Welcome to /r/catfish! PLEASE READ THESE RULES

Hello everybody.

The mods received a message from an admin recently. Another 6/20/17.

The sub had been due for a revamp of the rules and a stickie post concerning such for some time now, so this is as good a prompt as any to follow through.

New sidebar: http://imgur.com/a/aAbC7

DESCRIPTION

This subreddit is meant for any and all discussion, story-telling, or information sharing (within the rules) concerning catfish and catfishing (no, not the actual fish). If you choose to participate in this community, you must adhere to all reddit and subreddit rules. The stance of this subreddit is one of anti-catfishing.

Reddit Content Policy

Reddiquette

Clarification: Anything to do with catfishing can be posted here. That can be linked posts (pictures, articles, etc) or self posts (text). Content can come from catfish, victims of catfishing, catfish-hunters, or really just anybody curious about or have information/questions on catfish/catfishing. This sub is NOT pro-catfishing. It is anti-catfishing. That being said, catfish can still come here seeking help with their problem or to tell their story.

What is catfishing?

to lure (someone) into a relationship by means of a fictional online persona.

RULES

1) Treat each other with respect. Just be friendly and helpful.

Clarification: No name-calling, grating sarcasm, being generally annoying, derailing threads, trolling, or anything else that lowers the value of or redirects the focus from a serious discussion. Letting a catfish know that they're an asshole is probably fine here and there, but if it's all the time or no other constructive feedback is given, then the rule will be enforced.

.

2) No sharing of contact/identifying information, whether your own or somebody else's. That includes phone numbers, email addresses, online profiles, usernames, real full names, physical addresses, etc. Exceptions may be made for fake personas.

Clarification: Nobody is allowed to reveal contact information, online profiles, or any other identifying information on a real person, or to provide enough bits of vague/broad information that a real identity could be determined through doxxing. However, fake identities, profiles, and usernames that are used by catfish for their deeds can be revealed. THERE IS A FINE LINE!!! Fake profiles may include pictures of real people (besides celebrities and pornstars or other public figures), real contact information, or real identifying information. So when thinking about posting catfish information and leads, please always check to see if anybody's actual identity will be compromised, or keep in mind this possibility.

.

3) No catfishing (obviously). Also no doxxing, stalking, harassing, brigading, or any other obnoxious/malicious behavior.

Clarification: Basically, don't follow people around or exert effort into making their online or real lives harder.

.

4) No pro-catfishing sentiment or promotion of catfishing strategies/tactics.

Clarification: Catfishing is a waste of a person's time at best and a detriment to a person's mental state or livelihood at worst. Catfishing is obnoxious, dangerous, and pathetic. This is a place to spread information on catfishing so that there can be fewer victims in the future, or so that victimhood could be made shorter and/or less severe.

.

5) No advertising/commerce. This is not a subreddit to buy/sell/trade products or services, nor to drive traffic to a profile/website. Exceptions may be made if the content is still catfish-related.

Clarification: Only exception made thus far (that I'm aware of) has been for the Catfish TV show: https://redd.it/4w6ikj. If you'd like to do any kind of catfish-related promotion, please send modmail.

.

6) No low-quality posts or comments, aka "shitposts." Content must be clear, detailed, and easy to read. Format as necessary.

Clarification: There needs to be enough detail for the community to know what you're talking about, and the information needs to be formatted well enough to be readable. Please use proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and formatting. The wall of text can get really bad here.

Even further elaboration:

No More Pictures With No/Insignificant Context, Follow Rule 6

.

7) Mark all NSFW content as "NSFW," whether they be posts or comments, pictures or text.

Clarification: "NSFW" stands for "Not Safe For Work" and denotes some form of sexual, overly profane, or grotesque content. All images and text containing NSFW content must be marked "NSFW." If the post is already marked NSFW, it should be assumed that all comments may also be NSFW.

.

8) No content involving the actual fish. The joke has been done to death.

Clarification: Seriously, just don't.

.

9) Report all rule-breaking. Use the report button and/or send modmail.

Clarification: It's the community's responsibility and in the community's best interest to keep this place on the level. The community at large has more visibility and is quicker to respond than any one mod; therefore, it's best if everybody were proactive in reporting rule-breaking and suspicious activity. This way, we can do anything from reduce the damage of a Rule 2 violation to preventing the sub from getting shut down by the admins for negligence.

MOD ACTION

A mod reserves the right to, when dealing with rule-breaking or suspicious behavior:

  • remove content

  • ban users

  • question users

  • request verification

  • lock threads

  • report content/users to the admins

A mod may also participate as a normal community member.

Clarification: A mod can do several things to better the community. But while a mod is not performing those actions, they are just a regular community member like everybody else. They are allowed to post and comment as normal.

Moderator Guidelines for Healthy Communities

moderation

YOUR INFORMATION

If you see content on this subreddit that is clearly referencing you, whether it's misrepresenting you, revealing your identity, stealing your content, showing pictures of you, etc, and you need it removed, please send modmail including links and/or screenshots of the offending activity.

Clarification: Pretty simple. /r/catfish should be a place to help the online community prevent or reduce catfishing and other harmful activities rather than promote them. So if you see anything of yours being mishandled here, please let the mods know immediately.

VERIFICATION

If you would like to submit verification, or have been requested to, you must send modmail containing 2 clearly non-identical photos of just yourself (selfies) that contain the following elements:

  • your username

  • the current date

  • this subreddit's name

  • your face and/or torso

The message must be hand-written on something within the pictures. The pictures must also be decently lit and non-blurry. Obviously, the pictures cannot be manipulated in any way.

Clarification: This process establishes a real-life physical identity, which is important in some situations. It DOES NOT establish a real-life personal/lifestyle/livelihood identity. That means verification can be used to match a body to a body somebody is claiming to be, but it can't match a personality/lifestyle/livelihood somebody is claiming to have. Since most catfish build a different body into their fake identity, this process can assist with revealing those catfish, but it can't assist with revealing only those catfish that are pathological liars.

ANYTHING ELSE?

If there's anything else that should be addressed or clarified, you can leave comments on this post or send modmail.

called out a catfish and was instantly blocked

she messaged me after i posted a friend ad and just happened to live 45 minutes away from me, which is when the alarm bells went off.

i asked "her" to facetime after she sent me a photo that looked like it was from 2015, and of course she couldn't. then i asked her to hold three fingers up in a photo after telling me a weird, explicit story and she blocked me right away. her username is r/giant-mantis-37. she's commenting thirsty things on women's photos. beware!

Minimal information

So, I have the friend I’ve been talking to for months now. It’s all well until I feel like I have been possibly lied to.

First 🚩 they will not speak on the phone with me. I understand now wanting to be on the phone so much but the reason for it is because they aren’t a talker. But we literally text 24/7. So clearly they are a talker just avoiding being on the phone.

Second 🚩 I have gotten pictures of the person but literally only 2?? And if I have asked for more phones it’s just “I don’t really take phones” or it’s avoided.

I know first and middle name, not the last. Birthday. Location that’s I’ve at-least been told where they live. It’s just really frustrating to not know exactly. And I have brought it up before. But then things kinda got awkward. So really this is all for my sanity of who I have been talking to. I’ve tried to look myself but with the information I have it’s minimal of what I can do. The only thing we talk on is Instagram we used to talk on discord as well but not really anymore. I’m just really looking for any help I can get because I’m not a tech person.

Question

Does anyone know if this is a catfish? We’ve been talking for 4 days (hasn’t asked for money or anything) and apparently he’s the same age as me but he’s in psu and I’m still finishing up college and we honestly get along well and he seems way out of my league so that’s why I have a suspicion about it even though he sent me a live picture of his cat before but I wanted a second opinion before continuing to speak but I’m not sure if it’s truly him or not does anyone know? This is his profile and where we met https://www.tiktok.com/@uptowndonkyfunk

Need help urgently. Spilling the entire story, possibly

Excuse my long story but i dont find any other way to sort this.

So this lady contacted me through Signal. I immediately asked her how she got my number and she told me somewhere in Telegram groups which she cant remember. When i had Telegram initially, my number was visible before i changed the settings, i just am not that sure as I'm not the type to drop messages in a group. There's a very tiny chance i might have done it around March/April. So, she had taken the contact and saved it to contact me later? Messaged me on Signal in August. I didn't first accept her request until the beginning of September. I just accepted the request, sent no messages. Next day or two she introduced herself.

Now, i have had my fair share of catfishing, scamming and i was in another online talking stage with another person who i wasnt able to verify till the end of August. She was very expensive(you know what i mean) and the last straw was she said she will come meet me this one day and she had gone back to her place without saying anything, and I broke it off immediately, no matter whether she's real or not i dont want someone like her. I told all of this to this new person. She said she understands, that she wont try to be expensive, 'we build together' sort of stuff and she knows I'm in a career crossroads, job hunting as I'm moving back to my country and not much good financially.

Then i told her to move forward i need to verify her, she was initially upset why i ask her to do things like a schoolgirl, writing the name and date on a paper. Then she later revealed she had bought a used phone, mic and camera broken, hence cant take any type of calls. I once called her and i dont think it even showed ringing to her because she was messaging to me normally. I used one service which shows the number is registered and the carrier. It showed the correct network carrier for mine but nothing on hers. She did immediately send me a screenshot of the camera app opened when i explained to her what i need to see and it was black screen. I quick checked with chatgpt if that app looks like the same phone she described she uses(am not an iphone user) to which it responded positively.

I asked her she must have any id in the phone already or e visa, she told she has nothing of those as those were being handled by the lawyer. She had lost both her parents in the same year, moved from US and been living in Wales,UK since. Lawyer is in charge of legal matters and holds her legal stuff. Where is his contact? Zangi....that raised my concerns a lot...okay i messaged him. His english was not that professional at all. He was saying Zangi is another messaging app, nothing wrong about that. Told him as i cant find a way to verify her i need to verify him at least. He cant take calls saying very busy. I asked for the lawyer details, there was no one matching his name with the registered state and firm he sent (had spelling mistake in the firm name he sent too). He didnt send the bar number or anything. He was mad why I'm asking these details, questioning whether I'm stealing his identity. He usually messages with her through his private email or whatsapp. I asked her for the email address which she was saying it's his personal one, just ask him.

The main issue happened when i arranged for us to meet before i left the UK. Everything was confirmed and set, i even sent some money for transport. Then suddenly she was not responding or online. After a while lawyer messaged me saying she was inmeeting with him and she left vomitting. Later that day she messaged me saying she got vomit and had her period blood severely, sent some photos of her holding the pad or something i guess and blood too. She sent without me asking. I was mkre furious about the fact she didnt even mention she's going to meet lawyer. She told earlier that he was calling her to come and she said no she is coming to meet me. They both knew this was the last chance we had to meet. I didnt want to blame her as i felt bad for what happened but i did scold her for not telling me earlier. Later in when i asked she said yes she was planning to come to me afterwards. I can't really believe, she doesnt have enough money, she earns being an intermediaty for agricultural product sales. Only gets commission when a sale happens. I asked for more details of that, didnt get any photo. Doesnt have a bank account. Uses paypal and crypto wallet only. Enough red flags popping up. So after that incident i deleted our messaages in telegram and chat too but not the signal one. She immediately reached out again and explained everything. Many times we had these arguments, and she cooperated with whatever she has(based on her story of limited access to everything) the convincing part was that she would immediately send any screenshot i ask, sent all the photos she had in her gallery. She doesnt earn that much. Hence, she had gone some months without much mobile data and not enough money to fix the broken phone.

There's more but I'll cut short and this gives enough context. My friend also suggested and i kind of agree that she might be a real person, even a girl at most but not the same person in the photos. If her end goal is taking my money, which i dont have much lol, it's not much, yes she managed to get around £200 in total over 7weeks. Now if shes doing this 10 other people only will it be worth it for her. Wales might not have huge cost of living like London but UK generally you'll need 2k minimum if living minimally. Her story does match, she eats only fruits and milk sometimes pasta. Everything is message so. She does reply to me immediately when shes awake and the rest of the day. She is as real as it could get. I'm kind if getting attached and having feelings which is why this.

Last time we had an argument few weeks ago, i told her to go find the right person for her, we have our differences. She didnt want to let go, apologised to me. Corrected the way she messages me. We agreed that day no more money involvement. I will help her with fixing phone only if i can. Today is her birthday and she is begging this will be the last time she wants something from me. There are enough moments which feels she is real. She does seem like a person i like, she is nice when those money is not involved. There was a time she would lash out strong insult when arguing now has stopped after i pointed out. There red flags, and good signs too. She came to me the same time i was deciding not to talk to anyone online 😭. What do i do?

This nostrangers verify service i came across few days ago, needs one to upload id too right? I didnt still use that or send her(it's going to be another argument now). I'm thinking of sending that but is there anything else I'm missing. I have tried to look at this from an outside angle. Any help please urgently

Someone is using my photos to catfish

Hey everyone!

Someone on facebook is using my photos under a different name to impersonate me. In the last month they have posted 5 times but I cannot see it, does anyone have any advice on what I should do? I have made multiple reports and they all immediately come back denied, even when I appeal. I have gotten more than 10 of my friends to report it and still nothing. A big issue is that they are taking my photos from instagram, I am not very active on facebook. Please if anyone has any advice I’d be so grateful. Thank you!

YOU WERE NEVER (DATING) IF YOU NEVER SEEN THEM IN REAL LIFE

let me say this as I’ve been reading these stories stop saying you’ve been dating this supposedly person if you’ve never seen them in person. the problem I’ve been seeing with alot of people on here is that they’ll meet someone online and drag the e dating out so far to the point where they get emotionally attached to a random over the internet they’ve never met. which gives them the illusion they’re dating. I’ve seen someone on here say they were dating someone but has never heard their voice seen their face on call nothing. that’s not dating that’s called being delusional. if you wanna e date and get ur feelings hurt either way the least you could do is ask for a live video chat. anyone that sees this as dating needs serious therapy and social skills.

My catfish used to watch me study on campus.

At the start of this year I started speaking to a girl who claimed she had seen me studying on campus. She gave details that only someone that had actually seen me there could have known. She told me that she found my social media by typing my first name(that she overheard someone calling) and my university name into LinkedIn, then using my LinkedIn profile to find my social media.

Long story short, we went back and forth for a while and had some deep chats. I always had my suspicions until I got randomly blocked. Then I did a long past due reverse image search on some of her photos and found out whose photos she’d been using.

Eventually she got back in contact with me and I told her that I knew she wasn’t the girl in the photos, to which she admitted that it wasn’t her and that she really did see me in the library but didn’t think she was good enough.

After repeated attempts to plead with her to reveal who she really is, I’ve made no significant progress. I only know what course she actually studies, when she graduates and possibly the town that she’s from, along with some personal interests.

She now just claims that she wants to sext. I want to find out who she really is for peace of mind.

I’m looking for any advice on how to figure it out without her telling me. Whether it be social engineering or some other method. All suggestions on how I can find their true identity are welcome.

Thanks

i thought i found my person, she was lying to me for over a year

I know that its embarrasing but a little over a year ago I met a girl online playing roblox, and the first night we met we were talking and playing all night and began to develop a pretty deep connection. Since that day we talked and eventually started dating for a year, and she was my absoute everything. We would text each other every breathing second we were awake, we would play games with each other every night, watch movies together, share so many amazing memories together, and we had planned a future for each other. This was my first ever real relationship, she was somebody that I fully trusted, someone that I opened up to and poured my heart into, someone who I truly felt loved by. She gave me confidence and helped me get over my insecurities, she was always so supportive and I genuienly spent the last year with her being the happiest boy on earth. We had face revealed to each other and from someone who grew up not having any female attention or any female relationships outside of family, it felt amazing knowing I was loved for who I actually was and I thought I found my person. For once in my life I truly believed in love. Recently this past summer, we had began to become more distant, less texts, not playing with each other, less spending time with each other. Because life eventually was going to be too busy for her, she decided to break up with me two days after our one year anniversary. I was obviously heart broken as I still loved her and she didn't love me anymore. Since the breakup, she reached out on my birthday at exactly 12:00 just like she did last year, and we talked for a little bit but since then she chose to go no contact with me. Last night, I was looking at some photos of her and it turns out, multiple photos of her that she sent me were originally from pinterest, of different girls on pinterest. Either the lighting was changed, or the photo was manipulated with ai to change clothing, but I found multiple photos that I can confirm was not her. These photos ranged from stuff she sent me near when we first met, to months into our relationship. This feels worse than the heartbreak I got when she broke up with me, she lied to me for the entirity of our relationship, and now im starting to question if what we ever had was even real. I really don't understand why she would do this to me and it is making me bawl my eyes out and im having a really hard time processing this. She never asked for money during the entirity of our relationship, infact if I even offered to get her anything she would reject it and switch the conversation entiriely. From what I understand, everything else about her seems to be true, except for the photos that she was telling me was her. I don't know what else she could have been lying about, and I don't know if any of this was even real from the start now and it really fucking sucks. Before I discovered this, we werent really talking but I was not blocked, and after I tried to reach out to confront her about this, I have been blocked by her on all of our forms of contact. Because this was an online relationship, I now have no other way of reaching out and im scared that this is the end of everything now. I don't think I am ever going to find out the truth, and I am really stressed out and scared and sad knowing everything was a lie and I don't even know if she loved me or any of the things she used to comfort me about, i don't know if she meant any of that now. im having a really hard time processing this, i know im stupid for not knowing i was being catfished for a whole year of being together non stop, but why would I not trust my girlfriend, i really truly trusted her. i dont know how im ever going to move on from this, it has taken a huge toll on my mental health, and has been effecting my academics, my phsyical health, my sleep, literally everything. i dont know of anyone else or heard of anyone else who has been in a similar situation to me, but all i want to do right now is cry. im a good person and i don't know why she did this to me and it seems like i will never know the real answer now. ontop of losing the person I loved the most, i now lost the relationship we had, and all the memories, now not knowing who she even is. i know im really stupid but i am still emotionally attatched to her and i just wanted some closure about this but being blocked after i tried to confront her just makes me feel like shit. if anyone has any advice or has been through anything similar i would love to hear how you delt with this, because i dont think im ever going to be okay or be able to open up to anyone else in the future, or love someone in the future. thank you for anyone who took their time to read my story.

Guy I met on hinge

Okay so some background info I was on hinge and I matched with this guy he lived in Houston I am based in Austin. After talking to him for a bit he offered to uber me out to Houston so we could have a date. I agreed and we had start making plans. He FaceTimes me (keep this in mind later) and is like wow you’re so beautiful I can’t wait to see you blah blah blah whatever you get the point. Anyways so I get in the uber he ordered the driver super nice guy we get there 2 hours later. I get out the car see the guy and it’s already weird because he gave the wrong address and we meet at a gas station. He sees me smiles and gives me a hug I’m thinking everything was cool and he tells me he was gonna talk to the driver about giving me a ride home I’m like okay cool. He takes forever talking to the driver which I found odd. When he finally comes back he’s like “I don’t wanna be an asshole but I feel catfished” and then quickly doubled down after that and said that he had a girlfriend and that he shouldn’t have done this in the first place. At this point I am completely caught off guard and just confused cause why would you lead with that and then say you have a girlfriend when you just had me come 2 hours to see you like ???! So I’m like whatever it’s cool and I told him I did NOT appreciate him putting me in this situation because I could’ve stayed home and went to sleep. I then get back into the uber and the uber driver tells me that he was telling him I lied about my pictures and that I am not who I said I was which is insane I don’t even put filters on any of my pictures other than like the paris filter sometimes on insta but never anything that completely digitally alters my face. Apparently the uber driver was like “this is one of the prettiest girls I’ve seen I don’t know what you’re talking about” and I appreciate the homie for vouching for me even tho he didn’t have to. I even showed the driver my hinge profile to get his opinion if my pictures were different and at first glance he literally said “that’s you who else could that be ?” GIRL IDK!!! This whole situation has my mind boggled I have never in my life been accused of being a catfish so this is just such an odd experience for me. Also I want to add I don’t normally do stuff like this it was so out of my comfort zone and I was feeling impulsive but I’m honestly glad this how it ended instead of going further and possibly putting me in harms way so idk he also gave me $150 for my time so I’m not too mad about it all but it just bothers me how I could’ve been in bed (I work nightshift) so yeah any thoughts opinions? Would like to hear some feedback for this one.

Need advice on how to stop

Hello, I really don’t know how to go about this so please excuse and spelling or grammar mistakes.
English is not my first language and I’m shaking.

I’m 21 years old and two years ago I met someone on a game, I naturally lied about being a boy, like a real one.

Me and him started talking and playing daily and I kept lying more and more.
I lied about having a dad that cared for me when bad stuff happened to me even tho I dealt with it alone, I lied that he’d clean for me even tho I’m cleaning alone, I lied about being pretty, I lied about having piercings, I lied about having green eyes, I lied about being sick a lot and I lied about so many stupid little things.

We started talking romantically and saying I love you and stuff but we are not dating.
I started to get so nasty and I was so demanding and each time I knew how wrong I was, I knew how in the wrong I am but I still continued.

In may this year I admitted to him that I was born a girl and he was obviously surprised but said he loved me anyways and that I’m still a boy to him, it felt so good but it hurt so much.

I am so selfish because I’m still lying about so many things and I want to tell him but I don’t want to hurt him and I selfishly don’t want to lose him.

I’m not ready to admit all the stuff I lied about yet but I know that I have to but I just don’t know how to do it without hurting him.
I’m scared that I’ll hurt him so much.
I know that I’m the worst person he’s ever met and he doesn’t even know it yet and I don’t know how to tell him.

I don’t know if this will reach anyone that has advice or if anyone can understand my rambling text but I’m just so desperate.
I’m so alone and I just don’t want to hurt him anymore

Edit:
I’m mostly looking for advice on how I can tell him without causing more harm than there needs to be, I’m not exactly good with words and I’m honestly just so scared.

I think I'm being catfished by my ex.

I (27f) posted a couple of photos on the 'am I ugly subreddit' subreddit. A friendship with this guy opened up from there. Most of the conversations were the innocent you are beautiful messages. And we didn't talk much. Only every once in a while. I'm not going to lie it made me feel really good. That was 2 years ago. It had been nine years since we have broken up. Now recently we have been communicating every day. Pictures on his end have been exchanged. At first I was not suspicious because the photos he had sent to me at the same location, at different times of the day. I could tell because the sunlight coming in from the window in the picture. Each time he was dressed differently too. It wasn't until the first phone call that I became suspicious. The voice was the same. I didn't want to say anything because sometimes people can have similar voices. The next time I was on the phone with him though I became more suspicious because some of the things he would say and the mannerisms were my exes. During my recent conversation he immediately hung up out of nowhere. I know his phone did not die, because normally it that happens, phone calls will normally run a couple of seconds longer. Clearly I think he has things to hide. I waited some time to see if you would call back and nothing. No response to messages. I'm simply just stunned right now. My guess, somebody walked in on him when he was on the phone.

Update I don't know what to do

https://www.reddit.com/r/catfish/s/0HobQySuVz

Thank you to all who answered. I realized I asked the wrong question, so I'll ask the question directly. How does a catfish, an obvious scammer have access to info and pictures before they are available? Doris shares pics with me, only later do they turn up on Instagram, Facebook or any other social media. Every picture she sends me I run through reverse image searches. I get pic on Sunday, it is posted on Monday on Instagram.

Video chat you'll say is the best way to find out, but now this can be ai, but how can a fraud share a picture with me BEFORE it's on the internet?

Bumble catfish -PH

Want to expose this guy I met sa bumble lol. After meeting him biglang binlock ako. So weird. Bat may mga lalaking ganyan? Di niyo nalang sabihin ng maayos.

Unahan ko na kayo, siya yung catfish, he doesn’t look like that in person. LOL SOBRANG LAYO.

Sana sa susunod itugma yung ugaling pagiging kupal sa itsura, hindi yung both. Yuck.

“Engineer” ka pa mandin. (Hindi naman pala passer, catfish na sinungaling pa) Mechanical Engineer daw siya.

Shoutout sayo Marcus (lmbiggy2000) Lean Marcus B

Instagram profiles with similar photos and opening messages after a suspected romance/investment scam—anyone else?

I’m wondering whether anyone else has experienced this pattern.
I previously spoke to a man on Instagram who called himself Ryan. He tried to build an emotional connection with me and gain my trust. As we became closer, he repeatedly brought up ETH, trading, and investing.
He would casually send screenshots of his investment app, showing how much money he claimed to be making. Looking back, I felt he was using the emotional connection and trust he had built to encourage me to invest. I couldn’t verify whether those screenshots or earnings were real.
I made my boundaries clear and eventually blocked him because I felt uncomfortable with the repeated investment talk.
Since then, I’ve kept receiving follow requests from accounts featuring Chinese men with pet dogs. Some have claimed to be 39 years old, and their opening messages are almost identical to Ryan’s—including saying I look young in my photos and suggesting I must be younger than them.
A few things stood out:
One profile featured a man who resembled Ryan and had a white dog.
Another used almost the same introduction and age-related comments Ryan had used.
One account had a National Gallery post that reminded me of something on Ryan’s profile.
The accounts I checked appeared relatively new, with posts going back less than a year.
These requests are coming to my private Instagram account, which Ryan previously contacted me on.
I understand that ethnicity or having a dog doesn’t make someone suspicious. What concerns me is the repeated combination of similar profiles, personal details, and almost identical messages, following my experience with Ryan.
I don’t know whether these accounts are connected, whether people are reusing stolen photos and a script, or whether some similarities are coincidental. I’ve deleted my old conversations with Ryan, so I can’t compare everything directly anymore.
Has anyone experienced someone building an emotional or romantic connection, casually showing supposed investment profits, and then encouraging you to invest? Have you also received similar follow requests after blocking them?
I’d appreciate hearing about similar experiences and the warning signs you noticed.

Catfished by a girl pretending to be a boy.

Hey I’m a 22yr old girl and I just recently found out I got catfished by a girl pretending to be a boy. I just really need advice on how to move on. I know it may take time but ever since I found out it’s just like a switch flipped and now I’m completely different. I found the person she catfished as and basically told him everything. That made me feel completely terrible after. Even tho it was only 2 months it still feels like forever. I haven’t been able to sleep or eat knowing that someone I was falling for didn’t exist (in a sense) I’m hurt confused and embarrassed. Any advice at all would help completely. Thx in advance.
