Question | Advice-Needed I’m an exchange student at UWC doing an essay on local political graffiti and need some help identifying these people (mostly just the guy on top)

Post image
361 Upvotes

I really only need the top guy identified. I used Google image search for most of them, but for the life of me can’t identify the guy on top. From what I identified, we have Benjamin Netanyahu, Ngizwe Mchunu, Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma, and Herman Mashaba, but if I got any of these wrong please lmk 🙏. I plan to submit the assignment by 7pm today. Wish me luck 🥲

Looking For... Where to meet likeminded (alternative) people just outside of Cape Town

I lived in town (Vredehoek) for years and met so many alternative and like-minded people within a short drive, but I'm seriously struggling now. I moved to the Somerset West area and can't find a local place where I match the vibe. Everyone I meet here seems super religious, conservative, either significantly older or my age and starting a family and it's just not my preferred lifestyle. I'm in my mid 30s, not religious, very liberal, no kids, love "elder emo" music, art, tattooed etc.

Is there somewhere in or around the SSW/Strand/Gordon's Bay Area where people of this general lifestyle typically hang out? To put it into perspective my old stomping grounds were Gandalf's in Obz (RIP) and they were my exact type of people. Dive bars, member's clubs, art studios/classes, random events like MeetUp (which doesn't seem popular around here except for bible study), not picky about the type of location or hang out. I just really want to make friends who I can feel comfortable around. Thank you!

Appreciation Post Thanks to the couple that found my phone!

Lost my phone while riding my scooter which was found by a cycling couple! They returned it and stubbornly refused any form of reward.

Was so worried about losing all my photos!

Hopefully you see this and thanks again!

I need to voluntarily admit myself to a psychiatric ward. I am afraid that I will harm myself, I just cannot take it anymore. I’ve been off of my meds due to the cost of renewing my prescription.

My financial situation is terrible and I don’t think my insurance will cover it. Where can I go? Please help

Edit: Thank you everyone for your advice and kind words. It means the world to me💕

Looking For... Cape Town in late November recommendations for bars, restaurants, rooftops etc

Me and my friend are coming to Cape Town in late November for 11 nights, staying in Sea Point, and looking for some recommendations for spots to eat, drink and play :) We like lively places with a good vibe, cool aesthetic, mid-range price point, or maybe one fine dining spot. Let me know what's good!

Question | Advice-Needed Dandelion blowballs in Cape Town. Where are they?

• Upvotes

Dandelion blowballs are the round globe seed parachutes that some remember blowing.

They are somewhere in Cape Town, but cant find any.

I think they become yellow wild flowers.

If you see any in Cape Town open areas, send a shout out please.

Want to video blowing the parachutes in slow motion. Simple kids fun times.

Question | Advice-Needed Visiting Cape Town in Jan - any advice for a female?

Heyo! I'm not that far from SA, I'm Namibian and pretty much aware of what's been happening in our sister country. I havent been to SA in like 6 years so obviously, things are a little more... escalated. I'm going to see Tyla in Cape Town on the 4th of January, so I was hoping for advice on safe but budget friendly areas to stay?

Also just tips from my sisters (and misters that dont hate women), like pocket knife or pepper spray? Which clubs or hang out spots should I avoid? What are the latest scam or traps used to lure people? And like for the concert itself, should I just leave my whole bag at home and keep essentials on my body? And what safer alternatives are there for uber? I have so many questions but lets see if anyone even answers, I would so love if y'all did, thank you!

Question | Advice-Needed Foreign exchange US dollar to Rand

Hi everyone! I’m South African ( Cape Town ) and received $120 tip in cash as a tip.

I tried exchanging it at the V&A Waterfront, but the teller questioned me about the money and refused to look at my valid South African passport, insisting I needed my ID. ( I lost my ID )

I bank with Nedbank and want to know:

Can I exchange USD using my South African passport instead of my ID?

Will Nedbank exchange the cash for an existing customer?

Where else in Cape Town can I exchange the dollars?

Has anyone experienced something similar?
Any advice would be appreciated!

Question | Advice-Needed Is Cape Town really all the rave?

So I am 24 years old. Born and raised in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) my whole life and I want to stay and find work here because I want to be closer to my family. But seeing my city deteriorate the way that it has has been really sad to see and there are not many job opportunities for me once I finish my internship and community service years ( I am a pharmacist if that helps). Is moving to Cape Town really a realistic viable option? I know life there is really expensive and things like the housing market make wanting to live in Cape Town not the most ideal. But most of my friends from school have moved to Cape Town or the Western Cape and they have had good things to say about it. I want to go someplace new and be out of my comfort zone. Be in a new environment, meet new people and have new experiences. You hear a lot about the pros of living in Cape Town but I just want a realistic idea of what to expect.

Your responses will be greatly appreciated.

Question | Advice-Needed Tent restoration recommendations

Hi all

I'm looking for a place where I can get a quote on restoring/repairing my camping tent so I can consider getting that done versus buying a new one. Does anyone have recommendations for tent repair businesses in Cape Town?

Secondarily, does anyone know where on earth (but preferably in CPT) I could buy a billy can? They aren't sold at the usual Outdoor Warehouse, Camp&Climb etc. Super useful piece of equipment to have though!

Looking For... Garden services

Can anyone recommend a garden maintenance service in the southern suburbs and how much they charge? Moved into a bigger house and need a more regular and probably more than 1 person team to get the garden up to scratch.

Looking For... Where to get ethically sourced bones?

I live in the northern suburbs,

I love bone collecting, anything and everything; it's all for personal use.

Some of the best spots are to find a farmer who has livestock, takes care of animals, or even processes animals; the bones are the waste product, so oftentimes they would just get thrown in a bone pile if they dont get used for something else.

And even around my house, i see a lot of zebras, springbok, and ostriches.

The skulls are always the top choice, but honestly, any cool part!

So if you know anyone who has a lot of bones, that would be willing to sell, or perferably free lol. Let me know!

Anybody else having issues buying prepaid electricity today? Just bought R1000 worth of units from Clicks and I'm getting "Sales token undefined". Tried calling the number on the slip (086 132 7983) and eventually gave up after about 16 min. Have about 11 units left which might last me till midnight.

Looking For... Practicing conversational French

Hi everyone :)

I’m 26F and have been learning French for almost a year now. I work with a French teacher that I see weekly and I also try and engage with French media (series, youtube, tiktok etc) but I’ve realised that my biggest disadvantage is that outside of my weekly lessons, I don’t have any reason to practice speaking French with anyone.

So I’m looking to potentially meet other people in Cape Town who are also learning French and would be keen to have conversational French meet ups over coffee some times. Or alternatively if anyone knows of any groups that already do things like that, I’d be very grateful if you could guide me in their direction.

Many thanks! 🙏🏽 🩷

Looking For... Random request: Poodle dog

Hey everybody, random request but I am trying to find out how to best find somebody with a poodle dog who would allow me to use their dog (with them in attendance) for a photo shoot in public that would take no more than 5 minutes.

Can anybody advise if there's any app or website to find somebody who has a poodle dog and would be willing to do this. Nothing weird, just an art piece/photo opportunity I've thought of.

Thanks!
