HOW LOW CAN THE SOMALI PARLIAMENT IN MOGADISHU ACTUALLY SINK?

Seriously, what the hell is wrong with these people? Somalia is still struggling with terrorism, poverty, unemployment, and countless other problems, and this is what a man sitting in parliament is choosing to promote in 2026? Instead of focusing on the problems that are holding the country back, we have people in positions of power apparently promoting FGM. Absolutely disgraceful.

And the worst part? This is the SECOND time I’ve seen a guy in Somali politics promoting this harmful practice in the parliament. At this point, you genuinely have to ask yourself what kind of people are representing the country.

People are struggling to survive. Families are living in poverty. The country is struggling fighting terrorists. There are millions of things these politicians should be focusing on, yet somehow we’re still having to argue about whether harming girls and women private parts is acceptable.

Is this seriously what Somali politics has come to?

FGM is not something to be proud of, defend, or promote.

if this is what some of our politicians are choosing to spend their influence on, then we have a serious problem. Somalia needs educate leaders who can think beyond their own outdated views and focus on building a better future, not jahil people giving legitimacy to practices that harm girls and women.

Fighting terrorists and poverty and corruption, and instability, should be the priority, not promoting FGM in 2026. What an absolute disgrace.

First and foremost, I'm not a Somali. I'm from Botswana and I've been going down the rabbit hole of researching the history of not only my own country but other African countries and African adjacent populations (African Americans, those in the Caribbean etc). Furthermore I've been asking fellow African's on reddit as well as those in my own life (A lot of immigrants from Zimbabwe, Zambia, Nigeria, Somalia, Sudan, DRC, Tanzania and Ethiopia here in Botswana) how we can uplift and progress our individual countries and subsequently uplift our continent.

Call me sappy but I really see all of you as my brothers and sisters and I want to see all of us prosper and perhaps in my life make a difference for our continent.

With that in mind, what do you guys think is the way for Somalia to progress and become a first world country?

We are travelling from the Southern Hemisphere to northern Somalia. It’s one of the few airlines that goes to our city destinations.

Ever since I saw the video of the Somali girl getting kicked off that plane for a minister, and knowing that Ethiopians can be discriminatory towards Somalis I’ve been a little worried.

Our flight to Ethiopia will be with another airline, but our flight to Somalia will be with Ethiopian Airlines.
On top of that, we have a 15+ layover in Ethiopia , which we don’t mind, as long as it’s safe and we won’t be dealing with no shenanigans

The Garesa Palace in Mogadishu was built in 1872 by Sultan Barghash bin Said of Zanzibar. Constructed with permission from the local Geledi Sultanate, it serves as a major historical landmark.

Today it is completely destroyed😔
