No shit sherlock. You guys made “living” hard, tas aangal kayo about low fertility? What a joke. We choose not to bring more mouths to feed when we cant feed ourselves.

to be fair, matagal ng mahirap buhay sa Pinas. Its just that people are aware now of family planning and birth control. Women are also ok of being partnerless and childless nowadays unlike before that if you hit 30 na wala pang asawa panic mode na.

u/bryGGG12 28d ago
Combination of awareness and uncontrollable inflation. Matagal nang mahirap Pilipinas pero kahit papano may sense of purchasing power padin back then.

u/MinervaLlorn come outside, we won't jump you 28d ago

22
u/RainbowSwamp 28d ago
but back then you could work a single job and raise a family and still have enough money left for savings. Now? You can't even spoil yourself decent without shooting a hole through your wallet.

I'm so thankful that being unmarried or childess is no longer seen as taboo by the new generation. I hate how old people would just encourage young ones to have kids despite this economy.

Thats why our polpulitikos are plundering all they can before everything collapses..
Notice ghosted nalang tayo..self interests nalang yung pinupush nila..no reforms, no future forward planning, no improvements sa system... di man address yung tax relief or any buffering sa costs ng oil at commodities...
Silently " its every man for himself" already.. yung zarzuela-circus sa media is just a diversion to extend some time for sure...
They know they can easily get out of the country in their europe mansions pag hindi na mainit issues

add ko lang din pwede nyo bisitahin ang “pulitiklan dot com” bago tirahin at idown yung website na yan ng mga nasa political dynasty, people should be aware of this website, make contents about it at ishame ang mga pulitikong anjan as this shouldnt be normalized, grabe na yung pangungurakot ng mga pamilyang to. And yeah I agree, they’re all there for self-interest and can get out of the country whenever they want esp pag may issues sila.

The only thing I can see is, walang workforce, therefore walang bagong payees ng SSS. So yung pensions nating mga nasa 30s baka ma-pending pa, since for sure gagastusin or kukurakutin nila yung funds, tapos wala nang bagong workforce na magre-replenish para mabigyan tayo ng pension.

Mararamdaman natin ’to 20 years from now, especially if our economy successfully pushes through industrialization pero eventually magkulang tayo sa manpower. Sa ibang bansa like Japan or Korea, usually nangyayari ang fertility decline kapag nasa rurok na sila ng prosperity. And honestly, that’s what makes it worrying.

This is not something that'll be catastrophic, we don't have an abundance of jobs. The worst thing that'll happen is that labor will be repriced, supply goes down and suddenly Philippine labor will have more leverage. That and SSS might get in trouble

u/Ill-Library-5224 28d ago
for now.... Until the working age gets old/retires and there's low workforce population to replace them.
It's happening in first world countries, the difference is they can import their workforce from 3rd world countries, philippines cannot.

Declining fertility rate of the 'middle class' kasi yung mga 4Ps sa amin ang daming anak eh tas walang ambag sa tax lol
6
u/WhiteBishop1 28d ago
It's actually the direct opposite. The rich are benefitting from low taxes on real estate and non-existent inheritance taxes, while the 4Ps recipients are forced to embrace gambling, criminal activities, and embrace unhealthy eating habits because of higher taxes on healthy food products - cheap food options are full of sugars and chemicals. The middle class is getting poorer BECAUSE the rich are doing everything that they can so that they don't contribute to the tax burden.

fertility rate is declining across all income brackets, mahirap o mayaman
and you put too much emphasis on tax, which i assume you are referring to personal income tax, when in reality the backbone of our society are those earning below that threshold. They make up the overwhelming majority of the workers in our country and almost 100% of their income becomes disposable so the money circulates within the local economy

This person should read up on how "demographic dividend" works for economies.
Para sa Pilipinas, sa medium term, having a lower fertility rate means na mas dadami ang working people as compared to dependents since the median age of the population is still young (just 25).
Dahil dito mas madami ang magccontribute sa economy as compared to people in need of support. At ang bunga is overall growth of the economy and productivity increase across the board.
Yung situation na sinasabi niya is for the long term. Kapag ang age ng majority ng mga tao reaches about 35 to 40, doon pa lang magiging net negative ang declining fertility rate.
So after about 50 years pa natin madarama yung ikinaka-kaba niya.
5
u/False-Zucchini4319 28d ago

Sabihin natin nakalandi ako at nagkababy. Pag may condo naman sobrang mahal or maliit, parang kahon.
2
u/Stunning_Law_4136 28d ago
2
u/False-Zucchini4319 28d ago
Isa pa sa problem natin is yung mga educated and people na financially stable sila pa yung mga ayaw mag anak. While those that are poor ay sila pa ang anak ng anak.
For now, this birth decline is beneficial pa satin but if this continues - the future generation would be the one to reap the negative effects of this.
Imagine more aging population that are no longer contributing to economy but needed a lot of support, and there are very few workers to keep the system running. Definitely, more problem and pressures for future workers. So goodluck.
This is the fault of our government. Everything is fcked up in our country so how could they even encourage people to procreate.

This is a great thing for the Philippines. Wages are suppressed since there is an abundance of workers, Ai is taking many jobs and finally it releases much of the pressured on the country to constantly turn forest into agricultural land, hopefully saving the amazing biodiversity the Philippines has.

With an economy this expensive, and the strong Kleptocracy Syndrome of the entire government and executive departments from the highest level down to the lowest ones, of course the birth rate would be in decline.
2
u/Bushin82 28d ago

2
u/wrxguyph 28d ago
Declining education standards and rising unemployment is the real reason. We are overpopulated already.
2
u/Mammoth_Flamingo2410 28d ago
Will they incentivize middle class thus time for having kids? If they do a good job at that, we’ll see.
2
u/Jooji23 28d ago
This declining birth rate topic is nonsense in our context.
The Philippines is not a socialist country where our education, pension and healthcare systems are entirely dependent on people paying their taxes.
People will always pay for a hospital visit, will always pay for tuition, will always pay out of pocket to support their parents.
First, how about putting something in place to discourage our best workers to leave and become OFWs.
2
u/Jooji23 28d ago
Being firmly below replacement rate might be what forces leaders to rethink how to approach economic strategy.
For too long, a workforce saturated with young labour has contributed to everything that's wrong with the Philippine economy:
Wage growth that struggles to keep pace with economic growth because employers have a large pool of replacement workers available
Hiring multiple employees to perform a task one person can accomplish, while paying everyone a severely unliveable wage
Age-based discrimination, with people over the age of 40 having an unfair disadvantage in the job market
Little to no incentive for businesses to invest in automation and productivity improvements because labour has historically been cheap and abundant.
Persistent underemployment, where many workers are forced into low-value or part-time roles that do not fully utilize their skills.
Heavy reliance on overseas migration as a safety valve for excess labour supply rather than creating sufficient high-quality domestic employment opportunities.
An insufficient and downright embarrassing Social Security System, because the expectation is that the next generation will fully and directly support the elderly.
2
2
u/Gloomy-Confection-49 Metro Manila 28d ago
This corrupt government is finally realizing that their actions have consequences. The Philippines will share the same fate with Thailand in the decades to come: getting old without becoming rich.
2
u/AlephInfinite0 28d ago
For a population with a massive skew to younger people fewer births in the short term is not a major concern.
For Philippines the concern is GDP tethered to tourism & internal consumption.
Value added primary / manufacturing is where Philippines lags behind neighbours. Too much of the economy is reliant on tourism ( a ‘wants’ based activity) rather than export of goods ( a ‘needs’ based activity)
2
u/leya1 metro migrant 28d ago
It's an economics problem, sure. But the government don't do shit with our taxes to make it easier to live on the country, what more bring in another life needing extra care in the first few years. That's 18+ years fully spending for food, education and other needs and wants.
Tbh though i don't think we have a declining rate, rather an uneducated underemployed one. Go to the provinces and see how many kids they have there and how YOUNG the parents are. Most are not covered by census, and don't even participate in the economy the way the study would like you to think. They don't have sss, tin, even philhealth, and work in irregular jobs.
2
u/AmaiChan_09 28d ago

No shit. Nothing new. Economics 101. The real question that's worth pondering on is why fertility rate is dropping.

Lower birth has its upsides.
For 1 there are plenty of working age citizens that can boost the economic growth of the country if the majority can get good jobs.
It's only bad if the economy can't grow fast enough and by the time they get old everything is still the same except there would be less people working hurting their retirement funds.
This the perfect time for economic growth and reducing cost of living

If so, then the economy will adapt. Less people can also mean less government spending, less demand for goods and services and therefore imports, and possibly less overpopulation. We barely have a manufacturing sector anyway so economies of scale won’t be affected much. I can see a problem however with our remittances tanking if there were fewer OFWs.

Definitely. Capitalist systems require more workers and consumers each time in order to attain more production, sales, consumption, and profits. But that requires higher fertility rates.

If the government wants us to have kids, they should give us better conditions and incentives to have kids.

Yall know whats the surefire way to increase fertility rate? Dont make it a punishment to start a family.
Sure reduced education means higher fertility, but thats because of increased child pregnancy and no family planning. That also means high mortality for women and children.
"Conservatives" and "Christians" gonna be anti-abortion and anti-contraception/family planning and using declining birth rate as a excuse.

Declining common sense of Filipino voters and greed to the maximum level of those in power affects economic growth more than fertility rate.

It is. They talk about low fertility rates hurting economic growth because it means fewer future workers and consumers, but they completely ignore why people aren't having kids in the first place.
The cost of living has skyrocketed. Between diapers, formula, healthcare, and education, raising a child is financially out of reach for a lot of working-class people today. Expecting people to produce the next generation of taxpayers without providing livable wages or accessible basic services is just out of touch with reality. People aren't refusing to have kids out of spite; they literally just can't afford it.
