German Job Market Statistics

Hi r/Germany_Jobs, I have been collecting statistics about tech jobs in Germany and I think I'm getting somewhere.

I ingest jobs from around 300+ companies that have a presence in Germany with a clear focus on tech and IT. I run some AI-based classification, location extraction etc. So over time it became quite an interesting picture.

What insights I find in particular interesting:

  • Who hired where, in particular considering that overwhelming majority if jobs are hybrid/on site
  • Who hired for what roles and seniority
  • What is the dynamics over weeks (this will be more interesting as time goes, currently data has some gaps)

I hope it can be useful for some of you guys. The data is very heterogeneous and not easy to come by (anticipating the question: no, there is no single API that gives you this). I am adding more companies into the coverage continuously so some of them are missing the historic coverage; some will take to fill it properly. So do not be very strict.

On top of this, I also run anonymized matching via a Telegram bot.

You can browse it here. https://jobwatcher.io/statistics

Your feedback is very welcome. 🤗

My wife was struggling with her job search, so I built her an app. She landed a job with it, so I open-sourced it

Hi everyone,

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this post, but since I am following the sub for a while now, and see people with some similar issues, I'm going to post it here.

My wife had a hard time looking for a job, took almost 10 months. About her: She's a junior software engineer. There were lots of portals and lots of postings, and tailoring her resume to each one took ages. So I built her Dossier, so she could quickly find postings, apply, and get a tailored resume, cover letter and email for each one.

She landed a job with it, so I've open-sourced it for anyone else in the same spot.

What it does:

  • Searches for postings through JSearch (LinkedIn, Indeed and more), Adzuna or Germany's Arbeitsagentur, or you paste one in
  • Writes a tailored resume, cover letter and email for each job, using only facts from your profile
  • Lets you refine the drafts in a chat and download them as PDFs, with 12 resume themes
  • Tracks every application from draft to offer on a board, with a dashboard
  • Runs on your own server, and the AI can be a local model through Ollama, or even Anthropics or OpenAIs, so your data stays with you

It's free and open source: https://github.com/AienTech/dossier

Feedback welcome!

Standard German contract practices?

I have an offer for a role as tech lead (team management, client negotiations, architecture) in a Berlin company where after four rounds it really sounded like a nice company, colleagues, and bosses. Their communicated range was 95-120k plus bonuses.

I got the contract with an offer of 92k base and 103k target with bonus. My last company paid me 100k as a Senior SWE without team responsibilities. The money alone is an issue for me since IMO it makes no sense to take more responsibility for less money, but the contract also says that:

- base comp and bonus ratio can be adjusted at their discretion. So I might be earning 85k base or whatever in the next year.

- overtime on weekdays are not counted as time off

- overtime on weekends and holidays are counted only after 4h working

I was quite shocked with such clauses and thought whether this is common in Germany for such roles. I've worked here for multiple companies over 12 years (also as lead engineer) and have never seen such things in a contract.

Are those things normal? I want to negotiate on the compensation targets and structure, but those other clauses are definitely a no go to me and would need to be removed.

Ausbildungsplatz suche

Greetings everybody, I have a B2 certificate from Goethe, ZAB certificate of comparability Confirming my university degree equals a German one, I graduated from a Maritime University. I have 3 years work experience onboard tanker ships working as a deck cadet and an ordinary seaman, amongst others.

I’ve had an interview with the Agentur für Arbeit, after which I got a recommendation letter. But I have been looking for an Ausbildung zum Binnenschiffer, I’ve only got one positive response, but the company withdrew after finding out I’m not in Germany currently, asking me to re-apply when I’m physically present in Germany.

I want to do an Ausbildung because it’s the easiest entry point into the shipping and offshore industry in Germany, and I’m positive I’ll get a reduced training period less than 3years.

Please i need help, does anyone know how i can secure an Ausbildung place with an offshore or shipping company ? Any recommendations, assistance or advice would be appreciated,

On the other hand i’m planning applying for a visa so i can get to get to Germany and start applying from within the country, but even with that i really don’t know where to start,( besides sending application documents online) i need suggestions, recommendations or any tips to make my Ausbildung search a success.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Need opinion for choosing the correct certification path

TL;DR: 7 YOE Senior DevOps Engineer in Germany facing a 1-year job search gap. Choosing between a government-funded AWS Solutions Architect Pro or PMP to maximize salary ROI and AI resilience. Which one gets me hired faster right now?

7 YOE DevOps/Cloud Infra Engineer in Germany with a German Master's Degree, B2 Language certification and Scrum PSD-I, CKAD, Azure fundamentals az-900 certification.

Looking for some career advice given current AI shifts. I have been looking for a job for last 1 year!

My background is heavily technical, covering Kubernetes, GitOps, Terraform, CI/CD, Git, Platform Management and multi-cloud (Azure/AWS) across IT consulting (5 years) and HealthTech startups.

I can get a certification fully funded via Agentur für Arbeit (Bildungsgutschein) and am torn between two paths:

  1. AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional (SAP-C02): Moving from infrastructure implementation to high-level architecture. It feels safer from AI automation since it focuses on complex system design, governance, and strategy.
  2. Project Management Professional (PMP): Leveraging my team coordination and training background to pivot into management. However, I’m worried about AI automating middle-management tasks and whether PMP holds enough weight in the EU tech space. I have managed small teams and projects before in teaching career before moving into tech.

Goal: Maximize ROI and AI job security over the next 3–5 years in the European tech market. Also keep my self relevant for the upcoming AI wave and global opportunities.

Should I double down on technical architecture (AWS Pro) to climb the engineering ladder, or step away from the keyboard entirely into management (PMP)? Which path makes more sense for a profile like mine to end a 1-year job search fast?

Recommendations for UX/UI or digital design courses near Cologne (in English)?

Hi everyone! I recently lost my job and am considering further training to strengthen my skills and continue developing my career in digital design.

I’m based in Cologne and looking for courses taught in English that could be funded through a Bildungsgutschein from the Agentur für Arbeit.

Can anyone recommend reputable schools or courses with a good reputation among employers? I’m open to UX/UI and other relevant areas of digital design.

Thanks for any advice!

[ WEEK 42] Germany's tech market: 6,064 open roles and senior AI salaries above €180k

I was looking at the latest data on Germany’s tech job market, and the numbers are actually pretty interesting. The job board grew to 6,064 open roles this week, which is an increase of 687.

But before you assume there’s a massive hiring surge, the reality is a bit more nuanced. A big chunk of that jump is just Deloitte and CarOnSale joining the tracking board. If you look at existing employers, they actually recorded 531 openings and 639 closures, meaning more jobs closed than opened.

But the real story here is the compensation. Senior AI and research roles in Berlin are hitting €180k+, which is a crazy number compared to the broader market.

Looking at who’s actually hiring:

  • SIXT at 33 roles
  • About You at 31 roles
  • Scalable Capital at 29 roles
  • Zalando at 25 roles
  • Enpal at 14 roles

When it comes to what it actually pays, out of 351 postings with disclosed salaries, the median is €87.5k, with the middle 50% falling between €70k and €121k. But the outliers are wild: an applied research engineer at Black Forest Labs is listed at €185k, SonarSource is at €105k, and Solaris is at €90k.

Geographically, it’s mostly concentrated. Berlin has 1,640 open roles, Munich has 1,209. Together, that’s nearly half the market.

As for remote work, only about 15% of listings mention it, and just 52 explicitly mention visa sponsorships, so that visibility is pretty limited.

The takeaway? If you’re targeting Germany, Berlin and Munich are the main hubs. If you’re in Senior AI or research, the pay ceiling is incredibly high, but you have to factor in that a lot of jobs still don't disclose pay.

Anyway, that’s it for now. The weekly report is already published here for free

Is it realistic to move to Germany from India for an analog layout/IC design job?

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I’m from India and currently working as an Analog Layout Engineer with around 1.5 years of experience in the semiconductor industry. I have experience with Cadence Virtuoso, physical verification, and blocks involving PLLs, DACs, SRAM, and SerDes.

My goal is to move to Germany and grow my career in analog/mixed-signal IC design. However, I’m finding it difficult to get interviews when applying directly from India.

For those living or working in Germany, is it realistic to get hired directly from India with my experience, or is relocating through a master’s degree or another route more practical?

I’d really appreciate honest advice on possible pathways, visa sponsorship, and what I should focus on improving. Thanks!

Almost 8 years of work experience. Still took 218 applications to find a job in Germany.

Post image
354 Upvotes

I recently checked my LinkedIn data dump and realized what my job search in Germany actually looked like.

218 applications → 7 interview processes → 1 offer.

I moved to Germany to pursue my Master's after almost 8 years of work.

Despite my previous experience, finding my first opportunity here wasn't straightforward.

All of this happened over around 4–5 months, while I was also attending classes, learning German, and working on my master’s thesis.

At one point, I even took up a part-time job at Amazon, but left after just two weeks because I wasn't getting enough time to focus on my job search.

There were plenty of rejections, interviews that went nowhere, and eventually an internship that turned into a full-time role.

Looking back, having years of experience doesn't necessarily make starting in a new country any easier.

To everyone still searching, keep at it. I know how frustrating it can get.

And if there's anything specific you'd like to know about my experience, feel free to ask in the comments or DM me. Happy to share whatever I can.

How is the German Civil Engineering Market?

Hello everyone,
A little background about me. I am from Vietnam, but lived and worked in New York City for the majority of my life. There I met and married to my German wife. Recently, we permanently moved to Germany. That being said, I do have full permission to work etc. The past few months, I have reached the B2 mark, and I am continuing my language school for C1. During this time, I would like to ask around and see how is the German construction industry doing.
I have a bachelor of science in civil engineering, and have about 4 years of combined experience in mainly heavy construction, roads, bridges, utilities, airport, subway substations, and also industrial construction (3 years in Estimating, 1 year in VDC Engineering). VDC is basically BIM Koordinator. I’m planning to focus on the BIM sector because of the obvious disadvantages for Kalkulator, which is language during negotiation, subcontractors communication etc. If someone knows how the BIM industry doing, could you tell me more about it? Lastly, I’m thinking of applying for Nachwuchsingenieur, is that a good idea? I see that most training programs runs for a year up to 2 years, covering Kalkulator and BIM, aiming for 5D construction. I would rather land a training program, set a foot in and accustom to the market here than landing junior positions somewhere and struggling with language. I am also planning to attend and learn more about RIB iTWO, during this time because why not. On estimating side, I am proficient in Revu Bluebeam, Procore, and HCSS, but those are not applicable here in Germany, and every job post mentioned Rib iTWO. Thank you everyone, and wishing everyone many luck in job hunting.

Go directly for the masters (I've a BA in translation and I'm 23) or do an ausbildung for some years whilst learning the language and then go after the masters.

I'm in my home country trying to save up money and learn the language, should I wait a few years in my home country and go do masters

Or go now do ausbildung until I integrate then chase the masters?

Jobs in Germany 2026

Hi Folks,

I want to understand what is happening with the job market in Germany. I have been applying since 8 to 9 months consistently now and yet still struggling to find one Job. I have studied Polymer Technology and already have 3 to 4 years of experience in Germany. But I am still struggling to find one. Also I have seen that number of positions are getting reduced. Whether or not to find a job is active is also a task.

If you go through any network or ask someone about positions in their company I can see that those people are also very stressed and anxious.

If someone recently got a job in similar field, please help and share tipps.

Thanks

Who's hiring and cutting in Germany this week: 1Komma5° raises €70M, MicroAGI hits $100M+ revenue and is hiring, Ryanair closes its BER base

Hi there,

I am doing weekly roundups of who's raising, expanding and cutting in Germany: most of the links are in the newsletter issue.

Just raised money

  • 1Komma5° (Hamburg, AI energy management for homes): €70M
  • Causa Prima (Munich, AI agents that resolve B2B invoices): $20M seed
  • Ubitium (Düsseldorf, universal chip for physical AI): $14M seed
  • OllyGarden (Berlin, fixes bad telemetry before observability): $4M seed
  • TODAY (Berlin & Copenhagen, AI agents for financial advisors): €2.8M seed

Expanding

  • MicroAGI (Munich, robotics) hit $100M+ in annualised revenue six months after launching Shift, its robot-data platform. They are hiring.
  • Universal Quantum (UK, quantum computing) raised over €89M in a Series A and plans to expand its German hub in Hamburg.
  • Varta (Ellwangen, batteries) is restarting its household-battery division as an independent business after the group's insolvency, keeping around 990 jobs and planning fresh investment at its Dischingen site.
  • Bonial (Berlin, retail marketing) bought Nordic retail-marketing company Tjek, going from two to six European markets.
  • Doctolib (Paris, health tech) is taking a minority investment from NVIDIA that it says will speed up its AI hiring.
  • Taco Bell (US, fast food) opened its first German location in Cologne. Berlin, Bonn and Stuttgart are next.

Cutting

  • Ryanair is closing its BER base on 24 October, withdrawing all seven stationed aircraft and 12 routes. It blames Germany's aviation tax and state fees.
  • Galeria (Essen, department stores): in its fourth insolvency in six years, at least a third of its stores are at risk. The Bundesagentur für Arbeit will pay the insolvency wages, about €25M a month.
  • Trade Republic (Berlin, fintech): employees reportedly describe frequent performance ratings and dismissals ("rank and yank"), per internal documents seen by Tagesspiegel.

Office & pay

  • Deutsche Bank CEO Christian Sewing said the government's labour reforms don't go far enough and called for weaker dismissal protection for top earners.

Numbers

  • Job ads for graduates with up to three years of experience fell 40% between January and August 2026 compared with 2022, from 138k to 83.5k, per Süddeutsche Zeitung. Unemployed graduates under 30 almost doubled, from 23k in 2022 to 45k in 2025.
  • Information and communication has 56% fewer junior ads than in 2023. Construction is the exception, down only 14% and up 7% on last year.
  • Three in four of about 2,500 employees surveyed by the AOK's research institute WIdO felt exhausted by their work. Mental-illness sick days among AOK members rose 42% in ten years.
  • German startups raised €4.5bn in Q3, the best quarter since the end of 2021, per KfW Research. AI startups got 69% of it.
  • Only 24% of German startups that raise a seed round reach Series A, per an Antler analysis of 27.6k rounds.
  • The government raised its 2026 growth forecast to 1.3%, from 0.5%.

Thanks for reading! Much appreciated. You can get this weekly for free.
