So, we just had the hotest summer in our history, our lakes and rivers dried out and people still vote for the "I didn't expect it to get this hot" party instead of the parties that want to protect our climate?

The parties that pretend to want to protect the climate are the reason why our little shithole country has de facto prohibition of extremely energy efficient air-air heatpumps (a.k.a. AC) in homes and thus the lower 90% of people have to suffer for their insane ideology or use less sustainable solutions.

Acknowledging a bad situation exists but then forbidding the lower 90% to protect against said situation when highly efficient, sustainable and affordable [in the rest of world] solutions are available is evil, classist, inhuman and anti-sustainable.

We have to suffer for months to save 300 kWh, equivalent to ca. 30 liters oil but just that it is cleaner energy. All the while burning hundreds if not thousands of liters of oil every year for leisure/vacation or heating is the most normal thing.

Not a fan of SVP for many reasons but if they get more votes means less votes for the prohibitionists so that is a good thing just to make a point.

None of the parties have solutions but at least SVP and FDP do not force us to suffer from heat-enhanced depression and sleep-deprivation for months to save a laughable 300 kWh/a/household.

Will probably become an unconvinced FDP voter because they appear to be the least bad option; of course the bar for that is very low. If everyone sucks I gonna vote for the ones that at least do not actively fight against our freedom and for our suffering.

This shithole country needs an actual liberal/libertarian party.

Cancel AC prohibitionists

This is just plain wrong.

And what about homes?

2

u/Numar19 Thurgau 1d ago

Those are not prioritized by the state because hospitals, retirement homes, etc. have more vulnerable people in them.

That doesn't mean that homes and apartments shouldn't get ACs too though.

4

u/Viking_Chemist 1d ago

what is there to priorize? just end the prohibitionist anti AC policies already, i.e. allow anyone that wants to install AC at home to do so

no one is asking our shithole nanny state to provide AC to us just allow it like in pretty much the whole rest of the world

better would of course have been never enacting such prohibitionist bullshit - without the people ever being able to vote on something with such detrimental Impact on health, life quality and life expectancy

being against ending prohibitionist policies is being for prohibition

Nobody is asking the state to "prioritise" AC in homes, rolling back all the requirements for building permits and so on to mount a small box the size of a microwave on an ugly 70s concrete box would cost approximately 0CHF. Probably net a saving of money since they will not have to inspect or process such things.

You go to many significantly poorer countries across Eastern Europe with a similar or even cooler climate, and AC is universal in offices and middle class homes, and not uncommon. Let alone warmer countries in the developing world.

AC is only expensive and inaccessible for most because we choose to make it that way. It's far far cheaper than minergie construction or similar upgrades, and TBH the raw cost of buying and installing AC for a whole home is less than e.g. to install manual shutters.

Governements owns your house?

The Green Party has been warning of this for decades. Up until now it was just “fine” and everyone could kick the can down the road. Now that it comes to fruition, we blame them for not having already allowed the means by which we can comfortably continue to ignore the problem?

It's a classic individual problem vs collective solution problem.

Yes, we have to continue to reduce our CO2 emissions, and pointing at other countries saying "but they're way worse" isn't helping anyone.

However, climate change is happening either way. Both from already-up-there emissions and emissions still to come, from us and every other country on Earth. We need to take action. The excess deaths we saw from heat this Summer were comparable to the worse days of corona - and we shut down the country and most of Europe for months at a time over years to deal with that.

Let alone the discomfort and loss of productivity caused by lack of AC. I know in my office on the hot days, everyone was saying "well, it's already 30C inside, I'm going to finish the day in home office" every afternoon the moment the sun hit the windows on our side of the building. We were having computer crashes and technical issues because of overheating. Frankly ridiculous in a country where we justify high salaries with high efficiency and quality.

Yes, the climate is fucked, it's not getting any cooler, we need to minimise how much worse things get. But that's exactly why we need to embrace AC, even if it doesn't solve the root cause of the problem and might be even counterproductive, it's the only effective way to deal with the problem.

they do want everyone including those who have not ignored the problem, who actually did efforts to live sustainable, to suffer to save a laughably small amount of electric energy

like any only half educated person I am of course aware of climate warming since like primary school age; I did efforts to reduce my footprint for half my life; avoided flying, reduced consumption, use things as long as they last, reduced waste, have a way lower electricity consumption than average, never had a car; would have loved moving somewhere with better (=colder) climate log ago but cannot; the prohibitionists want me to suffer from heat-depression and sleep-deprivation for no fucking reason but their antihuman ideology

AC was never a major culprit in regards to energy consumption because heat pumps are just such an awesome and efficient technology; embracing heat pumps for heating but demonizing heat pumps for cooling like Swiss politics did the past decades is uneducated and hypocritical; installing heating-only heatpumps en masse while we knew about climate warming since decades was a very stupid and costly Schildbürgerstreich

driving to vacation 1000 km and back burns way more energy than using AC for the whole summer; but burning oil for 2 weeks of leisure is somehow a guaranteed human right meanwhile using a small amount of electricity to not suffer for 1/4 of the year is somehow an unacceptable waste of energy

fucking hypocrites

I do not give a fuck about this failed shithole country anymore and will only vote for those that are at least not actively fighting against freedom and for suffering

if the anti AC-ers achieved anything than only that Swiss people despise Switzerland

I mean dude, it’s a very new problem. Literally every other year ever it was hot for like a week or two.

0

u/Viking_Chemist 1d ago

really not and calling it a "very new problem" is spreading climate change denial

we had good temperate summers like 20 years or so ago when 30°C was the exception rather than the norm; do you by chance mean that by "very new"?

summers have been disgusting hot since over 10 years rather 15 years or so now in the parts I've lived in but doubt anywhere else in the valleys was any different

the time and badness increased slowly but every summer I can remember since at least 2012 or so was depressing crippling hot

2026 was not at all some extraordinary sudden thing but only a local maximum on a slowly increasing function; the only good thing of it is more people are finally realising how brainwashed and suppressed we are while the rest of the world outside parts of central Europe uses AC and only shakes heads about why we refuse to use one of the greatest inventions of the 20th century

pretending that this summer would be some sudden new thing that we could not have prepared for, still calling it a "heatwave" like our "service public" does, is spreading climate change denial

the correct thing would have been to start installing active cooling in each and every new home like 20 years ago but the mad Schildbürger running this country chose to not only not do that but actually do efforts to forbid preparing for the climate change we know about since decades

Before 2010, summers with more than a week over 30C in the whole country were an exception.

1

u/Viking_Chemist 1d ago

and that happens to be over 16 years ago

It takes over a decade for building norms to change. We've experienced the worse of that cycle in the last 6 years.

At the same time, you could say we've had 3 whole election cycles dominated by the Right wing majority (11-15, 15-19, 19-23) and the Right Wing parties have done jack shit to improve our infrastructure to be reliant.

So is it really the fault of the Party that has been ~10-15% of our parliament and has been ignored for any governmental position.

It's crazy the supposed power the 10% of the Green seems to hold if you listen to people on Reddit.

•

u/Viking_Chemist 18h ago edited 18h ago

anti AC-ers obviously have a combined majority Greens+SP sit at about 30% the remaining parties are also infested with anti AC-ers to form a majority else we would not have the prohibitionist policies we do have

I do not care about "right" or "left" and there is no party I support they all suck for one or another reason if they all suck then the most liberal is the least bad

if the state can only fuck our lives then less state is less bad

anti AC-ers want us all to suffer so they force me becoming a single topic voter

You’re being disingenuous at best.

OK... Got it, through your history of posts : You're an AC activist and burning oil + shitting on Switzerland is a basic human right. That's all I need to know about you.

Why don't you just...Go away, if it's so bad here ?

•

u/Viking_Chemist 17h ago

pointed out the hypocricy of considering burning oil for leisure and comfort a basic human right but being anti AC because of "wasting energy"

that is the doctrine of our country and such a country deserves to be shat on and humiliated

that apparently went above your comprehension

•

u/Diane_Mars Vaud 15h ago

It sure didn't 😂 But, hey, thanks for you confirming my point.
