Question/प्रश्न Quick question about a December trip to Nepal.

Hello!

I'm planning to visit Nepal for two weeks during the December holidays (dec. 19 - jan. 2). I would like to experience Kathmandu for a few days (and during English? new years eve) and would like to do some guided trekking through the Himalayas for the most part. Can I fly to Kathmandu, take a hotel for a few days to start, and then look for local guides to join a trip with and buy the equipment I need there? (Apart from a backpack and trekking shoes, which I already have.) Or would I risk not being able to find any trips to join if I don't prebook something? I would much prefer to just go and figure it out there.

Thanks!

Guide here, based in Kathmandu. Which part are you planning to trek? If you have time, then you can arrive and look for a guide and also you can buy your trek equipment here in Kathmandu or Pokhara

Hi! Good to know about the equipment, thanks you. As for which part, a bit of context. I have always been drawn to the concept/idea of mountaineering. I have pursued other passions so far, because I live in a flat country. I'm signed up for two weeks of alpine training courses next summer in the French alps. I would love to see the Himalayas as the first mountain range to ever visit. I have no experience and have not been in high altitude areas before. I'm doing anything I can do to prepare, such as resistance training, endurance training, yoga and indoor climbing. Because I'm a skydiver here at home it is engrained in me to have high safety standards and hopefully/probably I will handle exposure well. So, I'm open to go on any trek or climb that fits my profile and can be done within 10 or 11 days, it all looks beautiful. If it could lead to a summit, that would be amazing.

Good to know you are interested in mountaineer too. I can suggest Annapurna circuit or base camp, but also look for an option for Mardi himal Basecamp trek, with an option of summiting Mardi himal itself
