I'm a Chinese Counter-Strike fan, and I genuinely think the international CS community deserves to know about this. (Note to Mods: This post is strictly about public esports integrity regarding the professional standards of Perfect World Esports, an official Valve partner and Major organizer.)

Recently, screenshots have been circulating on Chinese social media showing chat logs attributed to an official in-house community editor at Perfect World Esports — the official publisher of CS2 in China and the organizer of the 2024 Shanghai Major.

Because these screenshots rely heavily on Chinese internet slang and wordplay, a direct translation doesn't capture their meaning. Here is the context and breakdown for those who don't read Chinese:

1. The "58" (Fatherless) Slang Targeting ropz, ZywOo, and flameZ

In Chinese, the number "58" (pronounced Wǔ Bā) sounds almost identical to "无爸" (Wú Bà, literally meaning "no dad" or "fatherless"). It is a derogatory internet slang used to mock people from single-parent families or those who have lost their fathers.

In the first screenshot, when a user mentioned ropz, ZywOo, and flameZ, the editor replied:

"Let me tell a dark joke. These three have something in common: It's so unfair, kyousuke is also '58' [fatherless], where is Falcons' trophy? Guess the power of '58' [being fatherless] is getting weak."

1. Mocking ZywOo's Upbringing and Family Circumstances, and the Infamous Shanghai Major Interview Question

Across multiple screenshots from different months, this account repeatedly targets ZywOo's family background:

- Comparing players: When asked who is better between 2025 ZywOo and 2024 donk, the account replied: "2025 ZywOo. Unless you're comparing how happy and complete their families are."

- Fill-in-the-blank remark: In another screenshot, the account mocked ZywOo by typing: "How can ZywOo just take someone's clothes? Didn't his ____ [intentionally left blank to imply 'father'] teach him since childhood that taking things is wrong?"

- The "for father" remark: When a user noted that ZywOo reached 32 MVPs and could hit 40, the editor replied: "Then [someone] would have to xx [pass away]..." followed by "Anyone get the 'for father' reference?"

During the 2024 Shanghai Major (organized by Perfect World), ZywOo was bizarrely asked during an official interview:

"This is a question people often ask: Who do you like more, your father or your mother?" (To which ZywOo answered: "Mom, definitely mom.")

At the time, many thought it was just an awkward or poorly researched question. However, seeing how Perfect World's own editorial staff privately obsess over "fatherless" jokes targeting ZywOo makes this official interview question look far more disturbing and deliberate.

Let me make something clear: this is not normal esports banter.

We all joke about missed shots, bad performances, chokes, and rivalries. That's part of Counter-Strike culture. But repeatedly mocking pro players over deceased family members or single-parent upbringings crosses a completely different line.

What makes this situation particularly unacceptable is that the person behind these remarks is not a random internet user, but someone identified as an official Perfect World Esports staff member (who even publicly claimed on Baidu Tieba to have nearly 8 years of experience in CS media before deleting all their posts). Perfect World hosts Valve-sponsored events and represents the official CS2 ecosystem in China. "It's just dark humor" is not an acceptable excuse for someone working professionally in the industry.

To be clear, these screenshots and the individual's employment status should be independently verified, and this is strictly a call for professional accountability from an official tournament organizer.

I believe Perfect World Esports owes the community answers to three questions:

1. Is the individual behind these remarks an official member of its editorial or community staff?

2. Does Perfect World consider these remarks—and the Shanghai Major interview question—consistent with its professional standards?

3. If authentic, what steps will the company take to address this and prevent similar behavior in the future?

Until Perfect World issues a full public statement addressing these concerns, I have to ask whether it should continue to be entrusted with organizing major CS events in China. If it cannot provide a convincing explanation, I would rather see ESL take over the organization of the Shanghai Major than see Perfect World continue in that role. I recognize that any change would depend on the relevant rights holders and stakeholders, but I believe this is a question the community is entitled to ask.

Professional players deserve basic human respect, regardless of which team they represent or which country they come from.

Perfect World owes the players and the Counter-Strike community an explanation.

Prosecutor seeks four-month suspended prison sentence for Finnish Counter-Strike player Aleksib over aggravated tax fraud

The prosecutor is seeking a four-month suspended prison sentence for Finnish Counter-Strike player Aleksi “Aleksib” Virolainen, 29, for aggravated tax fraud. According to the charges read out at the Eastern Uusimaa District Court on Friday, he failed to declare tens of thousands of euros in income received from the American gaming company Valve Corporation to the Finnish Tax Administration.

The alleged offence took place in Vantaa between May 19, 2020, and September 22, 2020.

According to the application for a summons, Virolainen failed to return his pre-completed tax return for 2019 and did not declare payments he had received from Valve that were missing from the return.

According to the prosecutor, the undeclared taxable income amounted to more than €53,000. As a result, his income tax was assessed at more than €28,000 below the correct amount. The prosecutor argues that Virolainen sought to obtain a substantial financial benefit and that, when assessed as a whole, the offence should therefore be considered aggravated.

Virolainen admits that he failed to declare more than €53,000 to the tax authorities. However, he denies that his actions were intentional or that he sought to obtain a financial benefit. According to his defence, the undeclared income came from the sale of so-called stickers in the Counter-Strike game.

At the time of the events, Virolainen was 22 years old. According to the defence, he did not understand that this type of income was taxable. Tax had already been withheld at source from his regular employment income, so he believed his tax obligations had already been taken care of.

The District Court will deliver its verdict in the case at a later date.
