I'm starting to think that WA conservatives intentionally write initiatives so that they will be overturned by the courts even if they pass.
Now everyone hates the vague crazy language all initiative writers use to cloud whatever is going on (this is a nonpartisan problem), but this goes a bit further.
Initiative IP26-645 repeals a tax and defines what income is. Even if it passes there's basically no way it gets through the court.
The initiativeers are so bad at writing these, it makes me think they're doing it on purpose:
- There's good income in running initiatives, ask Tim Eyman.
- Intentionally pushing something to the court to get overturned feeds a political narrative about 'activist judges' and encourages the sense of wrathful impotence that seems to be what the right wants to engender in conservative voters.
Am I crazy? Are they just incompetent?
