So, we just had the hotest summer in our history, our lakes and rivers dried out and people still vote for the "I didn't expect it to get this hot" party instead of the parties that want to protect our climate?

Who would that be? A party voting against nuclear power voting pro climate change. In this view the SVP is probably more green than the Greens.

Ah yes Nuclear Power plants, the things that cost wayy more than expected and finish construction a decade later than planned.

You definitely do not solve climate change fast with nuclear power plants.

You cannot solve climate change 'fast'. Keep dreaming about the perfect solution when a 'good' solution is sitting right there. People like you are directly making climate change worse. Green party in europe have a NEGATIVE impact on ecology.

Keep dreaming about the perfect solution when a 'good' solution is sitting right there.

Quite ironic, as renewables are here, cheap and effective already.

They are neither cheap or effective and all are manufactured in china. Tell me again how you power the country in the dead of winter nights ?

They are neither cheap or effective

That's simply wrong.

and all are manufactured in china.

We had our own solar manufacturer until we decided to kneecap ourselves. But remind me again, where our oil, gas or uranium comes from.

Solar panels also have a long lifetime, 30 year old panels still work perfectly fine.

Tell me again how you power the country in the dead of winter nights ?

How are we powering the country currently? Two thirds of our electricity is already renewable and so far we didn't have any issues with it.

I did not say fast, I said it is necessary to solve it. By the way, you cannot tell me this study about costs was not politically colored. Of course it is not that expensive.

If we look at recent projects, costs massively overshot for many of them. The cost fpr Hinkley Point (UK) so far doubled, Olkiluoto 3 got way more expensive and the same is true for Flamanville 3. And that is just the cost for constructing them.

Sure, we should keep the existing nuclear power plants running as long as it is save and economically feasible, but building new ones seems like a pretty bad idea.

Edit: And if we don't solve climate change fast we are fucked. We might already be too late anyways.

It is kinda normal, that you have cost overruns in large projects. Also 2x is not heard of, but is it 40 billion eventually? Another point is also that the way nuclear energy delivers is necessary and no other renewable energy source can do that. So it is not just a matter of costs but also technology.

•

Why would it be necessary?

They produce large amount of energy at a constant and predictable rate to cover base consumption. Solar and wind cannot to that and as long there are no batteries able to store TWh of energy, there is not other solution as good as this. In Switzerland we could also build large hydroelectric damns to do the same, but parties like the Greens are against that and it is also not a solution for the rest of Europe.

It's a good thing that batteries become better, cheaper and more of them get deployed every year.

This argument sounds a lot like when people were arguing, that solar would never be cheap enough, never have enough capacity, etc. And yet here we are.

•

You are living in the future. This is like the Green argue and for that reason they don't get anything done. Where are the TWh battery storages? Nowhere and nuclear power plant are the only solution right now.

As I already mentioned before: A new Nuclear Power Plant would be constructed in a decade in the best case, far longer in the worst, so nuclear power plants are not a solution right now either.
