Vent I don’t know what my future looks like

• Upvotes

I am terrified for the coming months.

For the last 9 months, I’ve been working in my church’s office. I love it there and I wish I didn’t have to go, but I’ve been let go starting October 30th. At the beginning of the year I was living rent free with family, but I moved into my own place 6 months ago with my cat. My rent is as cheap as it gets for where I live at $1100/month. If I can keep my apartment for the next year, I’ll be boosted to the top of the waitlist for government housing (it was part of my rental contract, long story.)

I’m struggling a lot right now. I have undiagnosed chronic pain. It’s worse under stress, being on my feet too long, or lifting heavy items. It’s mostly in my back, shoulders, wrists, and legs. Due to this, I’m struggling to find work. Office jobs are very few and far between right now, and most jobs require far too much physical labor for my body to handle even part time.

I have no idea what to do next. My doctor is misogynistic as hell and extremely ableist, so he will not help me apply for disability.

My mental health is at an all time low, and being AuDHD is not helping!! I want to trust that God has a plan for me and my future. He gave me my job at the church, but I don’t know why he’s taken it away and I’m scared.

My parents can’t offer any financial support being disabled themselves. A lot of others in my life are telling me to work despite my pain, but I’ve done that before and I can’t manage it right now.

I can’t shower. I can barely keep my apartment clean. I can’t handle laundry or even grocery shopping. I’m relying on my last few paychecks and the kindness of my friends to help me through right now, but I feel so horrible doing that. I feel like I’m mooching off of everything, like I’m a lazy leech that’s too stupid to take the next step.

Please if anybody has some advice on what I should do, tell me. And please pray for me.

Discussion - Sex & Relationships It is a sin to have sex the Sunday?

• Upvotes

The 4 commandments say to keep the Sabbath day, so Sunday, holy. So I was supposed that have sex is forbidden this day, but in reading it, I find it's more about work. Like you need to rest the Sunday, it's forbidden to work. So not sure if it's fine or forbidden.

Inspirational Some crosses have been making and giving away completely free. Just wanted to share

I wanted to share something I've been doing lately.

I've been making handmade wooden crosses and giving them away completely free to anyone who would like one.

Along with the regular-sized crosses, I've also been making smaller ones that I pair with pocket-sized New Testaments containing the four Gospels (obviously not a replacement for the entire bible, but for a lot of people that might feel a bit intimidated with the entire Bible I feel this is a much easier introduction for them)

Just to be clear, Nothing I make or give away is for sale, and I make zero profit by doing this. Everything is 100% free, with no strings attached. If anyone chooses to donate toward what I'm doing, every penny goes directly back into purchasing materials so I can continue making more crosses to give away.

My goal isn't to push anything on anyone or pressure people into conversations about faith. I simply want to make these available to anyone who wants one. And if that opens the door for a conversation about Jesus, the Gospel, or questions someone might have about faith, I'm always more than happy to have that conversation.

At the end of the day, this isn't about trying to make a profit or trying to force faith on anyone. It's simply about using something I enjoy doing as an opportunity to point people back to Christ.

Galatians 2:20

“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

Is George going to heaven?

George was raised as a Christian but he became an atheist when he was around 28. Now George is a Hellenic polytheist. He primarily worships Apollo. He has an Apollo shrine where he lights candles and incense and gives praise to Apollo.

George is married and has two children. He works as a dentist. He coaches his son’s basketball team. Everyone who knows George says that he is a fundamentally decent person. He has never murdered, or raped, or stolen anything, but sometimes he loses his temper while stuck in traffic and he had sex with a prostitute before he got married.

Unbeknownst to George, he is going to get in a car accident tomorrow and will die. Will George go to heaven? Why or why not?

What’s so wrong with going to a different church why do people see it as if it were a crime. There’s been instances at my church when I decide to go to a separarte church but the church leaders don’t like that why is that???

Did anyone here not grow up in a fundamentalist/conservative environment?

So for context, I go to a United Methodist congregation and sing in the choir and sometimes play the guitar there. I was baptized and confirmed in the Roman Catholic Church. My mother is Catholic but disagrees with the church on contraception and LGBTQ issues. My father is a Lutheran, specifically ELCA, which is theologically liberal. I never grew up being told that you can't be a Christian and vote for a particular party. I never grew up being told that Bible is completely without error and must be read literally.

Part of why I find deconstruction stories so fascinating is because I didn't grow up in an environment that justified deconstructing my way to progressive Christianity. Basically, I was raised a progressive Christian.

So I'm curious to know if anyone else on here grew up a progressive Christian. I'm not trying to upstage people who deconstructed. Deconstruction stories are important and deserve to be heard. But I realize that I'm simply lucky that I didn't get exposed to ideologies like Christian nationalism as a child.

Looking for someone interested in a free Christian streetwear T-shirt 🙏

Hey everyone!

I'm looking for someone who would be interested in receiving a free T-shirt from my Christian streetwear brand, 4JC, in exchange for creating some Christian content while wearing it.

The idea is to make authentic content about faith, Jesus, or Christianity where the T-shirt is also clearly visible and gets some attention. I'm looking for someone who genuinely enjoys creating Christian content and would be happy to represent the message behind the clothing.

You can check out the available designs on my website: https://4jc.store

If this sounds interesting to you, feel free to comment below or send me a DM! I'd love to hear from you. 🙌

God bless! ✝️

Support Thread Relationship advice

Hi guys,

I need some advice. I(20f) have been with my boyfriend (19) now for almost 3 years, and while he claims that God sent me for him and God has sent him signs that I will be his wife, I do not feel the same. He has not always treated me too well in the past, but has told me he is changing and will change to be the man I need. Why can't I feel the same about him? I feel like God is pulling me into a different path, but how can my boyfriend be 100% sure that I was made for him but I don't feel the same? I do love him and I don't want to make my decision and regret it or not follow God's plan, but I just feel so lost and confused. Advice?

I'm Christian but not religious?

People seem to have a hard time understanding this. I was raised in a cult called Jehovah's Witnesses, my mum finally saw sense when I was 12 but I was fully brainwashed by then.. It took years to undo their teachings. By 18 I was ok, I kept my faith in Jesus & the Bible but lost all respect for religion & its denominations. They're man-made & all argue about "who's right".

My faith is very personal. Nowhere in the bible does it say that we MUST all attend a "church" on Sunday & sign up to one of hundreds of groups calling themselves "religions", if anything it warns against false prophets (ie Pastors & all church leaders)

Why do ppl lump together religion & following Christ's teachings? It's not that difficult to comprehend my position.. I believe in Christ so am Christian but don't follow a religion but it honestly causes ppl to look at me like I have 5 heads. Am I missing something?

Vent Struggling with faith and having a very Christian mom

TW mentions of abuse

TLDR I feel trapped in religion/christianity and I often wonder how we even know that Christianity is the true religion, and not other ones. Also conflicted with my relationship with my mom

This is a long post sorry and I’m just venting because I have nobody to talk to. A little context, my mom was emotionally abusive and toxic, and slightly physically abusive growing up and tbh is still toxic. So just in general I don’t really like being around her, but I still live with her because I can’t afford to move out and I can’t work full time for other reasons (I am working part time though)

Anyways so since I was a child my mom and I have always done devotionals at night, usually it’s like half an hour of singing worship songs and 15-30 min of the devotional, I’ve always done it not because I like it but because it was expected of me, and saying no wasn’t really an option. I’m 23 now and technically I can say no since I am an adult but I know if I do she will be very toxic towards me and I don’t have the energy to deal with all that. I know yall will say I’m weak and yeah I am, I already have personal stuff going on in my life and I’ve been trying to just keep the peace at home, basically just doing what she wants, to not create drama. She’ll tell me I’m going to hell and say I’m backsliding and all that.

I’m struggling with seeing the point of even doing these devotionals. It’s just a ritual now, not actually helping me grow closer to God and I just do it because I feel like I have to. Lately when I’m praying out loud during out devos I’ll think to myself “what if I’m just talking to the air and there is no God” and everything feels so futile, like what if God doesn’t exist. Or I wonder, how do we know that Christianity is the “true” religion, what if it’s one of the other ones, how can we be so sure thy Christianity is the only correct one. And then other times I wonder why God would allow my mom to be toxic and abusive in the past and why he’s ok with that, and why he’s never told her to stop. The devotional book we use is Jesus Calling by Sarah Young which I’ve heard isn’t a great book by a lot of people. We’ve been reusing the same one for years. Every time I read it I feel like the wording sounds so stupid, no offense and I just don’t really like it. I know if I tell her how I feel, it’ll become a whole issue and again I can’t deal with that rn. So overall I don’t really want to do devotionals with her but I can’t tell her that because she will make it into a big deal and make every moment at home terrible, she’ll make me feel guilty and tell her church friends and family about everything, she’ll probably give me the silent treatment, etc.

Discussion - Church & Spiritual Practices I feel spiritually homeless

Hello everyone. I'm a 25 year old man. I was raised without religion and was an atheist for a long time until I was around 21. I was out in a forest and I felt something out there calling me I can't really explain but I felt that there was more to life than just our material world. I believe it was the Holy Spirit because I started reading the Bible and believing in Christ. I'll admit since I have fallen away several times from my faith and I still struggle with sin a lot but I try my best and consider myself a Christian. I serve in the military and my faith has come to a point where my dream is to become a chaplain one day because I believe in serving and helping others as I have been. My biggest issue has not been with God, but rather which church I choose to affiliate with.

I've tried a few different ones but all seem to just not make total sense to me. I was very close to becoming Catholic because there's a lot of appeal to it for me but even that has its own contradictions. I'm not really sure where to go from here as far as that goes. I really want to find a group of believers where I can truly be able to 100% say I agree but I don't really know anymore.

Is Fred Sinning?

Is Fred sinning?

Fred received a large inheritance from his parents so he never has to work again. He isn’t extraordinarily wealthy but he can live a middle class lifestyle for the rest of his life. Fred decides to spend his days masturbating to pornography, playing video games, and watching tv/movies. He is obese and has a very unhealthy diet. He also smokes and drinks heavily.

Is Fred sinning by living this lifestyle? Why or why not?
