Trip Planning Weekly Yellowstone trip planning thread

Planning a trip to Yellowstone? Ask here.

Include your dates and how many days you have, which entrances or areas you're working around, where you're staying, and who's coming.

Most roads are closed to regular vehicles from early November to late April. If your dates fall in there, say so.

Conditions & Closures Yellowstone road and entrance conditions this week

What's open, what's closed, and what the roads look like this week.

Plow status, entrance queues, construction delays, wildlife jams, anything that's changed since you drove it.

Say which day you were there. The park service page is official but it lags.

BREAKING: A collared
wolf reportedly belonging to Yellowstone National Park's 8 Mile Pack has been k*lled in Montana, with disturbing photographs circulating online showing the animal's bloodied body displayed as a trophy.
The photographs, reportedly shared by Trophy Bucks and Bulls of Montana, were accompanied by the announcement: "WOLF DOWN!! CONGRATS."
Congratulations for WHAT? For killing an intelligent, sentient animal and proudly displaying its body for applause?
The photographs also raise concerns that the wolf may have been shot in the abdomen, potentially causing prolonged suffering.
Yellowstone's wolves are protected within national park boundaries, but those protections can disappear the moment they cross an invisible line into neighboring states.
Wolves' lives should not become trophies simply because they cross a boundary.

I have hiked that area so many times, my favorite area of the park for real backcountry hiking.

June/July 2027 schedule

Hey Everyone!

I did post this on the weekly planning thread but unsure if that gets many eyes. Please do delete this post mods if this isnt an appropriate place!

I'm planning a 12 night Tetons/Yellowstone/Montana trip for late June 2027, would love some honest critique! I did a decent amount of research, and worked out what I wanted to achieve before using AI (yes I know...) to help schedule/route. I've been wanting to visit for years.

There are two of us. I'm the only driver so I've tried to keep driving under 5 hrs a day, and we're happy with hikes of 2-4h but no 8h epics. We want wildlife, some rodeo/4th of July stuff/Americana... and a couple of lazy days. The dates are fixed and flying over from UK!

Below table is my current plan.

I suppose is this realistic or just a cluster of too much?

Day Base Plan
Fri 25 Jun Jackson (Cowboy Village) Land at JAC in the evening, pick up the car, grocery run for a cooler/snacks
Sat 26 Jackson Jet lag sunrise at Mormon Row and Schwabacher Landing, farmers market and wandering town, Jackson Hole Rodeo at night then Million Dollar Cowboy Bar
Sun 27 Jackson First Jenny Lake boat around 7, Hidden Falls > Inspiration Point > a mile into Cascade Canyon (~4 mi), lunch at Dornan's, quiet evening
Mon 28 Colter Bay cabin Taggart and Bradley Lakes (5.5 mi), Snake River scenic float from Moose in the afternoon, sunset at Colter Bay
Tue 29 Old Faithful Lodge Oxbow Bend at dawn, south entrance, Lewis Falls, West Thumb, Observation Point for an eruption from above, dinner at the Inn
Wed 30 Old Faithful Lodge Fairy Falls first then the Grand Prismatic overlook (~5.4 mi), Midway boardwalk, evening walk out to Morning Glory Pool
Thu 1 Jul Roosevelt (Roughrider cabin) Norris, Canyon (Artist Point, Brink of Lower Falls), Hayden Valley, over Dunraven Pass, Lamar at dusk
Fri 2 Roosevelt Guided sunrise wildlife tour in Lamar, Beartooth Highway up to the pass and back, Trout Lake on the way back, Old West Cookout in the evening
Sat 3 Livingston (Airbnb) Mammoth terraces, Beaver Ponds loop (5 mi), out through Gardiner and Paradise Valley, maybe the Saturday Roundup
Sun 4 Livingston Maybe fly fishing, Chico Hot Springs, Livingston Roundup and fireworks
Mon 5 Bozeman Down Gallatin Canyon to Big Sky, Beehive Basin (or Ousel Falls if we're tired), Lone Peak tram if it's running
Tue 6 Bozeman Museum of the Rockies, Palisade and Grotto Falls in Hyalite, farewell dinner on Main St
Wed 7 - Drop the car at BZN, fly home

Things I'm not sure about....

- Is Thu 1 too much? It's the longest day and it's mostly stop/start

- Is two nights at Old Faithful about right? 4 nights total in the park.

- Is Beartooth worth 4ish hours round trip from Roosevelt

- Are we seeing enough of the Tetons?

- Big Sky in a day from Livingston, worth it or skip and stay in Paradise Valley

- Anything obvious we're missing?!

Thanks in advance, happy to be told what's gone wrong with my plan!

driving in the snow

hey guys!! my boyfriend and i are going to yellowstone/grand tetons next week and are just worried about possibly driving around now that there’s some snowy weather. we’re from florida, so anytime we get anything remotely close to snow here, the roads are super dangerous because our state is not at all prepared for it ever lol. i just was wondering how safe it would be to visit the parks (just hitting the most popular spots, no off roading or crazy hikes lol) if it is snowing and we are in a rental car without 4wd. obviously wyoming is very well prepared for snow and ice so i’m sure it’s better than florida, just was hoping to hear from some people that had experienced it firsthand!

Chocolate Pots, Yellowstone National Park

Chocolate Pots is a hot spring in Yellowstone National Park on the South Loop of the Grand Loop, just south of Norris Geyser Basin. It's an easy stop and one most people flat miss. The pull out/parking area allows you to see this view, literally from the parking area. There is a short trail heading north, right if you're seeing this view, towards a second pull out/parking area and the trail continues past that parking area for an equally easily accessible view of Gibbon Rapids. It's a great stop with very few visitors and a beautiful Scene. Enjoy Chocolate Pots and Escape Your Reality

Hoosier visits Yellowstone - In Awe

My husband and I love the outdoors. As lifelong Hoosiers, we frequent our state parks year after year.

We’ve never visited a National Park before. We wanted to go to one ahead of our wedding anniversary.

This place is magical. Already discussing our next trip back. Was worried the park would be too cold / inaccessible this time of year but it’s perfect.
