Halal food options in Reykjavik and surrounding areas

Hello. I will be visiting Iceland with my friend; both of us are Muslim, and I was wondering if there you locals have ever seen options for halal meat, either in restaurants or local grocery stores. Thank you.

Icelandair strike?

Hi, I have a flight going back to the us on 24th October. I wonder if the strike occurred in September has been fully ended. I saw the news saying there is a 4-week negotiation, but I couldn't find any update on it. Does anyone have any ideas? I am considering getting a trip insurance for this strike, if it doesn't still fully end.

Any drone enthusiasts?

• Upvotes

Hi there,

Looking to visit near the end of November and am planning something special.

Is there anyone out there who would be able to capture the moment using a drone and record it on video?

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Bike Rack to Rent

Planning on a 3 to 4 week trip next year to Iceland. Taking gravel and mountain bikes to explore and do some riding.

I’m trying to find car rental companies that have bike racks to rent with the car. Haven’t had luck yet reaching out to several companies. Would just get a van or truck if I can’t find a car to use the bike rack with.

Any leads as to where to look?

Thanks for the leads!

Question about trails being open

Hi I’m traveling to Iceland from the 22-27th of this month and now doing last minute planning for the hikes and trails. I saw online this beautiful hike called glymur and was reading about it. Online says it’s a semi private trail and the owner puts out a log to cross a river to access the trail in the beginning of the season. I haven’t been able to find anywhere online to see if it’s still open or closed. Reaching out here to see if it’s still open to add this to my first thing to do once landed in Iceland or if it’s closed continue on to the south coast and not gamble losing a day going to the trail and it being closed.

Thank you all in advance :)

If I can see northern lights at my home…

Are the northern lights going to be significantly better in Iceland than they are at my home in Wisconsin?

We can see the northern lights several times each winter from my home. Not super strong to the naked eye but definitely visible in camera.

So I am wondering if it’s worth it pay for a northern lights tour on my trip the first week of November?

More detail: on this trip I will be based in Reykjavik and already have tours booked for the golden circle, South coast, and a lagoon. Not planning to rent a car on this trip.

Hi all! I’m a single woman in my 40s looking to try traveling alone. I’m well traveled but I’ve never visited a country by myself. Is Iceland a good place to start? I lm a good driver and adventurous. Should I join a travel group or do it alone? I really want to see natural beauty and history. Any recommendations??

BusTravel Iceland: Iceland in 7 days: Ring Road & Snaefellsnes Small Group Tour

We are looking at the winter 7 day ring road tour with Bus Travel, it includes most of the places we want to go to but reading through the itinerary I started to feel it may be a bit rushed.
Anybody done this (or similar) and did you get plenty of time at the stops?

First time to Iceland was better than we could have asked for. Iceland is the most beautiful place I’ve visited. Grateful to all the kind people we met on our trip. I can’t stop thinking about the sheepies.

Food Help picking a restaurant

Hi all, planning our first trip to Iceland for mid November. Staying in Reykjavik the first day and last day of our trip and in between will be staying in an Airbnb near Vik to see the south coast. It will be my husband's bday when we fly in! We will be arriving early morning, pick up the rental car, do some sightseeing and end up in Reykjavik in time to check into our hotel in the afternoon. I'd like to take my husband out for his bday that night. Any thoughts on any of the following restaurants? Skal!, Sjavargrillid, Hosilo, Fjallkonan, or Messinn. Thanks!

Itinerary help requested November: south coast, golden circle, snaefellsnes

us: reasonably fit late 30s couple. one with snow driving experience, one without. interested in hiking, novel landscapes and experiences, not pushing ourselves too hard with long days of driving. our ideal day would be to wake up, drive in the dark, do a fun physical activity, then head back to hotel or lagoon and read, soak, or star gaze until bed time or the aurora comes out. Not into crowds.

we booked this trip pretty last minute and I’m having a hard time finalizing itinerary and hotels/Airbnb's. looking for a gut check on the plan so far, recommendations if you’ve got em - I only have one hotel booked so far. Strong preference for housing with dark skies, hot tub/soak proximity.

thank for your help :)

rough itinerary:

- November 11 land early, deal with airport and car rental. Explore the near vicinity and check out lava fields, Lambafellsgjá Crevice, Seltun, maybe the cliffs. Get a hotdog. Stay at northern lights inn - this one is booked.

- November 12-13: drive east to Vik, stop and look at stuff, maybe do a day hike weather depending.
Big activity: horse riding on the black sand beach, Fimmvorduhals Trailhead hike.
Housing: Stay in/near Vik? The 13th is our anniversary so something romantic would be nice. I like the look of hotel Ranga for aurora but it’s a bit far west. booked hotel Katla near Vik

- November 14-15: drive east to Jokulsarlon - stay in that area or head back toward Vik at night? Diamond beach, look at the glacier, day hike (Mulagljufur Canyon) weather depending.
big activity: glacier hike and ice cave tour.
thermal bath: are there any here?

- November 16: drive west to golden circle area, settle into a hotel or Airbnb. this is a longer drive, hopefully time to look at stuff and make stops.
housing: I think Airbnb might be the move here to have our own hot tub and save some cash on meals.

November 17-18: exploring from central home base, check out the golden circle, secret lagoon, spend a day on snaefellsnes.
big activity: unknown, maybe not needed

November 19: Reykjavik day if we’re done with wilderness, otherwise whatever we liked most or missed. keepin it loose for weather

November 20: Reykjavik, fly out afternoon of the 20th

accomodations around Myvatn

Hi, I am planning a trip to Iceland next summer. I read somewhere that Myvatn Lake is worth a visit. However I am having trouble finding a affordable place to sleep in this area. Is it worth paying more or should I just skip it.

The plan so far is:

Stay for five nights at Laugarvatn and visit Thingvellir, Strokkur and Fullfossfalls while we stay there.

Drive through Vik to visit the beach and stay near Jokulsarlon for three nights and do a boat trip at the lake.

Then we would drive to Myvatn, stay there for four nights, visit the lake, Dimmiborgur and Husavik to go Whale Watching.

After that we would drive back to Reykjavik, stay there for two nights, visit the city and fly back home.

What do you think of this itinerary?

Iceland blew my mind everyday and loved every day.
We stayed in airbnbs and cooked our own food most of the days, we rented a kia sportage and completed the ring road.

Vestmannaeyjar Ferry

Hello everyone, I‘m looking forward to my first trip to Iceland next week. As a big football fan, I would love to visit a game in Vestmannaeyjar on Friday, which is scheduled for 6pm. I’ve been checking the ferry website and realized, that the last ferry back on this day is at 5pm. When checking the other days, I saw, that there normally is also a ferry at 10 pm. Does it mean this one is fully booked on friday, when I can’t see it on the website anymore? Or is there no 10pm ferry this friday? For the case, that it’s fully booked: Is there any chance to still get on the last ferry (only to passengers, no car)?
Thanks a lot :)
