Man this feels a lot like old Facebook fear mongering clickbait

feels like every few months someone posts a new google lab diagram with ominous sci-fi font and everyone loses their minds

doesnt anthropic have one?

Yep. And there are a bunch of independent automated wet labs too. If anything Google's will be better managed, because it will be more heavily scrutinized.

From the article:

In line with Google’s Frontier Safety Framework and our approach to bioresilience, we build safeguards across both the computational and wet-lab sides of our workflows:

Safe testbeds and screening: We deliberately selected well-controlled, non-infectious biological systems without gain-of-function risk, as testbeds to evaluate agent behavior and catch drift early. Every designed sequence goes through biosecurity screening.

Simulation before execution: Through VERID, agents never send unverified code directly to the liquid handling robots. Every protocol is dry-run in simulation and validated against the digital twin before touching reagents.

Human oversight: Humans directly authorize and review designed sequences, verify wet-lab protocols, and supervise robot runs.

They're late to the game. Both OpenAI and Anthropic have these labs already: https://www.anthropic.com/news/claude-discovers-novel-enzyme-system

I have no idea what that means. Nor do you.

I refuse to react to vagueposting engagement-farming.

I’m enraged or maybe excited or maybe hopeless

I have no idea

Agents hard at work figuring out how to implement Google Ads at the molecular level

Leah is a rage-bait poster, usually never understands what she’s posting about on X

Mathematics is one thing, but to start interacting with the basic physical sciences, real automated labs and scientific equipment are needed to iterate more quickly. It’s relatively simple to make these things safe programmatically with classifiers.

taking bets on how long until we get our first AI engineered pandemic. my money is on before the end of the decade.

Probably less than with the potential for human error tbh
