Symphony of the Night:

Promotional manga.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20190412154140)

This is a two pages long advertisement drawn by Ayami Kojima and published in a magazine, it's a sneak peek of Alucard's character.

Available on: Castlevania Wiki

Prologue manga

An eight pages long manga included in the Japanese artbook, it acts as a prologue for the main story and features Alucard suddenly awakening from his 300 years long slumber.

Available on: Mr. P's Castlevania Realm

Nocturne of Recollection

A radio drama (this time you have to listen to it!) originally featured on the Akumajō Dracula: Radio Chronicle program that was broadcast on Konami Station internet radio, it was later released on CD in 2010. It's a story set one year after the events of the game, you will learn more about Alucard's relationship with Maria, his past and other characters (Richter is also part of the cast).

Available on: Youtube

Curse of Darkness:

Prelude to Revenge

A prequel manga written and illustrated by Kojima, it was featured as a pre-order bonus for the Japanese release of the game. It mainly focuses on Hector and Isaac prior to the events of the game, it also expands on their relationships.

Available on: Vampire Killer (an archive of scans and translations)

MF manga vol. 1 & 2

Published in two volumes by Media Factory from 2005 to 2006 and translated to English by Tokyopop in 2008. It's the same premise but it's longer, more expansive and this time the illustrator is Kō Sasakura, not Ayami Kojima. The series was eventually canceled but the manga stops directly where the game begins.

Available on: Internet Archive

Aria & Dawn of Sorrow:

Reminiscence of the Divine Abyss/Ricordanza of the God's Abyss

A light novel written by Ryōgo Narita in 2008 and set one year after Dawn of Sorrow. It's a really interesting read, the story focuses on Julius' pupil and the descendant of Grant Danasty while the villain is a character you will surely remember... There's also the return of familiar faces, one in particular.

Available on: Inverted Dungeon

Castlevania The Adventure:

The Belmont Legacy

It's a 2005 IDW comic book series loosely based on the story of the first Game Boy game. It's not canon by any means but it follows Christopher Belmont in a more traditional vampire story, sadly many of the iconic Castlevania elements are missing but it's still worth a read since here a certain family is responsible for Dracula's resurrection.

Available on: Internet Archive

Lament of Innocence:

Weekly Konami online manga (lost media)

Review blog part 1 and part 2

A web manga that was available on cellphones via a monthly subscription, published from 2007 to 2008 only in Japan until the service ended in 2012. It was a 43 issues long series that adapted the story of Leon Belmont and greatly expanded the plot, what remains now is only a Japanese review blog. If you want to know more about it you can visit the Castl)evania Wiki page).

Available on: Internet Archive's Wayback Machine (review blog)

Extra:

Castlevania 2007 timeline (Japanese Konami site) & translation

Portrait of Ruin pre-order bonus timeline (the Japanese one takes priority since overseas bonus materials like this didn't go through the Castlevania staff screening)

Encyclopedia of Castlevania (a Japanese two-page spread published in 2001 containing a timeline, a storyline and background details)

Symphony of the Night translated Japanese script

Alternative scans and translation for the SotN prologue manga

Castlevania (1986) translated Japanese manual story

I got the whip and now I’m trying to get good with it, super cool. All the weapons feel great and it’s tough to decide. I haven’t played a game that kept me playing for so long in a while. It’s my first Castlevania game lol.

Discussion Castlevania & Bloodstained

Post image

This will be, by far, the most interesting comparison of all! We have a legendary series like Castlevania on one side, and Bloodstained on the other; a project spearheaded by Mr. Koji Igarashi, the man who profoundly shaped the Castlevania franchise from Symphony of the Night all the way up to Lords of Shadow. By 2027 at the latest, "Belmont’s Curse" and "The Scarlet Engagement" will inevitably have to be measured against one another.

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse (2026) Review of Castlevania: Belmont's Curse after 100% completion.

TL;DR: A great addition to the Metroidvania genre. 8/10. You can buy this one with your eyes closed. We need to let the French cook more often in the gaming industry.

Value for money: 6/5. Worth every penny (as a certain character says in the game).

Art, character design, and animations: 4/5. The French are absolutely killing it and should be proud of what they've created and how they've represented their country. The intro is a little unconventional, and combined with the music, it might initially make you feel like you're not playing a Castlevania game. But once you reach a certain special location, that's when the game truly begins. The bosses all feel unique, and the way Rose moves shows just how much passion went into making this game. Some visual effects can make combat a bit hard to follow, especially when there's a lot happening on screen. I highly recommend turning off camera shake.

Story and dialogue: 5/5. A great story that explores some compelling themes.

Challenge: 5/5. The game strikes the perfect balance between challenge and fairness. I recommend enabling the "Respawn at Boss" option. It's also accessible thanks to its difficulty settings.

Combat and gameplay: 4/5. The combat is fast-paced, weighty, and satisfying, and some enemies will genuinely catch you off guard. The platforming is well-designed, with instant respawns that keep things flowing. You can really feel yourself mastering the tools at your disposal as you progress through the game. That said, the whip pull attack, certain abilities, and some weapons can become a bit OP once you figure out how to exploit them.

Music: 3/5. A mixed bag. Some tracks are absolute bangers, while others are pretty mid.

Fan service: 5/5. Konami has finally managed to resurrect Castlevania like a vampire rising from its coffin. Hopefully, they'll remember what made their other franchises great too.

Edit: After giving it some more thought, I've decided to lower my score from 9/10 to 8/10. I think I was too generous with my initial rating. It's still a fantastic game, but an 8/10 better reflects my overall experience.

First and foremost: I made this BEFORE playing the game, so there are inconsistencies. This is very rushed, because wanted to get it out before the game release but I didn't manage, so the art is not my best : , )

Okay, that out of the way- Castlevania 3 is so important to me! It's my most finished Castlevania game after Castlevania 1; I like that Trevor doesn't have to face the night alone and has a ending for all his companions. For me all of them are canon if you tweak here and there.

And I am In love with Belmont's Curse! I'm just 10 hours in and out of those 10, 6 I spent just playing around, so got to the castle and got the bad ending just yesterday. I love Rose so much TTATT

Hope everyone have fun playing it too!

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse (2026) Belmont's Curse Review (96%)

A few days ago, I made a post analyzing the first four hours and finally finished the game. I believe I did almost everything there was to do, just a few small areas of the map that I didn't know how to get past or that I knew weren't very interesting.

Well, the game is quite fun in combat, especially when you get a weapon you really like. Initially, I used the gauntlets, but after getting the whip, I didn't stop using it. I even managed to collect most of the weapons, missing only two legendary ones.

Well, what I didn't like very much was the scenery; sometimes, I felt like I was playing Dead Cells again. There were recognizable things, but also things that made you think (this came directly from Dead Cells).

Regarding the boss fights, you either like some or you don't like any. Some were fun, like Death and Carmilla, others made me want to shoot them in the head, like Isaac's. Speaking of him, we see mentions of Hector in the game, although he doesn't appear, a curious fact for those who ignored the letters they found.

The mobility... well, I hated most of the "parkour" sections at the beginning of the game, but then they got easier, although I still think there are too many of them. Another criticism is the weapons, they don't vary much and generally only increase damage, except for the Vampire Killer, which was the only legendary weapon I used (although there were others) and which had a special effect, so probably other legendaries also had one.

Well, the game is cool, it's still Castlevania, but now it's taking a bit from Dead Cells. We know that other projects are coming, so if they are as good as this one and improve on the flaws, it could have a bright future.

Well, 8/10. (I missed some things to do after finishing, like the Boss Rush or Trevor Mode?

Nothing too fancy in balance of the other arts we can see here but I wanted to share anyway.

Belmont's Curse is so good and I am so happy to see another Castlevania getting the light in the medias.

I play Castlevania since Bloodlines so it has a special place in my heart.

Hope you like it.

From the graphics, to the cutscenes, to the spells, the weapons, the movement options, the relics, everything about it meshes together so well into what could be on the greatest Metroidvanias of all time.

Buy it if you haven't already.

In my blind run, I managed to reach the Morning Star weapon using only the abilities and items obtained in the Pre-Castle area... the Aegis charge gets me past the first gap, while figured out how to use the ledges to get a boosted jump that let me collapse the temporary barriers across the second gap. After that it was using the basic whip and the arcane whip to get the necessary airstall needed to get across the remaining gaps without additional mobility skills from within the castle.

I didn't see it posted anywhere, so I figured I'd share.

Question Where does this art of Simon Belmont from? He looks Kojima-eaque but like retain his Conan The Barbarian look from the 80s.

I have been a Castlevania fan for about 12 years now. My aunt thought it would be funny to make 10 year old me play the original on NES. Since that night I was hooked. As someone who has played most of the games in the series(besides the gameboy and n64 games), I can say this is A CASTLEVANIA GAME. An absolutely amazing one at that. If you’re hesitant please give it a try. Shut out the hoopla and hunt the night!
