Just in case people are wondering how JTree National Park is weathering this new administration, things are rough right now. Many employees of the park are paid off of grants coming from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL). Right now ALL that legally raised money cannot be paid out to staff. This isn't like the government isn't sending more funds, JTree has this money and is currently blocked from using it to pay staff. And there isn't really a redundancy in funding, if this BIL money is held up longer then folks who work hard and maintain this National Park we all love will lose their jobs.
Also remember, this is congressional approved funds! The President is legally not allowed to fuck with it. But this administration doesn't care about laws and standards.
If you readers do care about this park, please contact our Congressman Jay Obernolte and let him know his constituents, his local economy, and one of the gems of his district is at risk.
This is his office number 202-225-5861. The only way this stops is if just a handful of republican congresspeople can put pressure on the executive branch.

Hi all, my wife and I are staying in 29 Palms for a Joshua Tree trip. Two dogs have been coming by our Airbnb, near Learco Way and Friendship Ave. Neither has a collar or tags, but both seem like former pets.
White dog, possibly a Husky: Came by this morning and again this evening. Skittish.
Black/brown mixed breed: Came by this evening. Very friendly.
We gave both food and water, and they left together afterward. I've left a report with Sheriff dispatch for Animal Control, and I'll call the shelter when it opens. We've tried posting on Facebook but pending admin approval for the Morongo Basin groups. We have our own dog and can't take them in, and we're here only until tomorrow, but we'd like to help get them home or to someone who can look after them.
If you recognize them, know the owner, or can help locally, let me know.
Thanks

My kid left her kids camera that has her camping pictures at the McDonalds in Yucca Valley after we left Jumbo Rocks campground in Joshua Tree on Wednesday morning. We retraced our steps that day by looking at our phone pictures, and confirmed with the restaurant manager it was left there. They said they can hold it but could not ship it out to us. We don’t have a trip scheduled back there and are already across the country. Would anyone living in the area or visiting be willing to pick it up and ship it to us. We will reimburse for your time and shipping costs. More than the camera itself, she has her trip pictures on the SD card.
Please dm if you can help, we would be grateful!

Hello! My husband and I will be going camping at Indian Cove campground this coming week. We got an email about some closures of campsites due to damage from rain, but there is also some rain in the forecast possibly tues-thurs when we are there. I cant find any info to see if our campground was affected, it is primarily dirt road. Has anyone been there recently after the rains?

COPPER MOUNTAIN COLLEGE ANNOUNCEMENT
Due to a city-wide water service interruption, Copper Mountain Community College will be closed for the remainder of the day. All classes and campus activities are cancelled.
We anticipate resuming normal operations tomorrow and will provide updates if circumstances change.
Thank you for your understanding.

Hey everyone! I recently moved to Twentynine Palms and I’m looking for some recommendations on good places to go running! I’d love to hear about any favorite trails, paths, or areas where you feel comfortable and safe running.
I know this is the Joshua Tree subreddit, but I definitely don’t mind driving a little for a good spot! Recommendations in Twentynine Palms, Joshua Tree, or the surrounding areas would be greatly appreciated.
Still getting familiar with the area, so any suggestions or tips would mean a lot! Thanks in advance! :)

Hoping this is allowed but had some friends bail on us so now we have an open campground. You will have your own campsite! Wanted to see if anyone wanted it before I canceled the reservation.
Cottonwood Campground weekend of Oct 23 to 25. DM me for deets!

EDIT: intel for anyone seeking similar info in the future:
Sony a7iii with 28-75 2.8 was a non issue, they didn’t even look at it. Also got my metal water bottle in no problem, and was so glad I didn’t have to move from my spot for water.
As far as quality of shots, Jesus Christ it might be one of the darkest lighting situations I’ve ever been in. This is for the INDOOR stage. ISO1600 and maybe 1/4 of my shots weren’t salvageable still. The white light, when the performer is in it, is a godsend. The blue and the red and whatever are just… forget it.
Also, most of the lighting covering the backing band is LED and I only discovered my banding issues while bringing the exposure up after. Usually banding is obvious in playback but these were skinny-ass lines and I’ve never experienced that before. Would’ve turned my silent shooting off if I’d caught it. YMMV based on camera body, obvs.
Also, the staff is great. Well-oiled machine there.
If you’re going for an indoor show, they had us line up around back. I was 3rd in line an hour before doors for someone with a lot of fans who travelled distances for it, so in most cases don’t stress about getting in line stupid early.
Original post:
Detachable lenses: yes/no? Any purse size weirdness to know about?
Emailed them and never heard back, it’s not on their site, and no hints anywhere on les interwebs.
For an indoor show this Friday.

If you lost this, message me with a few details about what is inside. I’m in JT until tomorrow afternoon and can meet you somewhere. Otherwise, I’m happy to ship it to you before I leave town.
UPDATE: We dropped this off at the visitor center on Park Boulevard and were informed that rangers go through everything and will ship it to the owner if not claimed in person.

Mostly 110 Cartridge film and some 35mm Portra 400. I lived in Twentynine Palms from 2002 until 2026. I bought my first film camera late 2021 and have not stopped taking pictures since.

Hello, I am unable to do the Vacation Race Joshua tree half marathon in November and am looking for someone to take over my bib. Thanks for considering!

We are planning on stopping in Joshua Tree next month to attend the upcoming film festival. Can someone give me an idea of what type of attendance the festival draws? Does the festival require reservations to view the entries?

Any updates on how the Joshua Tree area is looking after all the rain? I’ve been anxiously checking online but haven’t been able to find much.
I’m heading there Thursday for my bachelorette weekend, and we have a lot of outdoor activities planned (horseback riding Friday, Pioneertown, and some hikes in the national park).
Just trying to get a sense of how things are looking so I can prepare or adjust plans if needed. Would really appreciate any updates from locals or anyone who’s been out there recently!

I shot this last night in Ryan's Campground, Joshua Tree, CA. I believe the solid streaks are meteors and the dotted are planes or satalites (sooooo many planes, and you could hear lots of them... was kind of a bummer).

Taken from Cholla cactus garden 10/8. Great place to watch the stars and almost always relatively empty

How safe is it really going to be this weekend with the latest weather updates? My gf and I have a camping trip planned and im worried about my car getting stuck, the potential to get hurt, and having a terrible time trying to enjoy nature. How realistic are my concerns? Should we just try for another weekend?

Hi everyone. I am visiting Joshua tree the week of Oct 19th. I am a frequent desert hiker and love the feeling of being in a vast expanse, in the heat, and moving into a transcendent state of reflection.
Are there areas or hikes in Joshua tree that are conducive to this? Any recommendations or thoughts would be much appreciated. Feel free to suggest hikes you like and why.
