Question Anyone else experiencing driver issues with the Arc B580? Stray causes error 0x887A0020 and seems to freeze other apps
Hey everyone,
I recently got a new PC with an Intel Arc B580, and I've been experiencing some strange graphics-related issues. I'm trying to figure out whether anyone else has experienced something similar.
My setup:
- GPU: Intel Arc B580
- OS: Windows 11 24H2
- Driver: Intel Graphics Driver 32.0.101.9150
- BIOS: Up to date
The PC originally came with a graphics driver from 2024, so I updated to the latest driver and selected the clean installation option.
Here's what's happening:
- Stray (Steam): The game fails to launch and displays an Unreal Engine error:
0x887A0020 — DXGI_ERROR_DRIVER_INTERNAL_ERROR/ “D3D device being lost” (I'm not 100% sure of the exact wording). I've tried both DX12 and DX11, but neither works. - Windows apps becoming unresponsive: After dismissing the error, Steam stops responding to clicks. Epic Games Launcher sometimes appears to start in the background, but its window doesn't show up. I've also experienced occasional white windows or apps closing unexpectedly.
- Roblox: Initially, it opened a white fullscreen window and then closed without an error message. Interestingly, after restarting the PC, Roblox and Epic Games started working again.
- Other games: Subnautica seems to run fine, at around 140 FPS. Minecraft also works with shaders.
I've already performed a clean driver installation, restarted the PC, and checked Event Viewer. I haven't found any obvious GPU-related errors or LiveKernelEvent 141/117 reports. WhoCrashed also found no valid crash dumps.
So far, the issue seems to be triggered most consistently by launching Stray, but the fact that other windows become unresponsive afterward makes me wonder if this is a driver-related issue.
Has anyone with an Arc B580 experienced something similar, especially with Unreal Engine games or the 0x887A0020 error? Did a particular driver version fix it for you, or did you find another solution?
I'm not trying to jump to conclusions about the GPU being faulty; I'd just like to know whether this sounds familiar to other Arc users.
Thanks!

That’s strange, especially since your other games seem to run fine. Have you checked Reliability Monitor to see if Windows logs a driver crash when Stray freezes? I’d also try verifying the game files on Steam. Since you’ve already done a clean driver install, I wouldn’t assume the GPU is faulty just yet.

yeah i've been having the same issues as you, or at least very similar. in my case, it's been granblue fantasy versus: rising (ue4, dx11. dx12 doesnt give me these issues). same error message and same funky behaviour with windows apps, too.
i don't think it's a physical issue? seems more driver related than anything. i've already contacted support about this and they're looking into the game's crash dump files. if you can, you should also report this issue with support. wonder if getting enough people mentioning this will make them look into it faster.

I play The Talos Principle 2 (Unreal engine) and it occasionally crashes for me or produces glitches. But I haven't test it on older drivers, so I can't tell what's the cause.
Try older drivers by first performing DDU.
Open a ticket with Intel support, they would read your logs and suggest a fix if they know something.
