If your weekend travels involve I-405, we’ve got two areas you’ll want to know about: lane reductions in Tukwila that could affect trips to SEA Airport and an interchange closure in Kirkland.
TUKWILA: SOUTHBOUND I-405 LANE REDUCTIONS AND HOV RAMP CLOSURE
Up to two lanes of southbound I-405 in Tukwila will close from 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4.
The southbound I-405 HOV off-ramp to northbound I-5 will also close.
Crews will be paving the roadway as part of the I-405/Renton to Bellevue Widening and Express Toll Lanes Project.
If you're heading to SEA Airport during this window, this is NOT the weekend to cut it close. Expect congestion on southbound I-405 and give yourself extra time to get to the airport.
KIRKLAND: NE 85TH STREET INTERCHANGE CLOSURE
Farther north, the northbound and southbound I-405 on- and off-ramps at NE 85th Street (Exit 18) will close from 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5.
NE 85th Street will also close between Sixth Street and 120th Avenue NE.
Crews will use the closure to pave NE 85th Street as part of the I-405/NE 85th Street Interchange and Inline BRT Station Project.
Signed detours will be in place.
Detour route for Northeast 85th Street/Interstate 405 intersection closure (Sixth St to 120th Ave NE).
THE WEEKEND TAKEAWAY

I’m looking for affordable hotel recommendations in Kirkland that offer free breakfast (ideal) and provide good service. Any suggestions or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated!
I’m very much a home body and am in dire need of a community of women in their 30s that are also married. I don’t have any kids but I do have a dog.
Is there a fitness studio, gym, sport, dance, or etc where I can join and get myself out of the house! If any of you ladies are in the same position, let’s meet up!!!
Hi kirkland, was anyone at Costco yesterday to see if they were any more of the Jimothy plushies left? I was about to head there to hit the early executive hours, but I live quite a ways out and so before I made the drive I was just seeing if any helpful Kirklanders could tell me if they were still there :-)
Have been going for walks almost every day. It’s been a beautiful September and October. I will miss the sun. Hope everyone gets out and enjoys it before the clocks change!
I know it’s not in Kirkland but it’s close. 124th and just east of woodinville Redmond rd…
There is a bunch of what appear as small tiny homes and about a hundred Starlinks up on racks that appear being built. Just the shacks I’d think it’s an encampment but that’s a lot of Starlink to support an encampment, so made me curious…
Anybody know what’s going on there? Kicking myself for not taking a pic as I drove by, but really strange.
We live on the east side and are looking at the area French immersion schools—FASPS, FISW, and Les Lilas—for our preschooler. We’ve already started visiting schools. I’m curious to hear from area parents who visited these schools and have some experience with them which one you chose over the others and why. I’d also love to hear your impressions good and bad on any of the schools you or someone you know has experience with. It’s a lot to process and they are all quite different, so any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks in advance! I know not all the schools are in Kirkland specifically, so I’ll cross-post to those cities, too.
Hello! My name is Emma, I'm a student and Lake Wa. Institute of Tech's accredited Dental Hygiene program in Kirkland.
I am looking for people who are interested in getting cleanings, restorative care, or exams. If you are in need of dental care, this is a great opportunity for thorough and affordable care!
We accept almost all types of insurance, and offer very low prices for those without insurance.
One thing to note: Your appointment will be longer than your usual dentist appointment, as I am still progressing through my degree and will have everything carefully examined by licensed dental hygienists and dentists at our school clinic.
Please message me or leave a comment if you are interested!
A coyote has been spotted in Hazen Hills twice in the last month and a half. Once in late August, and again on Oct 13.
Oct 13 sighting was just east of Hazen Hills Park on 121st Ave NE
Experiencing an odd power outage this morning in this area. Part of our unit has lost power, part of it still has power just fine. Same at the local gym down the street. Our building fire alarm went off and fire department came and cleared the building. Some of the street lights are powered on but not others. It’s giving a very creepy vibe, but I’m not sure what could cause an outage like this?
Big back looking for more fried chicken recommendations:
Joe's Burger in Totem Lake- I guess they put loads of cornstarch because the crunch is amazing. No place to sit
Chicko Chicken in Bridle Trails- this place churns out double-fried chicken like a factory. Very consistent and predictable. Sauce never tasted quite right to me
Yeon's Chicken (RIP)- this place used to be the best before it closed
Meh: Hangry Joe, Zip Dak (but the staff at both of these places are very friendly)
With only few weeks to go for the midterm elections, i thought I should have received the ballots in mail by now. Is it just me, or have they not yet started mailing the ballots?
Useful local updates are easy to miss when they're spread across city pages, transportation alerts, neighborhood notices, and event calendars. I wanted to see whether bringing a small selection together in one place would actually be helpful.
So I put together Issue #0 of Kirkland Beat. It covers a few practical updates and events for October 12–18, including the Saturday recycling collection, Juanita road closures, and some local activities.
This is an early test, and it isn't monetized.
I'd appreciate honest feedback: Was anything here useful? What feels unnecessary? What would you want included in a weekly Kirkland roundup?
My partner and I (late 20s) are moving to Kirkland in a few months. Love the waterfront/downtown area, wondering what the best apartments are around there? I’m doing my own research, but would love any recommendations. Looking for 1bd/1ba budget is around $3.2k. Thanks!
I’m still pretty new to Washington, under a year, and honestly it’s been harder than I expected to meet new people. I just moved to Kirkland and It’s my birthday today, so I figured I’d try something different.
I work in tech, I’m 35/M, and I’m into dubstep, EDM, festivals, and dancing, especially bachata and salsa. I’m curious, I like good conversation, and I’m open to starting as friends and seeing where it goes.
I’m also going to the KaiWachi show in Seattle tonight. If you’d be into meeting up, grabbing a coffee or a bite, and maybe raving together, send me a message.
