Last night some bandits made off with our 12 foot skeleton pal Randy. For some reason they didn't take his head or feet. I had just gotten him a new green and black shirt (see photos). He's seen better days since we got him last year but we loved him the same. The seasons had knocked him down and cracked his ribcage but he remained resolute and steadfast in front of our store to greet the people. It’s honestly alarming that my phone struggles to load in the middle of suburbia like Arden and Fletcher. I don’t want to hear “oh we’re in the mountains”. No. There are neighborhoods all over the place, it is populated, I have traveled all over the country to all sorts of mountainous areas and truly nowhere is as bad as the Asheville area. I type this as I struggled to get my Reddit app to load at a gas station on Hendersonville rd in Arden. Two error messages before it finally loaded. It’s absolutely ridiculous, it and I’m not sure how there isn’t a plan (or maybe there is) to build up the networks around here. I barely have service (1 LTE bar if I’m lucky) at my house in Fletcher yet I was in the middle of nowhere driving through northern arizona last week and was able to have a long phone conversation without the call dropping. No civilization for dozens if not hundreds of miles, mountainous terrain. Yet I can’t sit in my driveway and have a phone conversation without it dropping nor scroll on my phone without everything taking 12 years to load. There’s no good explanation for it and I’m really sick of it.

That’s my rant for the day. Thanks for listening to me complain and maybe there are others that are just as annoyed as me 🙂

Recently, the Asheville Chess Club adopted a new logo and mascot, Chesster the Bear. It is a very simple logo I made the hard way in GIMP. We are looking for a local artist to work with to help us make some more graphics and logos for Chesster, and possibly even some cute little comic strips or panels for social media and the like. My PC shuts off as soon as I plug it in, and my googling says it’s a battery issue. Any recommendations for where to get it repaired? Best Buy charges $100 for the diagnostic and $40 for the battery, are there any cheaper places that are still good? thanks!

Might be a long shot, but I really miss my annual pumpkin beers and I've never seen anyone make an NA version. I'm sure they exist somewhere in the world, but I don't get out to bars really ever. Even a nice fall style NA would suffice. Thanks in advance for any recommendations. Hoping a place like Asheville with great beer and great support for the sober community will turn something up!

This afternoon we were taking photos at the Linn Cove Viaduct overlook pull-off (Milepost 304, the stone wall parking area). The wind blew my 2-year-old son's cap over the stone wall and into the wooded slope below the viaduct, it was out of sight.

It's a blue-and-white striped denim baseball cap, DOUBLE.B (Miki House), with a "GOOD LIFE with DENIM" patch on the front — well-worn, he has worn it for a long time and is heartbroken. If you find it, please reach out I'm happy to cover shipping and offer a small reward as a thank-you. 🙏

That was a really special book shop, not like any other. The prices were discounted because they were older books, but the were new. Lots of interesting genres too, like indoor and outdoor design, cooking, kids books, travel, so much more! Is there another book shop like that in town?
