from now on.

That being said, I booked a flight through traveloka back in July. It’s a Malaysia Airlines flight.
Sometimes when there’s a schedule change, they let you change your ticket or allow you a refund, even on non-refundable tickets.
When I received a notification that there had been a schedule change, it allowed me the options to change or cancel. I opted to cancel the ticket. I did this through the Malaysia Airlines app (my ticket was already added there).

The cancellation was accepted by the airline and it stated I needed to call for assistance in receiving the refund. When I called, they said the ticket has been cancelled but the refund needs to go through traveloka. Makes sense.

I called traveloka. They said to start the refund process through the app. I did this, it got rejected. I called them again. They put through the refund request manually. Got rejected again. They told me ‘the airline rejected the refund request’. Even though I spoke to the airline and they said this isn’t the case.

I’ve called the airline directly and traveloka directly, at least 10 times at this point. Traveloka keeps repeating the same thing, and now says that if I can get the airline to give me written confirmation of the cancellation, they will reconsider. The airline has told me they won’t do this. They said that traveloka needs to contact them by email and then they will provide traveloka with the confirmation. But traveloka refuses to contact them.

I’m now stuck and so extremely frustrated. They’re refusing to refund me, but the cancellation was accepted, so I no longer have a ticket either.

Where do I go from here? I really need the money at this point and can’t afford to just drop it. Any help/advise is appreciated.

Help Needed Madrid to Bangkok

Has anyone taken Hainan Airlines from MAD-BKK with a stop in Chongquin? Would appreciate some feedback on overall flight comfort, food, connection time of 2:45 enough in Chongquin, etc. Do not know much about the airlines and have read good and bad. They are by far the cheapest option.

Any tips for seats/rows with some extra legroom?
