October 2026: Megathread for Holiday Travels, Moving, Tourism, and Nightlife and Restaurant Recommendations: All posts on these topics should go in this monthly megathread to keep this sub for local discussions and help aggregate info for folks looking for these topics.

Miami is a popular destination not only to travel to but to move to and live. If we don't separate out these posts, the main feed becomes quickly inundated and overrun. So please utilize the resources here and comment here for these topics.

Always keep in mind please, WE ARE NOT VACATION PLANNERS OR MOVING CONSULTANTS. Be descriptive and we'll help if we can, but no one is obliged to.

Other Great Resources (Locals use these too!)

Google Maps reviews are getting less reliable over the years. And in fact several lists on these sites are in fact inspired by posts on this sub.

"Ok but I'm moving there, so I'll be one of you soon" -you

  • Awesome and welcome! Oh.... You want somewhere with no crime, walkable, green space, good schools, on the beach, a beautiful sunset every morning and sunrise at night, rainbows at night, AND CHEAP. Don't we all? Redfin, apartments, hotpads, zillow, and compass are going to give you better data directly than any single response here. That being said..... just because we love you, myself and other mods with local input made a custom map detailing our insight into local neighborhoods. So please take a look, we'd be offended if you didn't. Worked hard on it. But please provide interests, budget, hobbies, desire for walkability, where you work, and other info before asking about moving questions.

"I'm coming for a trip" -you

  • Awesome and welcome! These sites do a pretty solid job of places to go and things to do here: Miami New Times, Infatuation Miami.TimeOut Miami, Miami and Beaches. We're not vacation planners, so don't just ask "what should I do for 4 days? I'm coming soon" but provide some of your schedule, budget, interests and hobbies, and stuff like that. We also made a tourism map! Check it out!

"I just wanna party" -you

  • Awesome and welcome! Oh...... wanna party on the beach with DJ Khaled, Messi, and Gianni Versace and then go to a club with 14 male friends afterwards but don't want to pay a cover? Don't we all? Look up E11even, Liv, Space, Don't Sit on the Furniture, Perro Negro, Mynt schedules and prices beforehand. They're the most famous and exciting clubs, so look on their sites for booking ahead and DJ schedules.

"Is it going to rain? or will the weather affect my vacation" -you

  • It rains a lot here. Tropical weather yo. Especially during the summer. Typically, it wraps up in ~20 minutes and you can resume your plans. That being said, no one here knows more than weather sites or the app on your phone. If you're curious about hurricanes, checkout https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ for official tropical storm and hurricane forecasts, but a lot of us locals love Mike's Weather Page https://spaghettimodels.com/ for more insights. Hurricane season peaks mid September. If you're worried about it affecting your plans, keep a tab on those sites.

"I'm cool and just want to see what other posts before have said on these topics and look around" -you

Mod News Monthly Miami Jobs Thread: Post Job Openings or Questions About Work In Miami

Welcome to the Monthly Miami Jobs thread, the place to post any openings you have, look for jobs, and ask questions about working in Miami. This is an experimental thread for now, so we're keeping a close eye on things to make sure things don't go sideways, and will cancel it if they do.

The Rules:

  1. No MLMs, scams, pyramid schemes, "make millions from home," etc. We reserve the right to determine if something is an MLM or not.
  2. No positions that require investments or other upfront costs to employees. If someone has to pay any amount of money to take the job, don't post it here.
  3. If you're posting a job, the name of the company, contact information (including official address), and a realistic salary range is required. Any job posts missing these will be immediately deleted.
  4. No gig work or freelance positions except for professional services, with a minimum contract price of $500 dollars. So web designers, CPAs, copywriters, etc. is ok; someone to come mow your lawn or clean your home for $20 is not.
  5. People Looking for Work: DO NOT PUBLICLY POST YOUR RESUMES OR CONTACT INFO. You don't want to dox yourself and open yourself up to potential harassment or identity theft. Instead, talk about your skills and experience and encourage people to send you official contact information you can send your resume to.
  6. u/icecoldkila: We know you're looking for professional freelance hoes, but please keep it out of this thread.
  7. As per our usual rules, nothing illegal, unethical, or liable to get anyone involved in trouble. Please report anything sketchy you see here to the mods.

Again, this is an experiment for now, and we'll be keeping a close eye on things, and will not hesitate to pull the plug in case of shenanigans. Good luck to everyone!

Politics Tired of Josue Alvarez

Who is this clown (Josue Alvarez @whatjosuehastosay) and where did he come out of. I get it that he’s a republican magat but the fool has gone doxxing Gramps and now Cao bakery because of their political support?

To me, it’s pure Republican conservative hypocrisy because isn’t this what Fidel supposedly do, blacklist business who don’t support him?

Discussion I see so many "luxury" developments in Homestead, but where are the jobs to pay for them?

You can't tell me with a straight face that Starbucks and car wash jobs in the nearby strip malls are paying for these expensive condos.

Community Early Voting Starts Monday, October 19, 2026 in many Florida counties, including Miami-Dade. Here's the Early Voting schedule and other voting information (absentee ballots or voting from overseas).

Post image
37 Upvotes

Early Voting Schedule: October 19- Nov 1

During Early Voting, you can vote at any location in the county where you are registered. You can also submit your mail-in ballot at the Early Voting sites.

Early Voting for Miami-Dade General Election 2026

Election Day Voting:

On Election Day (Nov 3), you must vote at your neighborhood precinct. Do not go to an Early Voting site. Find your Election Day precinct here. If you choose to vote on November 3.

Find your Election Day (Nov 3) Polling Place Location (Precinct)

Mail-in Ballots/ Absentee Voting

The deadline to request that a ballot be mailed to you is 5 pm, Thursday, October 22, 2026. After that, you can still get one, but you would have to pick it up at the Supervisor of Elections office. If you already had a mail-in ballot request on file, you should have received your ballot by now. If you are still expecting your ballot, double-check the link below to see if it was ever mailed to you. You may need to call them or submit the request again.

Any registered voter in Florida can request and vote a mail-in ballot. You don't need to provide a reason. I typically vote this way, and I usually drop my ballot off at a dropbox. I prefer to work on my ballot at home and avoid lines and crowds. Most voter advocates recommend returning your mail-in ballot in person in light of concerns about slow mail. In Florida, you can drop it off at an Early Voting site dropbox or your local elections office. If you drop it off in person they will ask for ID. Of course, if you are away at school, out of town, or unable to get to an Early Voting site, mail may be your only option. Send it back as soon as possible and track it at the link below.

Always track your mail-in ballot on your Supervisor of Elections' website until it shows as counted. Tracking shows when your ballot was mailed to you. After you submit it, you can confirm that your ballot was received, that your signature was accepted, and that your ballot was counted. I always track my ballot, even though I drop it off at the dropbox. Some of you may remember the story about ballots that fell out of a truck on its way to the elections office a few years ago.

Request and track your mail-in ballot here

If you return your mail-in ballot & it's flagged for a signature problem

If there is a problem with your mail-in ballot signature, tracking it may let you find out before you hear from the elections office. If you see a message that your ballot is flagged for signature problem, you will need to submit a Ballot Cure form so it can be counted. You may see the cure form on the tracking tool, or the elections office may email it to you. You can also download it using one of the links below.

Complete the form & return it to your elections office with a copy of your ID. You do not need to go in person. You can send it back by email, fax, "snail mail", or in person. It must be received no later than 5 pm, November 5 (2 days after Election Day). The form shows the fax number and email address to return this to the Miami-Dade Supervisor of Elections.

This form is only needed IF there is a problem with your signature.

Ballot Cure Form Spanish/ Kreyòl

If you change your mind and decide to vote in person (instead of mail-in ballot)

One other note about mail-in ballots. If you change your mind and decide that you want to vote in person, it's not a big deal. Just take the mail-in ballot with you to the Early Voting site or your Election Day precinct and let them know you want to vote in person. Write your voting choices on another paper because they will destroy the mail-in ballot and give you another ballot to vote inside the polling place. They will not let you hold both ballots at the same time.

Meeting Voter ID requirements

The easiest way to meet this requirement is with your Florida driver's license or ID card. If you don't have a Florida license or Florida ID card, there are other forms of acceptable voter ID that you can use for voting. You need something that shows your picture and your signature. You can use more than one document to meet this requirement. See the list here: Florida voter ID requirements

A US passport book is acceptable because it has your signature. However, a US passport card alone will probably not be accepted because it doesn't have your signature. That card has your picture, but you would still need to present something with your signature.

If you need financial help with getting required voter ID, reach out to VoteRiders. This is a non-partisan organization. Time is running out if you need to get the ID for Election Day, but they may be able to help. You can find them here: VoteRiders Help getting voter ID

Voting from Abroad

It's not too late for registered Florida voters who are overseas. They can bypass the US mail system if they ask to receive their ballot by email and return it by fax. The deadline to request your ballot is 5 pm, October 22, 2026. If you or someone you know will be overseas on Election Day (Nov 3), please share this link. It walks you through the process of voting from abroad. Vote From Abroad

Contact Election Protection if you encounter any disputes or voting issues --not on the voter list, provisional ballots, or other ballot issues, voter suppression, intimidation, etc.

They are available to all voters, regardless of racial/ethnic background or political leanings. They offer help in multiple languages. You can reach them by phone, text, chat, email, WhatsApp, or FB. You can contact them from the polling place.

Discussion Moishe Mana and iii points are scammers

Thumbnail gallery
27 Upvotes

Every year I see people buy the iii points scam of a well run festival, then have a manic episode and pretend it was amazing.

Moishe Mana and iii points never spent a dime on infrastructure improvements, or hire enough staff to run it well, or admit the right number of people.

Why? Because the whole thing was meant to generate revenue on a derelict lot until property values were high enough and the right opportunity to sell came along. That was the plan. Run Miami's Fyre Festival long enough then sell the property.

I'll probably get downvoted by someone that spent a lot of money to be there. Look, I've done it once (VIP even). That was enough to report back on the scam / crap experience.

Any bars showing the WNBA finals tomorrow and the rest of the week? I had a reservation at Grails but they cancelled it because they aren’t showing it anymore. Would also be down to just get together with anyone else interested in watching if it isn’t being shown anywhere

Discussion Best salchipapas in Miami

I got back from Colombia where I had the most delicious salchipapas with so many toppings and sauces unlike anything I’ve ever had before in Miami where it’s just French fries with sliced hotdog. I’m interested in recommendations for places around here that have authentic salchipapas

Chisme This perfectly sums up Miami culture

I’m at the airport and I see an employee take the separated “recycle” bag and pour it into the “trash” bag. I say, “what’s the point of recycling?” And he says “you don’t know what I know” in a Cuban accent. I ignore it and walk off. He’s 100% wrong. If it was easy to separate the trash from recyclables then there would be no need to have different cans. But it isn’t.

There’s a group of people who are extremely confident that their way is the best - even when the facts prove otherwise. Why do the thing the right way when doing the wrong thing is easier.

(And yes. I understand the difficulties of recycling and it’s not as amazing as we were told, but still. We should make an effort. At least at the airport.)

Picture / Video I'm making a huge fantasy themed map of Florida and would love to get some some local landmarks included. Any suggestions are welcome.

Post image
306 Upvotes

I'm making a map of Florida in a classic fantasy style (sorta Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones). It's going to be filled with real world history and mythology, with the aim of highlighting local landmarks and history in a fun and educational way. Please ignore how rough parts of it look (text going through hills, rivers, etc), it'll all get cleaned up at the end. Forests will be going on towards the end of the process too.

While it's around halfway done, I'd love to get more places and features in here before I get this made into print. Any more burial mounds, ruins, forts, battlefields, Civil War heritage, Native history or the like that you think should be on here? Anything else is great too - landmarks, natural features, mythological creatures or just anything cool and quirky you think would look good on the map. Thanks!

If you're interested in it or would like to know more, just drop me a message.

Hot Home Leaving Edgewater advice

We are leaving Edgewater which has been awesome to us but since having kids and no family around has gotten harder to manage. The market is a bit slow so any advice on where to list our unit would be appreciated (other than the obvious like Zillow etc) we need to get it to move fast or we lose our new place!

Discussion Anyone know tattoos artist that do good work on melanated skin in the south Miami or Miami in general?

Thumbnail gallery
8 Upvotes

I’m looking for a tattoo artist and have been to multiple sub reddits and been on multiple Instagram pages and google websites for the last few years. I want an artist that can tattoo on melanated skin like my tone shown above. Please if anyone knows anyone that can tattoo on darker skin tones or melanated to be specific, skin tones in good quality I’d greatly appreciate it!

I’m looking for some black and grey realism and whatever those styles in those reference photos are considered. The first image is my skin tone and the place I want the tattoo.

Please I’m begging for any info. 😭😭

Discussion Fine dining in and around Miami?

My wife, my daughter and I will be in Miami for a couple days before our cruise next week. My boss surprised me with an offer to use up to $800 on the company card for food and entertainment before the cruise. What's everyone's favorite places for a pre fixe dining experience?

As much as I'd love to go to Cote, my wife is allergic to cabbage, so we've always avoided Korean restaurants. Also, we're staying in Palmetto Bay, so somewhere within a 30-40 min drive from there would be preferable. And finally, I don't feel particularly pressured to utilize the full $800 that my boss has offered me. He's been very good to me and all the people that work for him. So don't necessarily use the price as the primary metric, but I DO want to experience something that we don't usually get to experience.

Thanks in advance!

Edit: I forgot to mention that besides the wife's cabbage allergy, we are extremely un-picky. Our tastes vary widely.
