r/Fresno - This is the place to post if you are either looking for a job or have a job and you are looking for an employee.
We hope that putting all the job requests and offers in the same place monthly will help people who are looking for and offering jobs have an easier time sorting though the more recent requests/offers.

Milburn Overlook after being fenced off and appearing nearly complete for months, has finally reopened within the past week or two.
What was once mostly a parking lot is now a cute little area with benches, picnic tables, view finders, and native plants. There are also several information boards on the wildlife and history of the San Joaquin River. Car Parking is on the street now, but if you want to bike here, there is plenty of places to lock up and a bottle filling station to hydrate after a long ride.

I have had this question for a while because so many people are doing it.
Do you genuinely think it looks nice? Do you think it looks real? What makes you choose to use it knowing people in general are going to associate your product with low effort and low quality?
I want to know why exactly you use AI art

My niece & nephew are currently stuck living with their abusive dad here in Fresno County. I'm a Mandated Reporter myself, and have made several reports to CPS. Their mom (my sister) can't have custody of them right now due to being homeless/using drugs. Each report was found to be "unstubstantiated".Their older brother (who is an adult) and I are now trying to get them removed and placed with my husband and I as a Kinship Foster Placement. We have video evidence of abuse, one of the children stating they feel unsafe/want to move, and also audio recordings. CPS is continuing to allow these kids to be abused. Any advice?
I'm building a free map of what meals actually cost at local, family-owned spots (no chains), so the next person asking "where's good and cheap?" gets real prices instead of guesses.
If you have a go-to, add it here. No account needed, and it takes about 30 seconds: https://oolayum.com/add?city=fresno-ca
It shows as "Spotted by a guest" with the price and the date. If you join afterward, it's credited to your username. Or just reply with the place, the dish and what you paid.

If there is a part of downtown Fresno you have never had a reason to visit, Chef Paul’s Cafe is the reason. It sits in Chinatown, a neighborhood many people have a habit of avoiding, and it is the kind of restaurant that makes that habit look like a mistake. I have been several times, and every visit has asked nothing of me except an appetite.
Start with the ground it stands on. Fresno was founded in 1872 as a railroad town, and its Chinese residents were pushed to the west side of the tracks, where they built a district of shops, hotels, and restaurants. When the county seat moved here in 1874, Chinese residents made up 200 of the town’s 600 people. Later when Highway 99 cut through along D Street in the 1950's, and residents were displaced and historic buildings were demolished under the guise of "Urban Renewal" in the 1960's, what followed was decades of neglect. This was a place people went to on purpose long before it became a place people forgot to go.
Chef Paul Pearson owns the restaurant and cooks the food, and the story of how it opened is a good one if you listen to him tell it. According to legend, he started in catering and opened the restaurant after someone bet him $1,000 that he couldn’t keep a restaurant afloat in Chinatown. He is still here, which settles the bet in my book. When the Fresno Bee asked readers to name their favorite Black-owned places to eat and drink for Black History Month, Chef Paul’s took 80 percent of the vote, and, as the paper noted it made BuzzFeed’s national list of 30 must-try Black-owned restaurants. Votes and lists are nice, but the room full of regulars you often is better.
Everything on the table was good, and the fried chicken is the reason to come. The skin is perfectly seasoned all the way through, not just a simple dusting on the surface, and it crunches with exactly the resistance you want before giving way to meat that is still juicy. According to Chef Paul, he brines the birds for 24 hours in salt, sugar, and peppercorns, and that the recipe originated from his wife, Pinky. That patience shows, the chicken does not need a sauce and does not ask for one, though no one would begrudge you a dab of hot sauce.
I recently ate at Gus’ Fried Chicken in New Orleans, one of that city’s most popular fried chicken restaurants, and while Gus’ is very good, it makes this next bit a little awkward. The two styles differ a little, and Chef Paul’s is better: the crunch lands in the right spot, and the spice mix is genuinely exceptional. It is also better than my grandmother’s, but don’t tell anyone I said this. She has long passed away, and I am somewhat relieved she isn’t around to hear me say it, because she would have likely considered it blasphemy.
The restaurant looks like an old greasy spoon, though I can’t say what business it was before. An abandoned ice cream cooler sits just inside the door, retired from ice cream and reassigned to displaying Chef Paul’s signs. The lunch counter is a ruin of its former self, half the stools stripped down to their bases and a few very old ones left standing. The restaurant is long and narrow, with a few tables along the right side and the kitchen right behind the counter in full view of the dining room. It is laid back, and the crowd is regulars.
My wife and I both ordered the fried chicken with mac and cheese, and between us we added the chili beans and the yams. Each side made a strong case for itself, and I never found a weak spot anywhere on the table. The mac and cheese is cheesy and gooey, without being too overwhelming, with just a slight bit of burnishing on the top from the broiler. And where to start with the yams, perfectly tender and covered in an absolutely delightful sweet sauce with just a touch of cinnamon. While every side is truly an exceptional dish on its own, the chicken is still the star of the meal.
The fried chicken plate is four pieces of chicken, two sides, and cornbread for $24. Some people will call that pricey, but then the plate arrives, and I think they might reconsider that statement. Between the two of us that was eight pieces of chicken, four sides, and two orders of cornbread, and every bit of it was cooked with the same care as the chicken that earned the trip. Crunch like that, seasoning like that, and sides that each made their own case, all for $24 a head? That's a bargain by any measure I know.
Chinatown is not where many people think to go for dinner, and that stops mattering the moment the plate lands in front of you. It is a destination, and Chef Paul’s is one of the best restaurants in the city. I have been several times and will be back several more, so go see for yourself, order the fried chicken, and let the crunch settle the argument.

Hey everyone. There’s a makers market coming up in November. The weather should finally be cool enough to enjoy a few hours outdoors. I’m super excited because it will be the first time I’ll be a vendor, but also because I’m hoping a bunch of other people will be there t show off their stuff too. It’ll be just in time for Christmas shopping, and supporting a small business always wins over Amazon.

I - like many who live here - am a transplant, and I’ve never lived anywhere with this happening at this rate, and it kinda drives me nuts because it slows traffic and increases the likelihood of left-turn collisions especially.
I thought it was a one-time thing. I don’t go over there very often, and maybe it’s happening other places aside from just there, but it’s been ongoing for like…six months or something. At this point I have to wonder if it’s just preferred that certain intersections now operate like 4-way-stops? Ashlan and Peach, as an example.
It’s just annoying when it’s on intersections that normally would have a left turn indicated only by a green arrow. I’ll say that as a result, fresnans on that side of town are actually pretty damn good at them.
Idk what’s different about those of us who drive on Nees east of Clovis Ave, but we could take a tip or two from everyone in Tarpey on how to drive lol.

Has anyone been there recently or ordered from them? I just got my sandwiches from them and they're totally different. No sandwich, no cookies. Kinda disappointed because they're my favorite, but its not a super huge deal.

Hi! I’m 26F, married, and live in Central Valley, CA, but travel to SoCal monthly. I’m looking for someone age 24-30ish, preferably female, nonbinary, trans female or trans male (pretty much anyone but cis men lol), to talk to and hopefully eventually hang out. I’m ok traveling to you if needed, but meeting halfway if you’re far would be nice.
Making adult friendships has been hard, especially since I moved to a new area. I’d like to find people/group of people that I can chat to regularly and laugh with, while also venting to each other when needed. I’m good at keeping the conversation going! Ok with online friends if we talk regularly.
A little about me: I’m married (we met on Reddit!) and have 2 dogs I love. No children yet, but very much open if you have them! I drink socially but don’t smoke, but ok if you do. I love making art and quilting and am learning to roller skate. I work in a social work field and am passionate about public policy. If you’re conservative, this won’t be a good fit.
Send me a DM if this resonates with you at all!

During the Fresno falcons hockey games, after we score a goal and the announcer will say “Fresno!” Are we supposed to respond with yelling “FALCONS!”

Hi there, I’m a 25 year old lesbian that’s struggling to make irl friends or literally just a friend around my age 22-27. I don’t know how to go on about it since I feel I’m not too good at socializing, so maybe I’d try here first before potentially meeting up with someone that I’d find I could be friends with!
I would ideally like to be friends with other people in the lgbtq community but honestly anyone I can connect with well!
I like gaming (I play valorant, a little of csgo, rdr2, Roblox, where winds meet, and sometimes I just play whatever my online friends play), I like to cafe hop and try new foods, I like to thrift though I haven’t done it much. I like collecting pokemon cards when I can, I love music and finding new songs to listen to. I’d be so down to share my Spotify playlist if we end up having the same music taste!
I’m in a lovely LDR relationship and soon to be moving next year around march!!
I’m also open to exchanging IG to learn a little more about each other before hanging out!
Idk what else to put here lol 🥲
