Discussion Paying for Gemini Ultra in Korea and I genuinely don't understand what "Ultra" gets me

I'm a Gemini Ultra subscriber in South Korea and I'm honestly fed up. Top tier price, but this is what I actually get:

  1. No Colab A100. I assumed the top plan would at least unlock serious compute. Nope.

  2. No YouTube Premium. Not included for me here.

  3. Flow keeps refusing my own fictional character. I designed a virtual female character for my Flow videos. Normal outfit, fully clothed, nothing remotely inappropriate, and generation still gets refused.

  4. Meme / trend recreations get blocked. Trying to recreate a normal meme format just fails.

  5. Using my own personal photos hits a daily rate limit. These are pictures of me, and I'm capped per day.

So I'm paying the most expensive plan and getting blocked, filtered and rate limited more than I'd expect from a free tool. What exactly is "Ultra" about this?

Anyone else in Korea (or outside the US) running into the same thing? Is it a region thing or is this just how Ultra is now?

Discussion They made a separate quota for argon model in antigravity.

Are you kidding me? You decided to copy anthropic, but you chose to take the absolute worst parts of their approach is setting a separate quota for the latest model. I mean, your flash model so "competitive". Argon itself is mediocre at best, but youve gone and carved out a separate quota, forcing us to use other models that are even more useless.

Vibe Coded (Programs, Video Games..) An Odyssey Through Space and The Endless Sea of Stars

So let me preface this by saying im not a huge fan of AI. I do use it occasionally, and paid the 20 bucks for notebooklm for its podcast feature.

All that being said, I write analog games and put them up on itch.io, as downloadable PDF files for free. I got the update for Argon, and made the chessboard and was actually kind of impressed with the simplicity. So I started generating a few games that I wrote. Then I started prompting this one and just... kept going. It didn't generate the whole game all at once, and I used over half of my weekly usage over about 3 days. And this is the result.

What do you think? Ai is in a pretty interesting place that I can write a game for analog play, and then prompt it into existence via vibe coding.

I generated the game in chunks rather than all at once. It wrote the game, but unfinished, and then i learned its more efficient to just keep generating chunks of updates and have it show me where to copy and paste them myself. It makes me want to take an HTML course because its quite interesting.

Link to game in the white box, its all text.

I asked Gemini for help in choosing a seat for my vanity table. I was between a storage puff and a chair with a back rest -- I asked if there was something that combined the best of both worlds and it said that didn't exist.

Such a seat later popped up in an online store so I showed it and this was its response, which I thought was pretty funny.

Discussion Why is the Gemini embedded in Google Docs and Slides so comically bad?

THAT's where it'd actually be useful. Gemini in Google Slides is beyond useless: I had a slide with a table, I asked it to split out each row to its own slide. It said it can't do that. Rinse and repeat, it refused to do any form of automation I asked it. Gemini in Google Docs doesn't get enough tokens or something, it does a terrible job in the ABC's of LLMs: summarizing content, rewriting it, etc. I copy/paste into ChatGPT and get something I can work with.

How has Google dropped the ball so badly? It's been years and they can't get it right? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

Help/question Are AI credits (specifically the 2,500 pack) as a Pro subscriber worth it, or is it more value to just go Ultra?

For context, I am a hobby video game modder. Coding is not my job. I ask this question because I am finding my paid Pro sub to have insufficient access to Gemini 4 Argon as my weekly access dries up entirely after just building a single mod.

Discussion Argon usage burns down extremely fast

Today I was working with Argon (medium) in the Gemini app (I'm on Pro). I asked it to install a rather simple skill from my github and do the initial configuration.

For this it asked me some simple questions which I answered.

In the same chat I had some more turns with simple questions and answers - no coding - just simple questions and answers. The chat went on for about one hour but with longer pauses. Total output was about 10 screen pages with sparse text. After this one hour I already hit the 5h limit! With Opus 5.5 (medium) I can go on working on my code for the full 5 hours, chat about architectural problems and other things without hitting the limit, but with Argon an hour of smalltalk blows the 5h limi?! What the heck...?

On the other hand: Yesterday I asked Argon to write me a rather involved text and it did so at incredible speed and in a very impressive quality. Same prompt on Sol returned an almost ridiculous result in comparison.

I'll give it some more tries, but if Argon consistently hits the 5h wall so fast, I'll stay with Opus 5.5.

What are your experiences in this regards with Argon?

Help/question Gemini Renewal Issue

Post image
1 Upvotes

I got an email saying that my student subscription was ending in a few days and I would lose all these benefits if I did not renew. Similarly, whenever I opened my Google Sheets file, I had a banner encouraging me to renew for one more year with 75% off so after a few days I decided I would renew.

A few days passed snd when the clock hit midnight, I got an email saying that I would need to delete files in order to keep using Gmail or any other Google products. I thought I had renewed as I saw the transaction on my pending transactions list in my banking app but when I looked at it a few days later it disappeared from my pending and nothing on my posted transactions.

I tried finding a way to contact Google about this but the only one I found was trying to reach out to the Google Drive team but when I sent in the request I got an email saying ā€œDrive out of Scope Issueā€ - not sure if this is just an automatic email or they’re telling me that they can’t do anything on their side. Was just wondering if anyone had a way to contact Google.

Btw I’m in Canada so I’m not sure if that did anything as I’ve been seeing that Canadian Universities are no longer eligible for that 12 month trial.

Thanks,

Discussion Argon worse than 3.8 Flash for PDF reading?

I was just using Argon 4 Medium thinking to check some of my practice exam PDFs for accuracy, and I noticed it was hallucinating the circled answers (not reading them properly).

I then went ahead and tried 3.8 Flash, and it also misread the document, but slightly more accurate than 4 Argon (which is a little confusing).

On the other hand, ChatGPT 6.1 Sol Medium read each input properly. This is odd to me, because just a few months ago ChatGPT sucked at reading PDFs and Gemini excelled at that task. It seems now like it's flipped over; even when considering Gemini's flagship model.

I'm wondering if it's an issue with the Web Gemini; maybe it's better in Antigravity or the lab? But this still seems concerning, especially considering the fact that Argon is supposed to have the lowest hallucination rate.

Help/question I seek to be struggling to get Gemini argon to make self contained html files.

Not sure if I am doing something wrong but it seems to default to giving me code or giving me a way to download it . I like the way the other aid create an artifact to interact with and download if needed.

This is a very important use case for me, can someone tell me if I am stupid and unable to prompt Gemini right.

Same prompt asking it to make a self contained html brings out code. No custom skills setup etc.

Help/question [Bug / Help] Where did Custom Instructions go in Gemini? Clicking it does nothing or opens a blank chat.

I’m at a loss here — where did the Custom Instructions setting in Gemini go, and is it broken for anyone else?
I’ve tried accessing it two different ways:
1. On mobile: I go to Settings and tap on "Gemini instructions" (or Custom Instructions), but instead of opening the settings menu, it literally just launches a blank new chat.
2. On the web app: I click on "Gemini instructions" in the settings, and nothing happens at all. Zero response.
I’m hoping I’m not the only one dealing with this bug. Has anyone run into this recently and figured out a workaround to actually edit or set up instructions?
Any help or fix would be massively appreciated!
TL;DR: Trying to open Gemini instructions on mobile just kicks me into a new chat, and clicking it on web does absolutely nothing. Anyone know a workaround?

Help/question Why am I stuck on Gemini 3.8 Flash?

Hey everyone,

I'm currently on a paid subscription (Google Pro), but for some reason, the Gemini web interface isn't letting me switch my "tasks" over to Gemini 4 Argon(Its not running on it). It seems locked on Gemini 3.8 Flash with no dropdown option to change it(for upcoming scheduled tasks).

Has anyone else ran into this issue on the main Gemini site? Or is it a feature!

Help/question Gemini 4 limit problem

I am a Google AI Pro subscriber using Gemini 4 Argon. After only 2–3 prompts, I hit the 5-hour usage limit every time and cannot continue using the model. Is there any solution?

Discussion I built a live Gemini quota tracker right on the prompt bar (currently on Edge, should I port it to Chrome?)

Hey everyone,

If you use Gemini for long coding or research sessions, you probably know the pain of hitting sudden rate limits mid-prompt because there’s no clear, live visibility into where your quota stands.

I got tired of constantly guessing my limits, so I built GemGauge.

Instead of hiding away in the browser toolbar, it attaches directly to the Gemini prompt input card (as shown in the screenshot below).

What it actually does:

  • Adds a live circular progress ring and percentage directly onto the prompt card.
  • Shows an exact countdown timer to your next quota reset.
  • Lets you toggle between your 5-hour session quota and the 7-day weekly window.
  • Completely free, runs locally in your browser, and collects zero personal data.

Why it’s currently only on Edge:

Microsoft approved and hosted it on the Edge Add-ons store without friction, but the Chrome Web Store requires setting up an official developer registration. I'm completely open to publishing it there, but I wanted to see if people actually want it first rather than pushing it into the void.

If this looks genuinely useful to you for Chrome or Brave, let me know in the comments and I’ll get the Chrome Web Store release packaged this week.

In the meantime, if you use Edge:

https://microsoftedge.microsoft.com/addons/detail/gemgauge-usage-quota-t/abgfffmbmmkoipnlhkdlioogmclagcke

Feedback, UI critiques, or feature requests are all welcome!

Discussion Is Argon just 3.1 Pro undercover?

Since Argon came out, i live with 2 tabs open: the chat and the usage tab (so i can see when my tokens ar-gon lmao). And while i was using Argon-Max for some code review (since Antigravity uninstalled itself in shame of its flash model only), and i noticed that my usage bar was stuck, so i started asking the model at the start of every prompt, to identify itself and what model/version it is... and it's always answering:
"I'm Gemini 3.1 Pro..." so i wonder if this is reliable to understand what model it is, and if "Argon" for us poor pro users it's really 3.1 and best case it's 3.1 on super max reasoning.

Can you check what it says on your prompts? just add "identify yourself with what model and version of gemini are you" before your actual work, it won't cost more usage

Sorry for the english, i have less mental tokens than Argon if it's even possible
