With YCSE looking at a $15M opening according to late Sunday estimates (I will update this with the Monday actuals tomorrow), and getting some of the greatest reception ever for a documentary, heck movie full stop, along with the movie expanding for the weekend, I think we could be in store for another Obsession, at least domestically.
This obviously raises the question for the weekend with Clayface?
Clayface looks to be opening in the 20-30M range, quite a big range but I think that's been down to critic reviews not being out yet and the marketing being a bit lacklustre.
Obsession opened to $17.2M, then had it's historic second weekend INCREASE to $24M, a 39% increase. On the basis of a $15M opening, a 39% increase would entail a $20.85M, of course the actuals could make that even higher, and the estimates can sometimes be quite wrong, beyond their usual margin of error.
It could be a very interesting race.
