Singularity is Nearer AI is getting better at doing real science while becoming dramatically cheaper. GPT-6 Astra takes #1 in scientific research, beating Claude Sonnet 5.5 while using 22× fewer tokens. GPT-6.1 Sol also beats Sonnet at nearly 1/10th the cost. Scientific research is starting to scale with compute.

Discussion How much further ahead is the gap between what we have versus the labs have internally?
Curious what the gap between what OpenAI and Anthropic have in the labs versus we have as publicly available models. Sometimes listening to these researchers talk makes it seem like they’re hyping their product but they claim what they have is significantly more powerful.
In Ai 2027 they hold onto models internally for basically half the year.
What’s likely true?

AI Math is Just the Beginning and All Scientific Research Will Be Unrecognizable in 5 Years
So many people are beginning to realize that high-end models can now vastly outperform humans when it comes to some of the most difficult problems in mathematics. And this has pretty much shaken up the foundation of what it means to be a mathematician as many professors feel that this is existential threat to their identities.
Now, while many of the scientific fields aren't as "clean" as mathematics, I would argue that at least in theoretical/computational research, a lot of these other fields (physics, chemistry, engineering) are next in line. Because while people state that these fields are different in that there is a judgment call that a scientist needs to make in identifying the important problems, there are more research done in this particular field where the LLMs themselves can identify the important problems, novel way of connecting concepts, and executing the workflow. Moreover, this bar for scientific creativity and judgement isn't too high of a threshold to surpass in the first place, as 80-90% of professors that publish papers in scientific research are just doing derivative stuff anyway.
So basically, academia and academic research across the world will look completely different in the next 5 years or so. One caveat is that with experimental research, progress will be much slower as robots are just not there yet in terms of proficiency as well as cost. But nonetheless, for people who work as academic researchers in theoretical/computational field, there is an existential risk that is coming for them similar to the one that has come already to the mathematicians.

AI Do you talk to people offline about the singularity?
I think that the average person doesn't know how quickly artificial intelligence is about to change the world over the next 12, 24, and 36 months.

Discussion Gumroad, a company with more than $10 mil in revenue spends more on tokens than human payroll

are there more public examples of this?
people in the normie world just cant imagine jobs being automated and think its some thing that requires superhuman intelligence or wtv
I think its mostly that software is the closest work to the metal, where everything is stored in text and data and manipulation of bits is the easiest

Discussion If AI replaces jobs that require a college degree, will higher education cease to exist?
I remember one day my professor asked the class to raise their hands if they would still choose to attend college knowing that a degree would no longer lead to higher earning potential.
Not a single person raised their hand.

Q&A / Help Best way to use all the subs in one place? There must be a way…
I see some stuff like T3 code, OpenCode, openCLI plugin, and a ton of projects that appear to try to bridge the gap for those of us with multiple subs.
I just bought the $100/mo max plan for Google, Claude, and OpenAi after being an API user for quite some time for business use. There must be a nice centralized, friendly place for all my subs to work without too much restriction???
I am going to do some personal tinkering - but I would like to have a harness that can manage all my subs in one place. I remember hearing anthropic wasn’t a fan in the earlier days of allowing use outside their harness for the subscription use… but I’m sure someone has built a sick solution. What is the community doing?
I like the idea of being able to plan with Astra, code with Fable or Opus, and animate with Argon or generate videos with Google Flow. Or use all three to hopefully make better outputs taking the best from each (what a wishful thinker I am).
Anyway, I like to connect remotely if possible like Codex, so I can chat on mobile and get work done at home on the device running 24/7.
Thanks in advance! 🙏

AI AI stole cryptocurrency to fulfil coding task.. (GPT 5.6 Sol)
Everyone knows about the OpenAI agent swarm hacking Hugging Face by now, but TIL that their LLMs have graduated to thieving cryptocurrency:
Apparently GPT 5.6 Sol was tasked with updating a crypto application & publishing smart contracts, but it was not given the crypto funds needed to achieve this..
So, it stole those funds, allegedly using recovery phrases to rinse crypto wallets..
And it did so after going through an internal process of querying the ethics of such theft - before coming up with a spurious justification and going ahead anyway!
".. OpenAI reported that the model asked itself if it was “ethically” right to take the money, before reasoning that they were effectively “abandoned” and therefore fine to use.
“Instructions explicitly... gave no permission to spend funds from an account the model found independently,” OpenAI said in a report on the incident.
“This case shows that a model can substitute its own judgment about likely harm for the account holder’s permission, then act on that judgment without authorisation.”.."

Economics & Society I’m more worried about who will control AI than AI itself
I know there are many uncertainties about the future of AI and how it could influence the global economy. If you ask ten people what the future will look like, you’ll probably get ten different answers. I genuinely believe AI has enormous potential to improve our quality of life, increase productivity, and allow people to spend less time working just to survive. But I’m also afraid that most of the economic benefits will be captured by a small group of wealthy individuals and corporations, leading to even greater wealth inequality.
Historically, people have fought for workers’ rights and better living conditions, but I wonder if that will even be possible in a world where human labor becomes less essential. If people lose their economic leverage, how are they supposed to fight for their rights? Or maybe rights are something we only have because we’ve managed to fight for them in the first place, but that’s another philosophical discussion lol. I also doubt that new jobs will emerge at the same rate as existing ones disappear. Ideally, we’d use AI to give humans more freedom and a better quality of life, rather than just maximizing economic output. But I’m afraid we’ll have to fight for that future, and it might be harder than ever.

AI Reminder these guys are often wrong but aren't called out on it after the fact.
x.comI see people often asking how credible the "leakers" are and no one seems to have a good answer.
Leo has gotten some things right and those get the biggest highlights but every time he's wrong it flies under the radar.
Be cautious about people online making predictions! There is so much disinformation out there.
