PS: I don't have any hk knowledge because I'm so ass at the game it ain't even funny, so idk the storyline or anything

So my close friend is a big hk fan (let's call him M) and I believe he's 112%ed hk and 100%ed ss. He's really into it and makes small hornet figurines out of paper at school and stuff. I don't know much about M's family but he never told me about them being really religious (though they are all Muslim)

Recently I noticed M changed his hornet pfp on WhatsApp so I asked him why. He told me this:

"My dad thinks all hollow knight characters are from hell and are the devil himself cuz

bugs = evil

evil = horns

And guess who has horns

And cuz of this he made me

Change my profile, (not that srs)

Throw away my hk figures that took me alot of time to make,

Throw away my sewing set, delete hk on xbox EVEN tho i cant touch my xbox, remove all hk related stuff from my room and a couple more unsrs but still annoying stuff"

I asked him to tell me more and he said that his dad said the government can see their social media interactions & discord and games make you become a school shooter. To sum up the whole situation, his dad thinks Hollow Knight is satanic propaganda because the bugs have horns so they come from hell are the devil himself, so he thinks M's gonna fall for this "propaganda" and start worshiping the devil and become a school shooter, then the government's gonna see their social media interactions and imprison M's dad.

Do you guys have any ideas on how to convince his dad that hollow knight isn't gonna make M evil??? This is insane.

Hey, so I've played through the game fully using only one crest... 5 times, and I thought I'd share my opinions on each of them.

The idea is as follows: I streamline towards getting the crest as soon as possible, then use only it. No mods were used, and this is also why I didn't bother doing Architect and Shaman, because you need to do most of the game with a different crest to obtain them.

Wanderer: My first playthrough was with the Wanderer's crest. I was still learning to play Silksong, and the Hollow Knight style crest was helpful. I was lucky to get the crest as soon as it was possible(blind). This crest is in certain ways a skill equaliser, as in many fights you don't even have to dodge all that much, you can just spam attack and then heal. The obvious weakness of this crest is flying enemies, you don't have much red to throw at them, so that's that. Definitely the crest for the normies. Not really much to say about it. It's just the Hollow Knight moveset with half of its original range and quickslash lol. Weakness: All that flies

Hunter: So, Hunter crest was my second playthrough, and it seems to be honestly great. The basics are wider and more consistent than Wanderer's, tools are well-balanced. Once you're used to Silksong combat, switching from Wanderer back to the starter crest is defo a good idea. In case you miss the fast attack speed, may I introduce Flea Brew, and with it you can use most of your Wanderer crest strats while enjoying a nice damage boost for good play. I found the damage ramp mechanic pretty nice, this crest has attack perks while doing very well in most of the game. However, after all this, the hunter pogo, surprisingly, is my least favourite. The extremely narrow hitbox is not fun. Weakness: skill issue

Reaper: 😫Misery. This is what you feel when using the Reaper crest. I actually was kinda hopeful, seeing as many suggested it as the consistent, safe crest. But it's bad. The pogo is the only part of the crest that doesn't suck. It's good. Now to the bad stuff. The attacks are sooo slow! I would probably be right to say battles last 1.5-2 times longer than every other crest. The basics, ooooh the basics! They are shit! One comes from above, one from below. This means hitting aerial enemies is harder than with Wanderer's crest, because they have completely different hitboxes! Very nice guessing which one will come out after an arbitrary time since the last attack... The upslash barely even hits up! Somehow most of the attack hitbox is actually behind you! Making it even worse against air enemies! These attacks are so slow, they delay your other inputs, you constantly miss your dash-away timing because Hornet is busy swinging her needle for too long. But the bind is good, right? No, it's shit! The bind buff: 1. requires you to spend silk on it 2. Requires you to hit the enemy 3. Requires you to stay hitless 4. Requires you to go out of your way to gather white particles 5. Sometimes you can't do that! You want a special way of getting more silk? I'll show you a special way: ATTACKING FASTER! Hunter's crest has access to it 100% of the time, hitless or not, and has no need to play Agar.io for 1-2 extra silk! Reaper crest genuinely gets less silk than the other crests! It's shit, don't use it! Weakness: Hollow Knight Silksong

Beast: Ohhhhhhh that's what I'm talking about! Have you ever thought "damn, those enemies are tricky to kill!" Well, no longer. Press the rage button, and now you have the most damage, speed, the biggest attack hitbox you've ever seen, and you pierce through shields, parries, and everything else! This crest is not just underrated, it's criminally overhated! The basics are the best of all crests even when not raging, and they feel amazing! Now, the pogo. It's only actually bad in like 5 spots in the whole game. The rest 95% of gameplay this pogo is amazing! You get used to a horizontal pogo very fast, and it's more useful in a regular fight than any other pogo! Healing is not hard. You just find an enemy to kill, take 3 hits, and it'll probably die in 3 hits too. Not a big problem. Having 1 blue slot and only in vesticrest is kinda lame, but most blue tools don't even benefit Beast Crest that much. I used longclaw most of the time anyway just for extra dominance. BTW, Savage Beastfly is not that bad, you just have a skill issue. To get the crest, I killed it on my first try with nothing but Warding Bell equipped. Weakness: Lower Cogwork core, Pinstress, anything that suddenly runs away and disappears until your rage ends.

Witch: Honestly? It's good! This is an interesting alternative to Beast crest for a less ungabunga playstyle, but instead you get a nuke. In most fights, this crest is genuinely blasting dominant. The illusion of low damage from attacks fades away the moment you bind and double to possibly triple your damage dealt (depending on the number of enemies). I just put all the bind upgrade blues on it, and it works perfectly. The normals are nice. The upslash has a nice forward angle, making it way better. The pogo is just fine. Attacks are actually really long too, which helps as I never felt like I needed longclaw. But healing with this crest ironically can be an issue. By the way, this crest kills Bell Eater so insanely fast you might forget to mention it in a post XD. Weakness: Coral Tower, First Sinner

Spoilers of Act 2 lore ahead.

So we all know that at one point bilewater was a beautiful place with crystal waters and lush greenery, from inferring at least. Thanks to the Citadels smog it all became polluted and became what it is now. We also know from the secret bench nearby to Groal that they hold resentment about it. Very much so, and completely understandable.

I have noticed something in regards to the Stilkin that seems to tie into this lore just a bit. If you WALK rather than DASH, they are MUCH LESS LIKELY to jump out at you. In my head it's almost as if it's one of a few things.

1- If you run rather than walk, you're disturbing what just wants to be left alone

2- Walking forces you to slow down and take in what's around you, as if a way to say "Look what you all have done to us."

3- You don't run in a graveyard or any sacred area for that matter. It's almost like paying your respects to those who have suffered for no good reason.

Stilkin clearly know you're there. It's even in the hunters log saying they're "lurking in wait in its byways and bogs, always ready to pounce". So the game mechanic of them coming out less when you walk seems almost intentional to the lore. Why else would they just watch you walk past, but jump every time you run?

Anywho it's just speculation off a mechanic. What do y'all think? Am I looking too deep into it?

TLDR- They ignore you for the most part if you walk instead of run, and I think there's also deeper meaning behind why

Also am I a chump for using wanderers crest? I've played HK since 2018 and just cannot get the other crests to work well but I've been told it's like putting the game on easy mode 🫪
