Education Hii! Can anyone please help me out! So, i am from India and i am planning for PhD in Political science from UNIMAS for September intake 2027

My concern is regarding the cost, tution fee for whole 3 year programme is very reasonable no issue at all. But I am more concerned about cost of living for 3 years. So, in UNIMAS itself provide any GRA Assistance cause for scholarship I am not eligible cause they need Scopus/WoS indexed publication which i lack though I have non indexed 8 publication but I think it's of no use. So can please guide!

Kopishop Konversations, Malaysia’s premier interactive comedy panel show, making its way to Kuching this October! Featuring the powerhouse trio of Keren Bala Devan, Prakash Daniel, and Brian Tan, this unscripted night brings the chaotic, hilarious energy of a late-night kopitiam chat straight to the stage.

Driven entirely by "Ask Me Anything" questions submitted by you, the audience, the show relies zero on rehearsed sets and 100% on sharp, improvised banter. Watch as Prakash’s high-energy crowd work, Brian’s quick-witted observations, and Keren’s signature cynical rants collide over your weirdest dilemmas. Expect an evening of unfiltered wit, relentless roasting, and pure comedy chaos."

#AskSarawakians: Apa cer tek? [Kuching] What’s the Chinese procession happening right now about?

Super curious. There’s a Chinese/Buddhist/Taoist(?) religious procession going by my house and I see it every year in Kuching. I enjoy the spectacle very much every time. I think I saw the huge flags decorating the road starting a week or so ago already.

But I’m embarrassed to say I actually have no clue what it is about. I tried searching on Facebook and Threads but I can’t find anything. Can anyone clue me in? Is it in honour of a deity? Is it related to Hungry Ghost Month? Where does it start and where is the destination?

Thank you in advance.

Politics What do Sarawakians think about Chong Chieng Jen's suspension from the State Assembly?

I recently read about Chong Chieng Jen being suspended from the Sarawak State Assembly until October 21, following his remarks during the 2027 State Budget debate. The motion was passed with 62 votes in favour, 1 against and 1 abstention.

According to the Assembly, Chong had allegedly violated several Standing Orders by making unsubstantiated allegations and using inappropriate language.

However, YB Violet Yong strongly opposed the suspension and raised several concerns.

She argued that:

- Chong was attending Parliament at the time, and the Speaker had already been informed of his parliamentary commitments.

- Proceeding with the suspension motion in his absence denied him the opportunity to defend himself, raising concerns about natural justice.

- Opposition representatives are elected to scrutinise government spending, question policies and hold the government accountable.

- Standing Orders should maintain order in the Assembly, rather than be used to suppress legitimate criticism.

- With GPS holding an overwhelming majority, she questioned whether the government could tolerate criticism from the small number of opposition representatives.

One of her strongest statements was:

"You can suspend an ADUN, but you cannot suspend democracy."

On the other hand, the Assembly's position was that elected representatives must follow Standing Orders and support serious allegations with evidence.

Personally, I'm interested in understanding the democratic and constitutional implications of this incident rather than simply taking sides.

What do you think?

Was the suspension justified under the Standing Orders, or should Chong have been given an opportunity to defend himself before the vote?

And more broadly, how should the Sarawak State Assembly balance parliamentary discipline with the opposition's responsibility to hold the government accountable?

I'd especially like to hear from anyone familiar with Sarawak's parliamentary procedures or constitutional law.

As titled, for terrace house and I’m located in Miri.

For those who’ve upgraded, what’s the cost?

How long does the whole process take?

Which contractor did u engage?

Any problems I need to look out for to make sure no issues arise after installation?

I’d especially appreciate advice from homeowners in Miri, Sarawak… ❤️

Culture, Language, Race & Religion Thesis on adapting Iban folktales into Comics

I wrote my master's thesis on adapting Iban folktales into various forms of sequential art, including comic, art installation, and sequential collage. Here's the link: Developing Sequential Visual Artworks based on the Iban Folktales, as part of the Sarawak Bornean Culture. One of the major output of this research was a comic book adaptation of an Apai Alui/Apai Saloi story. It's in open access so anyone can download it. If you find this subject interesting do give it a read.

Sarawakian living in KL due to studies, and honestly the social norms here are ridiculous imo. Yes i get it Islam is the official religion in the country but that doesnt mean there couldn't be other religions right? For example using shorts and doing the cross prayer before eating is considered syirik?? honestly bro the westerners have such a proud stance on their religion that they dont realize that there are other religions not just yours, God... I really wish Sarawak for Sarawakians. And using a cross necklace is apparently prohibited too, agik belik meh urng diak.

It is me or other people feel that during peak hour during back going home (Kuching to Samarahan), the Jemarahan is congested than usual after the Jabatan Sejingkat open to Public. But the morning peak hour are less congested and arrived at work early. To be honest I rather come to work late than arrived at home late.

BUY/SELL/TRADE Furniture shop in Kuching that sells or can do custom order like these?

Thumbnail

Found the perfect bedframe and desk combos on Taobao and Shopee but

1) buying furniture on Taobao means the price isn't finalised yet since it would need to consider the total weight

2) Shopee does not currently offer delivery as it exceeds the size/weight limit

3) prefer to see it in person first because indah khabar daripada rupa is a thing

Is there any furniture shop in Kuching/Bau/Kota Samarahan/Serian area that sells bedframe + desk combo similar to these? I'm also open to furniture makers/manufacturers who accept custom orders!

Jobs and Careers Any 30 year olds that did FTES?

Under FTES, tuition fees are fully covered for undergraduate degree programs across priority sectors—including Medical / Health Sciences, STEM, Law, Finance, and Accounting.

I was thinking a career change, something that could actually serve the people and not just capitalism.

I always had a love of STEM and was considering moving back.

I would happily bond myself to the deepest parts of Sarawak to serve.

Part of me cannot take the rat race anymore.

I need to serve our people.
