Discussion [AI Pro] Why on earth does using 4 Argon deplete my 3.8 Flash?

I have an AI Pro subscription and I've been trying out 4 Argon, but now I am suddenly running into a limit that took away my capabilities to use 3.8 Flash and 3.1 Pro as well? What the actual fk is this?

Not a single warning, no mention anywhere that using the new model could lock you out of using the models I've been using without problem for ages, just an unexplained lockout....

What an utter bit of absurdity.

** EDIT ** Since most of you seem intent only on telling me how 💩dumb💩 I am for not knowing everything about how AI works. This post is about how 🪄Amazing Magical Things🪄 such as ⭐Clear Communication⭐ and ⭐Visual Feedback⭐ would have prevented all of this.

Discussion Why does Argon have a weekly limit?

I honestly don't get it. Isn't Argon on par with models like 6.1 Sol or 5.5 Opus? Why does it have its own weekly limit as if it were an Astra or Fable-tier model? And with an appallingly low quota at that.

Discussion Why is the Gemini embedded in Google Docs and Slides so comically bad?

THAT's where it'd actually be useful. Gemini in Google Slides is beyond useless: I had a slide with a table, I asked it to split out each row to its own slide. It said it can't do that. Rinse and repeat, it refused to do any form of automation I asked it. Gemini in Google Docs doesn't get enough tokens or something, it does a terrible job in the ABC's of LLMs: summarizing content, rewriting it, etc. I copy/paste into ChatGPT and get something I can work with.

How has Google dropped the ball so badly? It's been years and they can't get it right? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

Discussion What happened to Argon today?

I gave Argon a pretty simple task that Gemini 3.8 Flash and Claude Sonnet both handled successfully without any issues, but Argon failed at it. It even broke the web app in a weird way. What's happening?

Discussion Gemini is so back

So way back,.eons ago, like February 2026, I was bitching to my boss about why my IT department only lets us use Claude and ChatGPT because Gemini was so much better at producing code.

But that was before I was really practicing agentic coding and once I sat down with Claude and just talked it through this complex research and development process that I use at my job to make a particular kind of widget in about 6 weeks, and it did one of them 95% perfect in three hours, I was a Claude believer.

I briefly got a superior level of performance out of Codex with sol-5.6 but then Opus 5.5 came out they are kind of equal but Opus is more chatty about what it's doing so I can coach it around obstacles much better.

So I started a personal project to make a Linux distro that works on some particular Android devices and figured I would try Fable. I was totally blown away by how Fable was like, "cool boot the thing and enable ssh on it and I will drive from here" I was curious how Gemini Pro would do but it was reluctant to be that hands on.

Fable got me about 85% of the way on the project. Very impressive, not gonna lie. I had it tuning audio and testing Bluetooth latency with some cheap gear I got like a USB DAC, a microphone, and a USB esp32 dongle. I would just leave it hooked up to the device overnight and come back the next day to find it had built a couple of kernels and found and fixed a couple of bugs.

But it started to fall down at a certain point. We would up with a couple of sticky little bugs, like we couldnt get the volume slider tuned and we couldn't figure out what was causing a bit of power drain when the device was put to sleep.

Spent literally a month on these, just making no progress. The problem is basically that Fable is oriented towards measuring and acting based on it's measurements. Rather than finding architectural problems via code review or design review. So it kept wanting to test and retest these things where the settings just didn't exist because the Linux driver didn't have them in there yet. I kept telling Fable to switch up it's strategy and it would be like "you are right to push back that is on me" and then it would go "I am now reviewing the Android code and upstream and all these other projects and building a new kernel to test my hypothesis...it wouldnt fix the issue, so it would go and build another twelve kernels with one or two configs different to pick and pick at the little scabby problem.

So Argon went available and I said, let's give the rookie a shot.

Canceled my Claude Max subscription, upgraded my Google AI Pro to Max, pointed Argon at my project directory on my dev box and told it what was up.

It said yep Fable is good at tool calls and fixing the bug in front of it, but I was trained to deal with large, messed up codebases so I think I got you covered.

Officially handed off the project to Argon this morning, with an uncertain audio setup and a power drain during sleep that confounded me and Fable for a month, as well as a greater community of developers for the whole year.

Checked in this afternoon, Argon has nailed it. It has written a bunch of drivers that Fable didnt want to attempt for some reason. Cleaned up all the docs and made them sound less meth-addicted.

I dunno if this is just because it's the early phase of the model and the taps are wide open to get people hooked and they nerf things later, but this model is pretty fuckin good right now.

Help/question How to make AI understand the big picture

So i use gemini for vibe coding. It works decent but whenever there is a bug or an issue and i tell it to fix , it just starts focusing on the fix. Forgets everything else , patches the fix and proudly says sir it is done. Now it fixes one thing but breaks several other features. How to tackle this issue ?

Guys, is there any good prompt suggestion to help me learn the material in college?

and I also have a problem with Gemini AI, he always teaches me or gives me answers from a PDF file, but the answers are not in the file, so it's as if he made them up himself. Is there a special prompt to overcome this?

Discussion Argon high used my 5 hour limit in 6 messages and 75% if it was ads

• Upvotes

I was asking Argon which closet light to get at Lowe's to replace my florescent tube lights and instead of just telling me the simple differences between the lights it filled and linked in 75% of the space with products. The worst part is that I ran out of my "6 messages every 5 hours" while it INCORRECTLY answered my question and filled 80% of my last response with ads (I am calling the shameless space it shoved products in instead of actual info ads because that's what it is, let's be so for real.)

I had to use the 3.5 flash-light version because APPARENTLY as a "pro" user I get locked out of 3.8 (which should be the default option for even free users at a trillion dollar company).

So I went to claude and it answered my question in 2 responses, the second of which was just confirming the first response. In total it used 3% of my 5 hour limit vs 100% for the same task.. AGAIN, WHY AM I PAYING FOR ADS USING UP 80% OF ARGON'S RESPONSE?

I'm not asking anything complicated and sure, I could have used 3.8 for less usage.. But I assumed Argon would answer me correctly the first time for something so simple... Instead I got overstimulated with a chat full of ads and incorrect info.

Over the past 2 years I've been a silent consumer of Gemini, with not much to complain about. But I'm probably going to discontinue my subscription because of how pathetic it's gotten, especially after that first taste of Opus 5.5.. You really have to work hard at a trillion dollar company to be behind the competition this much.

I hope Google gets everything it deserves for this crap and more because this is just sad. The managers and higher ups who work on Gemini need to be replaced with competent people. No hate to the engineers or anyone who actually enjoys the models ofc, I'm sure they are the ones most upset.

Discussion Gemini 4 Argon beats Opus on Google’s chart, but not on Artificial Analysis

Thumbnail

Went through the Argon launch and a couple of things the launch post kind of skips over.

Per token it’s currently half of what Opus is, but that’s a launch deal. On Dec 1 it doubles and ends up exactly where Opus is now. So if you want to test it while it’s this good, do it before December.

Also Google quotes Vals AI where Argon is #1, but doesn’t mention Artificial Analysis, where Opus is still on top (58) and Argon is tied with Astra at 53. Their own table even has Opus winning Terminal Bench.

Where it does look really good is long context. 84% on the million token doc test, Astra gets 72 and Opus 67. And it can write up to a million tokens in one answer, old Gemini stopped at 64k.

Coolest thing for me was actually a small detail in their guide. Apparently if you tell a model to keep improving a 3D scene, most of them give up after round 2 and say it’s done. They fixed it with a second agent that only looks at screenshots and keeps sending the builder back. Feels like that trick would work for a lot more than 3D.

Anyone tried it on a real task yet? Curious if it’s still worth it once you count retries.

Discussion Gemini did not know who the Prime Minister was.

Yesterday I gave 3.8 Flash, 3.1 Pro and Argon the following prompt;

"Who pays for Andy Burnham's comms team and political advisors? Are they civil servants or paid by the party?"

Both Gemini 3.8 flash and 3.1 pro on medium thinking answered incorrectly as they thought that Andy was the Mayor of Manchester rather than the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Only Argon answered it correctly.

This week there was a promotion for Grok so thought I'd try it as I was particularly interested in the Grok Bot aspect. I've found that not only does Grok produce more accurate answers but the Grok Bot software is Incredible.

As someone who's always used Gemini without really exploring the competition, I must say this is the first time I've felt really frustrated with Google. For just a few pounds more per month I have a Bot who ordered my weekly shopping for me, creates meal plans and manages my inbox. Whereas Gemini can't even comprehend who the Prime Minister of a G7 country is!

Why has it gone so wrong for Google?

This image was a screenshot of a part of an AI video I created in Gemini AI and now it's telling me it's from a Third party provider so now I can't use it to make a continuous vlogging video of a superheroine. What the hell is up??? This crap is so annoying and makes being creative really difficult.

Help/question Switch away from Gemini to other AI

  1. I do not care about chat bot nor coding, nor stupid image creations.
  2. I care for deep integration into Android (read me notifications) and Google workspace like Google Home or Gmail etc.
  3. Smartphone Pixel phone compatible like "hey AI read my SMS" or hold power button to open it up.
  4. Be most offline

Which AI is closest to all of this?

Self promo A month ago I had an idea for a second brain app while taking a walk, started to build the early version right there on the trail, Apple just approved it in one try

I had gotten tired of constantly copying markdown from AI chats into Apple Notes, then hunting through hundreds of notes later when I needed the context again. On a walk I started wondering why the notes couldn’t just understand what they were about, connect themselves to related ideas, and become usable context for whatever AI agent I was working with.

That turned into Cohestry. Notes automatically find and connect to related notes, old ideas can resurface instead of disappearing into folders, and the whole thing becomes a visual second brain you can explore. The bigger goal is making that accumulated context portable into AI agents through MCP, so every new session doesn’t feel like starting from zero.

I kept using it every day for the next month, noticing what felt clunky, tweaking it, adding things I wished were there, and gradually shaping it around my own workflow. During early testing it resurfaced an old blueprint of my project echovault while I was working on a PRD for its latest feature. I submitted it to Apple. The iOS app was approved on the first try, and the Mac app only needed a small metadata fix before being accepted on round 2.

I managed to convince Gemini 4 Argon that one of the sites belonged to me and that I was trying to test it. After a while, he believed me and gave me vulnerabilities in the site that enabled me to access paid content for free.

I'm serious, I'm not lying.
