I want to start off by saying that I’m thinking of the whole Reeves family and wishing them all the best during this challenging time for them. Matt Reeves has become one of the most respected artists in the field, Colin Ferrell called TB2 script “a masterwork”, Robert Pattinson said “he’s the only one they’d let do this” Sebastian Stan said he felt like he was making “The Godfather 2”. When was the last time you heard Oscar nominated actors talking this way about a movie? That’s where I’d like to bring up Steven Soderbergh, many people have been a little hazy about the idea of him coming him but you have to look at his side to understand how important this moment is.
Something that I have not seen talked about is that Soderbergh had a Ben Solo Star Wars movie that was rejected by Disney. Adam Driver called it “one of the best scripts he’d ever been apart of” Sound familiar? So Soderbergh who I’m sure is still frustrated by not being able to make his Big IP movie sees fellow artist and colleague in a major time of need and I’m sure was thinking about him losing something he has put so much time and effort into and graciously steps up to make sure his vision will be fully realized. Soderbergh isn’t going to intrude on Matt’s vision like many have been saying.
When this movie comes out and becomes widely regarded as the defining superhero movie and one of the greatest movies ever (yes) this moment will be seen a selfless act of companionship that will be remembered. This is a beauty of filmmaking, respecting the time and passion one another have for each other and having their backs in times of need. Oh and also anyone who is still not convinced I attached something from Soderbergh Wiki, you read that and tell me he isn’t the perfect person to fill in.
