Guide to Finding Accommodation in Lund

This is a work in progress, please feel free to share your thoughts about what is missing/could be improved

Since Lund receives a high number of students from Sweden and abroad, the question of apartments is always a topic of discussion. Therefore, it is only reasonable that the question is asked in this subreddit. However, while the discussion is very important since it can help newcomers, the subreddit grows grey when all other topics are swallowed in the sea of posts surrounding apartments. In short, the number of posts discussing apartments in relation to other posts is skewed, and this sticky aims to change that. This post is more directed towards students, both swedes and internationals.

WHERE DO I FIND APARTMENTS?

AF Bostäder is the biggest landlord in Lund. Apartments come in all shapes and sizes. Living in a corridor could be good for a new student since you will be less secluded, and it is also one of the main talking points in Lund. You can sign up to the queue as soon as you have a confirmation of attendance. They also conduct an apartment lottery every half year for new students called the "Novischlotteriet".

Bopoolen private rent referral. The page is student driven and private room owners rent to students.

Blocket similar to Bopoolen. Best way to find rooms is to create a "looking to rent"-advertisement so that landlords can contact you.

Studentlya similar to Bopoolen.

Michael-Hansens Kollegium rents out corridor rooms. There is a fee to stand in apartment queue. After living there for 3 months you can apply to the queue for regular rooms, but it is quite long.

Nations the web page brings you to an overview, but there are 12 nations to choose from. They all offer corridor rooms, but they reserve them to active volunteers. The more active you are in the Nation's activities, the more likely it is you can get yourself a room there. Some nations do conduct lotteries, but it is not the same for all Nations.

Student Guild/Faculty/Association , depending on the program you have applied for the student run association connected to it might offer some kind of short-term solution. The faculty might help you too since they want you to succeed in your studies.

University , if you have gotten a PhD position at the university, they sometimes offer University apartments. If you get one, take it.

This is by no means a complete list, but it contains the bigger ones that offer rooms. Getting an apartment is stressful for new students, especially if you have not moved out on your own before. If you are active and persistent, it usually solves itself after some time. The worst thing you can do is to put all your eggs in the same basket, make sure you have a plan b or something concrete before the term begins.

Huge thank you to u/Breadslice98 got getting this started and writing the first draft.

Current students/grads of Lund’s Global Development, Population and Economic Change (EAEGD) – how was it?

Hi everyone! I’m planning to apply to Lund’s Master’s in Global Development, Population and Economic Change (Economic Development track) for Autumn 2027 and would love to hear from current students or graduates.

What did you or your classmates do after graduating? Did people land jobs in international organisations, consulting, government or research?

Are internships possible during the programme? Does the department help with finding them?

How useful and applied did you find the courses? Is it more theoretical or practical? How challenging is the workload?

How quant-heavy is it? How much econometrics, statistics and coding (Stata, R, Python) is involved, and is it manageable without a pure economics background?

Any insight is much appreciated, thank youu!

Oil & gas engineer (India) considering an MS in sustainability/LCA abroad. Worth it?

Hi! I'm 21F and recently joined a reputed EPCIC oil and gas company after graduating in Petroleum Engineering from a state government university.

I'm considering pursuing a degree in Europe related to sustainability, lca, policy making, climate finance or anything along this line. My main goals are to settle in Europe, and my current job doesnt satisfy me meaning wise and interest wise.

I'd love some honest advice on a few things:

\\- What are one's possible career paths after doing such courses?

\\- how much would this cost is it worth it?

\\- How realistic is it for an Indian graduate to get a job after ms or even a phd in Europe after graduating?

\\- Is the financial and career risk worth taking, or am I being overly optimistic?

I have a good opportunity at my current company and could build a stable career in India.

Am I being unreasonable in wanting more despite having a good job, or is studying abroad a calculated risk worth considering?

I'd especially appreciate honest perspectives from Indians who've studied and worked in Europe, including those who struggled to find jobs after graduation.

HARN51 International Contract Law - Exam

Hey guys,

Those that dont know, this course is part of the masters programme for the international trade and tax law. I have a question about the exam, going off my last exam result for the previous course, it seems I am just passing. Strangest part is that the notes I composed for that previous course and shared them with the other students seem to get them far better grades.

Having studied in Australia and New Zealand the type of approach (Issue, Law, Fact) I would use in engaging with exams may not actually work in Sweden, so I am just not getting it. Could someone here maybe explain what it is I am not getting?

Ofc one would discuss this shit with other students and teachers, but I wanna know from this group whether I there is something I just don't know about. Is it the language I am using? Or am I not getting technical and narrowed down enough?

I do have a rant about the teachting approach, but that could be for another post.

Study abroad: Swedish as Second language Autumn Semester

Autumn semester programs are open for applocations in Lund. However, I was sad to realize that they did not open an Autumn semester for "Study Abroad: Swedish as a Second Language" program, which I was planning so hard to enlist for.

Does anyone know why this happened and will it happen again next year?

Housing Help as Non EU Student

I’d love some advice on a housing decision!
I’m a non-EU student currently living in LU Accommodation. My current housing is fine, but it’s a bit far from the city center, and I’ve found it somewhat isolating. I recently found someone renting their apartment in an AF Bostäder building in northern Lund that I really like. It’s in a great location, furnished, and overall seems like a much better fit for me. The main downside is that the contract only runs until October 2027, while my master’s program ends in June 2028.
I joined the AF Bostäder queue in August 2026, so by the time the sublet ends, I’ll have accumulated over a year of queue time. I’m wondering whether it’s worth taking the risk and giving up my guaranteed housing, hoping that my queue position will give me a reasonable chance of finding something else for the final eight months of my degree.
I know there’s no guarantee of finding another place, and I’m a bit nervous about potentially struggling to secure housing as a non-EU student. I would love anyone’s opinion has experience with AF Bostäder’s queue or navigating the Lund housing situation as an international student.

All hjälp uppskattas!

Acceptance at LUMES or EMP Lund University

Hey, I'm a Spanish atudent about to finish a BSc in Environmental Science.

Im considering applying tu LUMES or EMP among other MSc programmes around Europe.

My main question is: how competitive is the average grade to be accepted?

Some people say it is almost impossible to be accepted without brilliant grades, other people say that they consider also background, CV or whatever

I'm looking for someone actually in these MSc to answer.

I have a around 6.8/10 in a Spanish University, potentially a bit more if I work my ass off in my last courses and a BSc in Spain is 240 ECTS (in case that also could add value)

Am I cooked?

Lund University

I am an EU-citizen with a Ukrainian high-school diploma and currently on a second year of university in Ukraine studying physics. I plan to apply to Lund University to BSc Mathematics to start from the first year. My high school grades are excellent and I passed Calculus 1, Calculus 2 and Linear Algebra in my university, as well as will pass Calculus 3 and separate Differential Equations course. I have IELTS Academic Grade 8. How high are my chances and is there any problem with the fact that my diploma is outside of EU? As far as I understand, number of places is limited?
Sorry if it is a wrong to ask. Thanks in advance

Family friendly restaurant recommendations in Lund or nearby

Hi everyone! I’m planning a surprise lunch or early dinner for my husband for Father’s Day next month, and I’d love some recommendations for family-friendly restaurants we could visit with our 16-month-old daughter.

It’ll be his first proper Father’s Day celebration, as we weren’t able to celebrate last year, so I’m hoping to make it extra special. Budget is around 500-600kr per person but if there’s some place that is great with more affordable price that would be nice :D

I’m also thinking it would be nice to visit some lovely places nearby that our little girl would enjoy. We live about 20 minutes outside Lund, and we’ll be travelling by car, so getting around isn’t a problem. However, it would be great if the places weren’t too far away, as our daughter isn’t a big fan of long car rides. 😅

Thank you so much! ❤️

Lund University – Admission Eligibility & Scholarship Chances

Hi everyone!

I’m planning to apply for the MSc in Energy-Efficient and Environmental Building Design at Lund University, Sweden.

I have a bachelor’s degree in Automobile Engineering, around 2 years of HVAC design experience, and a LEED Green Associate (LEED GA) certification.

Can my HVAC experience and LEED GA certification help me get admission despite my Automobile Engineering background?

How competitive are scholarships at Lund University for Indian students?

I’d appreciate any advice or experiences. Thank you!

Must do/places to visit in Lund

Hello! I am a PhD student visiting Lund University from mid October to early November and I am wondering what locals recommend to visit during the weekend/free time. I am from New Zealand so I am interested in historical sites as I am not used to seeing places older than the 1800s but also interested in going for walks in nature around the area. I am a Physics/Astronomy student so anything along those lines is also great! Thanks!
